The difference is this time they have the eye candy. rFactor and GTR2 when modded can looks good but not as good as GT. Assetto Corsa will have better graphics, better phisics, a smart car selection (I much prefer 30 cars I'm looking forward to drive instead of 1000 random cars, then modding and DLC will come). It won't effect GT sales but who cares, I'm not related with Kunos business, the important is it will effect my enjoyment. That's what really matter!

The success of this game is going to depened greatly on what they do with online. It can have the best physics and graphics ever, but if there is no one to race with it doesnt much matter. If they put some effort into making the online a clean competitive place to race, it could be huge. If its like most pc games, where online is almost none existient because of the lack of effort by devs to produce a online community it will sell as most pc racers do. If they can pull off an iracing type online this game will be huge. Iracings physics arent that great, but the organised racing is top notch and why its as popular as it is.

I guess I mean succesful in a console game sales kinda way. They have the potential I believe to sell millions of copies if its done right. More people than ever are atleast thinking of switching to pc gaming. If the online was put together with championships and leaderboards in mind, along with clean racing, it could draw alot of people.

It doesn't really need to be successful on that level though. I forget how many people they had on the team, but it was low. Something like 12 from memory? They can probably be very, very successful by selling 100,000 copies.

Kunos doesn't need to compete with Polyphony and T10, in my opinion. They just need to do well enough to actually continue their franchise.

Oh...

I would expect Kunos to have decent online multiplayer, as NetKar Pro also from Kunos is still operating online.
I have had a lot of fun and very clean racing, there is always someone online, nice way to wait for AC.
PC driving simulation will always be a little more of a specialty compare to Console. The commitment and expense are different, but so is the reward.

Yeah, because their consoles are 7 years old, I was one of those switchers (in 2011). The new consoles will see quite a few people reconsidering that switch or possibly even switching back... I'm not really sure what this has to do with the topic though, apologies.

Indie games typically do very well with nowhere near the sales volumes of a AAA release, and Kunos know their projected sales and have budgeted accordingly. Personally I think they'll do astoundingly well if AC is playable with a 360 controller simply because it will be the only proper sim to be released on Steam since Race 07. That counts for a lot in my opinion.

Judging by the tech demo, AC certainly won't be better looking than GT. It isn't even close now, so why would that change entirely.

It doesn't have to be either. It's already such a big improvement over most sims that I'm sure people will be happy with it. The only thing I hope they improve though is clarity. The graphics in AC are nice but not very sharp. I hope they improve that. Same with pCars. SMS games are always blurry

That is your opinion and I beg to differ.
And, isn't that sharp enough? Doesn't looks blurry to me.

Thanks for the links...
hmm, since you're Italian... mind giving us a better translation when you have time?

Cheers

"Version 1.0 of Assetto Corsa will include several cars as Abarth 500 SS, BMW 1M, BMW M3, BMW Z4, Ferrari 458 Italy, Ferrari F40, Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione, Ferrari P4 / 5 Competizione, KTM X-Bow R, Lotus Elan, Lotus Evora, Lotus Elise, Lotus Exige, Lotus 49, McLaren MP4-12C, Pagani Zonda R, Pagani Huayra and Tatuus FA01."

That is a ridiculously sweet line up. The only thing I could ask for would be a touring car of some kind and something Japanese, but given where they're located and their budget I imagine that stuff will have to wait. I reckon if they make the game configurable to suit a wide range of people it'll sell like the hottest of hot cakes on Steam...

Oh of course, if AC incorporates Steam Workshop for modding alongside some good tools (like that thing where you enter some parameters for the car and it generates the physics itself, or whatever it was), it'll be a really tough act to follow. It'll be interesting how it deals with modding and DLC though; will they block mods that contain DLC cars or trust that they can make the cars of a high enough standard to be worth paying for?

What if they deliberately gimp the mod tools to make DLC cars more attractive? Oh god.

Maybe Kunos' just going to charge for the tools to mod new cars into the game. Easy solution for them - and I'd think it'd be worth paying for (if you're good at modding). A win - win situation, in my opinion.

But wouldn't that mean if someone made a car they wanted to use in DLC and it turned out to be really, really good, they'd make the money from that charge just once but it could be downloaded an infinite number of times for free? It'll be interesting to see how it pans out anyway, I'm sure there were mods for Race 07 that contained cars also available in the DLC that weren't restricted or anything. Personally if AC turns out to be as good as it looks I'm probably going to hoover up everything they release regardless of whether I've already got it as a mod or not.

Oh, I just thought; they could make odd bundles of cars as DLC so that even if you had, say, an R32 GT-R that is part of the bundle, you'd buy it anyway because a) the mod was free so it's not as if you're wasting that money and b) there are other, more exotic cars in the bundle to make it worthwhile. It seems like quite an obvious way of doing it without creating a PR disaster.

Dang, I didn't think of that :embarrassed: Well, instead of creating DLC themselves, they could sell fan-made mods. Just real cheap. I guess. They could also allow mods just like that and rely on the goodwill of their audience in order to sell DLC. I don't really know, but I'd hate to see the game without any sort of mod-support just to help DLC sales :indiff:

I'm sure that won't happen, I reckon Kunos knows that to get the longevity a lot of other sims enjoy they need mod support, but to keep it profitable (without the subscription thing iRacing and rFactor 2 have) throughout that lifespan they need the DLC. It's just how they deal with the overlap where a mod includes a car they want to sell that matters, will they remove it from Steam Workshop or just let it live alongside their (probably higher fidelity) version? Who knows.

Isn't it just the same situation as Race 07 with the DLC's and mods? I don't think it will be much of a problem judging by how successful Race 07 seemed.

Yeah, but not everyone approaches it the same way, you hear about some games being closed off to modding (like Battlefield 3 was, actually) to protect the DLC.

Wasn't the DLC just going to be free anyways?

I managed to miss this post, I (evidently) hadn't heard that. I'll be quiet now!

I'm not sure, I thought I read that somewhere but can't (haven't really looked) find a source.

Good point. I think removing it will piss modders off, if modders are well known in the comunity Kunos risk a comunity backlash which is the opposite of what they want. As long as no copyright infringement are issued by third parties, I think they'll give people all the freedom needed.

Kunos can always say what cars they intend to release in the future so modders just wanting to add the car for the sake of it and not for the sake of self advertisement will not start the project.

Personally, I have no problem using 2 different models of the same car I already did that in rF.
