Thanks for helping, but it did not work.
I deleted the track, re-downloaded and installed, altered the china_2019.ini as suggested... no luck. :indiff:
I even reverted from the shaders patch 0.1.25-preview74 to preview 49. But while CM said it was done succesfully, I got a black section on the horizon (while I now have a white one), there were visible stars (at noon) and there was a constant flickering.
So back to preview74 (which is OK on all tracks I tried) except China.

Insert this one into china_2019.ini:

; configuration file for china_2019

[LIGHTING]
LIT_MULT = 1

[MATERIAL_ADJUSTMENT_1]
MATERIALS = sha_skyline_01
BLEND_MODE = ALPHA_TEST
ACTIVE = 1

Thanks mate, works like a charm :cheers:

Not distracted by the horizon glitch, I noticed this:

Reported it to the author.

Would someone post some track pictures with the sun in the background in the mid to late morning using SOL? For me Kunos looks realistic and SOL looks like I'm viewing the sun from another planet. I want SOL to work for me so badly :banghead:

Here's a couple of mine taken at the same time with the same settings with sadders.

Here is Kunos. Looking pretty realistic. :cheers:

Here is Sol. Um...:crazy:

upload_2019-5-15_16-50-24.jpeg

Let's try another one...

Kunos. Looks good just a little brighter would be perfect just like looking directly at the sun at 7:30Am in real life.

I totally agree. My sun doesn't look right either, and I think it has something to do with AE (auto exposure). Looking directly at the sun, it's as if Sol is decreasing the camera exposure so much, that you end up with a sun that looks like a little yellow planet (which is accurate, since the sun is about the size of a pea held at arm's length). But there's no glare! It looks terrible, and even after fiddling with the AE settings, the sun still doesn't look right.

Does everyone have the same issue?

Thank god I am not alone!

These are shot with 10 minute increments, last one +30 minutes. I don't get that above. Its the same in car.

Here is a better example as I'm in the same exact position.

7:11AM & PP Filter set to default for both pictures

No Sol and weather set to clear

upload_2019-5-15_21-5-55.jpeg

Sol and weather set to No clouds (Sol)

upload_2019-5-15_21-8-23.jpeg

Sol and time changed to 5:45AM to try and reproduce the height of the sun at least as in the first picture since I'm really trying to compare the sun's appearance and not position.

If you have issues with vanilla SOL you have to understand:

1) It is still in constant development as new shader patch features are implemented and Peter includes new algorithms and features for SOL the look and image adjustments of SOL are currently still changing quite drastically from build to build

2) SOL has EXTENSIVE settings and tuning possibilities both within its config files and (more recommended) within its in session apps

For starters the two major settings I would look into with your issue is to look at:

- play with AE settings or even decide to completely disable AE and use exposure settings as they work in vanilla AC (this should get you a long way into the direction you want)
- play with sun size parameter and glare parameters to fine tune the look

With any build of SOL from the early closed beta to the latest alpha you actually can get the exact same sun glare look you like from vanilla Kunos AC.
Currently It just takes a lot of tinkering with settings if that is the look you want.

I would not wait and hope that Peter is going to address this any time soon as both he and Ilja and the guys are VERY busy constantly working on NEW features to add to both CSP and SOL hence It will likely take some time (read months +) to achieve a more settled status where fine tuning will begin and different looks may be introduced.

ALSO: both the CSP as well as SOL was always designed from the beginning to allow for full support of third party PPfilter support, so you can absolutely build your own PPFilter that will exactly render the sun as YOU like and safely use that ;-)
That is the beauty of the CSP and SOL ;-)

If you find that running AC without SOL entirely you sadly will miss a TON of amazing features it has to offer. It is akin to cutting off both your legs just so you are assured to always get a seat on the bus.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated.

I will get to tinkering with the AE settings and sun size/glare parameters and hope to report back with positive results.

I was constantly fiddling with the pp filter before Sol was released and had the sun and color temperatures per time of day dialed in perfectly. I was hoping to create something on my own where the color temperature automatically changed with the time of day.

Frankly, I’d prefer that they nail now very basic things like how the sun appears, prior to piling on yet more features in an equally half-baked state.

I couldn't help noticing that in your post you only stated it "should be" possible to make the sun look correct. Have you actually managed to do it? If so, how?

Because I've tried every single permutation of AE and glare settings - to no avail. And if you look at others' screenshots, you'll see the same thing in all of them: The sun looks like a slightly luminous exoplanet.

Here's the really odd thing. Going back into my screenshots, I found this pic from 2/21/2019. This is pretty much how I'd like the sun to appear. But I can't reproduce this now:

And a reasonably similar time-of-day/weather shot from the latest build:

I wonder if they changed something after Sol 1.0 and introduced a bug of some kind. In particular, I've noticed that disabling AE seems to have no effect re: sun glare, which doesn't make sense. I'll keep playing with it and hoping that 1.2 (once released) rectifies the issue. Looking at my screenshots from Jan-Feb 2019, I really miss how the game looked then!

fantastic mod for day and night, too bad that in multiplyer it has many problems because between a session and the other goes mad and it takes a lot to synchronize, what do you plan one hour for the start of a session and he puts one at random , there is still a lot of work to be done on this front

Yes, my sun looks exactly like I see it in the morning off my sun deck.
Here is a quick series what a sunrise looks like at the FM7 Le Mans track - it looks EXACTLY like I remember it from being at Le Mans a couple of years in a row (not sure about the position though, it may be that the track needs adjustments or not - I didn't check for that).

The best way to get a good setup really is to start at full vanilla AC, install the CSP, crank up all settings, install vanilla SOL and then one setting at a time move towards improving settings as you go.

If you have any issues with a certain look or effect the SOL discord of Peter Boese is an excellent place to ask for help.
I found very few people who were able to get to what THEY want by just replicating teh PPfilter file or even individual settings as the combination of AC video settings, CSP settings, PPfilter settings and SOL settings in combination with monitors / VR and related settings used provides just way too much possibilities to make this an easy plug and play thing. For the same reason it is nearly impossible for Peter to come up with ONE setup that works for ALL people equally well (this is the reason why SOL is so extremely flexible by design to set up with a myriad of options).

I forgot to mention - please don't feel offended if this is obvious but I mention it as it happened to myself one time too often ;-) - when you install CSP and SOL updates you MUST keep the proper sequence of installation as SOL needs to overwrite a couple of files from the CSP installation in order to work properly (you always need to 1) install CSP 2) install SOL OVER CSP).

Theres a TON more than just day and night. Dude, you need to understand, this is an evolving game changer thats being worked on hour after hour every day. If you were at the shaders or SOL discord you would see.

Don't be such a whiner, this is hundreds and hundreds of hours on the table, for you to take for free and enjoy.
