When obligued by circumstances I retired my yearned Seat Ibiza TDI 110cv, the odometer showed 390.000 glorious kilometers, during which it hardly had any repairs apart from the usual maintenance.

The interior trim groaned like a pirate ship, the heating didn't work well and every time I fully accelerated, several polar bears died and Greta felt a disturbance in The Force, but the engine kept starting at first try, worked like a clock, ran like a devil and barely consumed fuel...

I have the feeling that it would have lasted another 400.000, at least...

just paid a month subscription. the 850 mod is ok to look at, not very good to drive. ide prefer it being manual instead of crappy paddle shift, as it was manually operated sequential, not finger paddle shifts
you must be driving a different car to me then, my version doesnt have any paddles at all it has a sequential shifter in both, i must be missing the point, it wouldnt be the first time

Those old hand built air cooled Porsches are quite durable too. Very simple cars actually.

We had a local jeweller who had the same MB 300 since he bought it new in the 70's, used it as his daily driver until he passed away a few years ago. That one passed 1 million kms in the late 90's.

I have thought the same about the gearbox, and as a Volvo-nut I'm looking into tweaking the gearbox and other stuff to make it more authentic. I think most of the physics come from the PM3DM Volvo S40, with adjusted gearbox, wheelbase, centre of gravity etc., so that should be ok. I have been playing with both the gearbox, the aero and the cg, can share it with you when I feel it's good?

@maximeerkat It's the autoblip and autoclutch that kind of breaks the period correct immersion of an extremely hard shifting mechanical, sequential gearbox. Not the biggest deal, and can of course be fixed to suit even the most hardcore oldschool drivers here. (Yours truly being one of them.)

i also have a dedicated, working sequential gear stick in the Cyril Cherry mod...

I think 90% of grown Scandinavian men have owned a Volvo estate wagon at some point in life. I have owned a '97 V70 2.0l, which over time was painted in five different shades of blue, because of hard use and cheap repairs. Including my ex hitting a full grown horse with it. But the car was sold as fully functional, with an MOT, and not even rusted through anywhere, when I got rid of it at 350k km.

Try treating a Ford like that, and see if it's still a running car at 350k km... 👍
Volvos are known for their reliabilty, but i was the one unlucky :ill:
I owned a 2.0L V60 D4, his twin-turbo died suprisingly @105k km (i was always treating him good) and i sold him instead of repairing, because my wife saw the "opportunity" finally to switch in compact SUV category ... :grumpy:

I am still sad :(, because if i rank all cars i ever owned, it was overall the best one. V60>CRX, A3, A4, Octavia VRS, 3008gt-l)

It all started to go downhill in 1999 when Ford aquired the company. And even steeper downhill when it ended up in Chinese hands in 2010...

410.000 kms did my old and poorly treated 206 1.9D, with a yearly mantainance cost that would be logic in case of being a Delta HF Integrale... Thank Goat it died. I'm the happiest person on the earth with my brand new 106 1.6 rallye, a whole life to come for him.

Can anyone suggest what I might try to lighten up the dark windscreen on this '58 Cooper T43 (f1_1958_cooper_t43 / f1_1958_cooper_t43_bop_1)? I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated!

Try adding this to extconfig.ini
Write the windscreen mesh after "Meshes ="
Adjust "BrightnessAdjustment =" value

[INCLUDE: common/materials_glass.ini]
[Material_Glass] ; front
Meshes =
IOR = 1.5 ; index of refraction for glass, usualy, 1.5
FilmIOR = 0.42 ; redefine IOR for external film layer to increase reflections
ThicknessMult = 3.05 ; thicker glass passes less light through
ProfileFix = 0.00 ; adds thickness to glass for glazing angles
BrightnessAdjustment = 0.05

Looks pretty good! Cant wait until it gets to version 1.0!

One thing I noticed right away was the moving racing line.
You can probably see it on the photo.

@Rodger Davies @Quark67 @racinjoe013 Many thanks to you guys. That solved it. Turns out ThicknessMult for the inside of the windscreen was the key. At 0.0, you end up with a light tint:

...and at -0.5, you get completely clear:

...either of which works well. Thanks again!

Does anyone happen to have Gilles Villeneuve Ferrari helmet (file helmet_1985.dds) that I could use in my 1982 F1 season? Fixing the SD cars as we speak.

HungaroringACC

My version of the ts_hungaroringACCv03 track made to look the way I prefer. There are two versions you can try so please don't skip reading the rest of this post. Both are standalone versions so they won't mess with the original tracks and can easily be deleted if you don't care for my changes.

rj_hungaroringACC: My version of the ts_hungaroringACCv03 track with too many changes to describe. I would suggest starting with this track to make sure you like the changes. If you do then I would delete this and download the track below.

Link: rj_hungaroringACC

rj_hungaroring: A standalone version of Fenryr's fn_hungaroring v1.3 track made to look like the above rj_hungaroringACC track. Fenryr's version is far superior to what I did with the separate GT and F1 layouts, the compatibility with Pyyer's F1 extensions and other numerous improvements he made. I would highly suggest you use this version instead of mine, but that's your choice.

Now for the confusing part and I hope language barriers don't make this hard to understand. The changes I made to the rj_hungaroring track kind of messed up Pyyer's F1 extensions. If you want to use the F1 extensions from Pyyer, I included the changed files needed in order for them too work properly. First you will want to install Pyyer's extensions into the rj_hungaroring track folder. Then extract all the files in the 'Files_for_Pyyer_F1_mods' folder from the download package and overwrite when it asks.

Link: rj_hungaroring

Credits:
Original track: Tom Steel, Junshen Wu and Fenryr. Apologies to anyone else who may have been involved.
Sections file: @Quikslvr
AC_Crew files: @Kurt Woods
Crowd file: @ludwig6666
AI File: Thockard
Additional replay camera and one alternative lighting.ini file: @Gregz0r
Config changes, night lights setup and additional replay cameras: @CrisT86

Track skins:

There are a bunch of track skins you can use or delete if you don't need them. The Grass Dry, Grass Greenish and Grass Lush skins are self explanatory. The Seasonal Trees skin will change the tree textures to give a more seasonal accurate look. I.E., bare in the winter, semi leafless in the late fall, etc. The AC_Crew skins will change the pitlane crew objects to have series specific sponsors.

Notes:

-- As always, any shader value I changed from it's original value gets placed in the Shader Stuff section of the ext_config file. You can edit them to get a look you prefer.

Tracks have been updated to new versions. Use the links in the quote to get the updated version for whichever track variant you use.

I would call these optional updates because nothing about the tracks has changed other than some texture tweaks. I reduced the saturation level on the grass and tree textures and reduced the tree brightness as well. I've been sitting on the changes for a few weeks now and for some reason never got around to making them available. If you are happy with the way the track looks, feel free to skip this.

If you'd like to try it out, first disable any track skins you might have enabled. Then extract the updated files, overwrite when it asks and then re-enable any track skins you were using. If you use the Pyyer extensions for the rj_hungaroring version, you do not need to worry about extracting the contents of the 'Files_for_Pyyer_F1_mods' folder because those are unchanged.

Any chance you can increase the number of grid spots? The last version was also restricted to 30 and it would be nice to have more if possible. But nice quality convert. I presume from ACC because it looks identical?

Not really, as it turned out the Estate had better aero than the sedan..
""""
When Volvo released the T5 variant of their 850, the Swedish automaker wanted to boost its profile in order to gain market share. Instead of a traditional marketing campaign, Volvo took the 850 racing in the British Touring Car Championship.

How the decision to use the 850 estate came about wasn’t intentional though. Volvo commissioned Steffansson Automotive to develop a BTCC prototype, but when they went to collect a body shell only estate variants were left. This news quickly reached the Volvo board, who saw it as a golden opportunity to break the stereotype of only selling estates to middle-aged geography teachers.

As it turned though, the 850 estate’s long roofline actually proved advantageous, with the race car producing more downforce over the sedan equivalent. A longer wheelbase and more glass did equate to increased weight, but being below the minimum meant there was still opportunity to move ballast around.

From when the 850 estate first lined up on the BTCC grid at Thruxton Circuit in April 1994, competitors saw it as more of a marketing exercise than anything else. The Volvo team was undeterred, and as a tongue in cheek measure stuffed a toy Border Collie in the back for a parade lap.

Sadly, the 850 estate only saw competition for the one season, where Volvo placed sixth in the constructors championship. For the 1995 BTCC championship, TOCA altered the rules to permit additional spoilers, but these could not extend past the bumpers or the roofline. Sadly, any advantage the estate had was now gone, so the T5 850 sedan took its place for the next two seasons, where Volvo drivers frequented the podium more often.

OK, what I meant was that you can have a chassis and pop any shell you want on it, now if the chassis is some trick custom made job with no parts from say a Volvo, and you stick a Volvo shell on top...... is it really a Volvo.

Its the beauty of racing I guess pretending 'their car' is racing in the BTCC...... it really isn't.
But we all know that right.

remember to put the correct version number in the ui_track.json and your name, otherwise it may cause confusion.

there are several items or a double-sided item is missing

is this not what your looking for? or are you specifically waiting for Tommy's version?

View attachment 1395768
Tommy's 240 released yesterday, and I must regretfully report that the MSC version still is the best 240 group A mod, despite its various shortcomings. The exterior of Tommy's car is good, but some proportions seem a bit off. The headlights seem to have the wrong size and a couple of other things. The interior seems to have been made in one single lunch break, with boxy details, poor texturing and wrong dimensions. Too bad, because when looking at his old mods like the Audi V8 DTM, I know he can do much, much better.
