They did an insane job on this layout. All the little details put in to this circuit - amazing. The number of different trees, the grass.. all 7 layouts. You could spend days on this circuit and not get bored. I would like to go on record as saying that whoever thought up the turn Hog Pen is owed one punch to the throat by me. I have gone flying off the track too many times there. I'm starting to lose my mind. :irked:  The corner isn't even anything special, but it's off camber and it's a little invisible on the approach..then my car just sails off the back edge. Corvette, F40, Lotus Evora GTE, Lotus 2 Eleven, Lamborghini Gallardo -- they have all gone flying off at Hog Pen. :banghead: 🤬

What's the story with the exe's?

One puts in the Oak tree. Two makes the Go Kart track raceable. Three makes a race layout using the infield. Four is a Freeride layout where you start from the Hotel. Each one needs passwords which can be found on flyers around the track (each .exe gives you a hint as to where it is. For example for the Oak tree you need to find Trackside flyer #1 (Hint: Back to my Roots)). I've only done the Oak Tree one because it's an easy one to find.

:D it even got easter eggs! I saw a screen of the oak tree and it looks like the tyre wall goes over the apex of the curb?:

Or can you clip the curb fine?

I just checked, and rather strangely, it's not a solid object, you just go straight through it. :odd:

I think this was brought up on Race Department's official VIR thread. Supposedly, the tires were actually that close to the curbing at one point. I believe there is a real photo of the tires and curb posted in that thread to show how it looked.

Indeed that's where i got it from, if you compare those shots you'll see the real version has the tyre walls more rounded of. I went to RD and posted the same there :)

Drove the full version of VIR in several cars last night and have to agree it's an excellent mod. With several layouts there is a lot there to explore. Great job by the modders.

Amazing job. The freakin' detail they put into it. You could almost say it's overkill, but somehow it seems like they've got the track pretty well optimized. I haven't heard any complaints about poor performance yet. All those different layouts just ensures that you can spend days and days on VIR alone, if you just change up vehicle classes. Before I die I would love to drive the Full layout.

EDIT: Has anyone done the "Freeride" layout yet? You start off in the driveway of a condominium and have to drive to the track! Crazy...

I saw it posted yesterday, but I skipped it. Frankly, the car bores me looks wise. Several little, not so powerful cars rest in my AC garage, so it's not like I'm against those types of cars or anything. That particular car just doesn't interest me in the slightest.
If the FFB and physics are good this is ideal for club races though :)

Glad you are enjoying VIR fellas :)

The tree has to non collidable to avoid issues online in the case that some people might have it and some not.
Outstanding work dazzy, i think it looks better than the AMS version which is official content. You guys spend 2 years on this little masterpiece no?

Enjoying? That's an understatement. I haven't been this hooked on a track since I first got to experience the Nordschleife in GT6. VIR is a sick track. Deceptively difficult. The spots you think you can relax are the spots that actually demand the most attention. I love that in a track. Plus, with the multitude of layouts, there are different challenges to battle...Simply outstanding for people to create something this wonderful in their part time - this is indistinguishable from any Kunos track and in many ways much better (the surroundings). Thank you, so much, for the hard work you guys put into this project.

P.S. Whoever came up with the idea to have you start off from the driveway of that condo complex for one stage -- brilliant decision. That was genius. 👍

Which layout was that again? So far I spend two nights on the full course alone.

Truth. It's rather stunning and easily the best quality mod track I've ever seen in AC (IMO).

I think it might be one of the easter eggs?

Yes. You need to have it "unlocked" by entering one of those codes into one of the .exe file Easter Eggs. I think it might be "Freeride". The only thing I'm 100% certain of, it is not one of the seven base layouts that come from the free download of the circuit. So, as you start trying the unlocked Easter Eggs you'll clearly know because you literally start off like a 1/4 mile or more from the Full Track. It might be "The Villas" where the apartment/condominium is located. I believe when you exit the parking area of your housing you are then on Pine Tree Road, so you can take either a right or a left, depending on which part of the track you want to drive to. It was such a crazy idea, in my opinion, to include it in this huge layout but they pulled it all off so expertly. There haven't been any complaints about VIR causing poor performance, at least none that I've seen.

Yessss!!! Another one of my favourite tracks after discovering it for the first time in GT6. Great test track with lots of corner types and elevation. Good scenery too, since it's supposed to be a "premium" private track. There is an rFactor version but the proportions are completely wrong, so good to know they are starting from scratch on this one.

Looking forward to try beating the Stig's laptime in the Lotus :mischievous:

I have never tried it actually as i skipped GT6. It's not that far from here (200 km's away), but i'm not rich enough to be invited and my Volvo would look out of place there.

My uncle does promo events and test runs for BMW so he's driving around there quite often. Should get to know him better really :D

Ascari? That is wonderful news. When I first started playing GT6 I didn't like it at all. I think maybe it had something to do with that stupid license test or whatever it was, where you take a fat pig Veyron around the track. That freakin' chicane in the beginning. I must have invalidated my lap 50+ times right there. In time, I started to really enjoy it. Then I fell in love! :D

I finally found time to try some of the top recent tracks, like Tor Poznan and VIR. Both of them are superb additions to the track roster.

The environment around the track in VIR looks a little "empty" at first sight, and coming from only having driven it on the iRacing laser scan before a few things seemed slightly different, but once you get stuck in to lapping it's superb.

Tor Poznan is laser scanned and it shows: The cambers all just feel so logical and the surface imperfections on some corners make life interesting. I raced the MX-5 cup cars around it and loved every minute.
