don't have a holy grail of an answer but sympathise with the situation... if it did happen, and it may down the track, would start to eliminate potential clashes in some form of order, like...
round-up of key AC stakeholders
- AC (game & updates)
- CM (GUI database & updates)
- Mods (tracks, cars, other - like python apps, skin-texture related updates)
- SOL
- CSP
- PC (O/S and other APP perpetual/relevant updates)
- PC hardware peripherals (wheel, pedals etc) and software updates
- 3rd party APP software (relevant to AC and other games)
when you think about it - there's a lot to consider if something were to go horribly wrong - where to start - and the list of concerns start to feel overwhelming - to say the least... some experience on these issues can be detrimental to the point of re-installing from scratch - but beforehand do some tweaking, restart the OS if need to so settings are actively hardcoded (in use), as opposed to thinking that changes have been affected by overwriting...
AC - if some mod-sounds are present (in your case YES), then skip having to check AC integrity (for now)...
CM - if auto-update is active, then review what updates have taken place (correlation to sound probs if any)... if CM felt corrupted or not right I'd do a new install (doesn't take long)
MODS - this is tricky cause potentially any Mod can have an unintentional clash with your existing operational structure... maybe uninstalling the last few, rebooting and test if all works... replacing any removed mods is easier and less time consuming to do...
SOL - reinstalling fresh (use the new uninstall_bat file to have all related file removed beforehand, reboot and then do a fresh install)
CSP - similar actions to SOL but best managed via CM, rollback a version or so, restart CM (alternatively, download the file and install manually)
PC - when prompted to update - create a restore-point beforehand (windows). other OS may have similar features. setup your OS to prompt before updating and not the other way around...
PC peripherals - same actions as PC
3rd party software - user would know best what may be happening here (update, remove, reinstall)
like mentioned earlier - this is not a definitive fix - but more of a guide (user beware before applying any of the above methods to restore your AC and related apps)
please feel free to add/remove other procedural steps as this may come in handy for all to use...
cheers
@RenaultDJRTP - please explain how you overcame the sound issue - thanks.
edit: almost forgot... the biggest killer of ALL is a
power outage incident... OS has evolved over time and has a backup way of fixing itself, but the rest of the software, the code would likely be corrupt and may look like a spaghetti bowl.
reminder:
backup,
backup your valuables...
