I can't believe how much I love this track! You can't really see it in the video, but there are some really crazy blind crests with quick, sharp turns. It's already become one of my favorites. đź‘Ť

What track is it?

Finally got around to test that Joux Plane track mod.

So this is not 100% accurate to its real life counterpart (I don't live far from there) : it's shortened, although some sections are the real deal), but still a lot of fun !

The comparison is not really fair, a GT3 car is plenty different from a tuned road car.
Oh, I knew they were completely different cars with way different specs...but can you honestly tell me you think that Gr.4 GT-R sounds good? I don't think it's very good at all. :indiff:

GTS / AC / Pcars Nurburgring comparison on PS4 Pro. The audio switches between each every 30 seconds.

Oh and before anyone comments, a fast lap was not the objective, and I suck at the ring.

Another nice video. From my first day with Assetto Corsa I was disappointed with the sound of this car. It's certainly not one of their finest sounding cars, that's for sure. I don't know if Project Cars overdoes it...but at least their car sounds like a race car. Once again, I think the sound of the GTSport car is utterly poor.

You haven't really given us your impressions of GTSport, @Scaff. I know Europeans haven't had as much time on the beta platform as Americans, but I'm guessing you must have some opinions formed by now. Should I expect a future video to lay out your thoughts regarding GTSport? I'm a patient man. :D Oh, and if you feel like doing more of these, please do...I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes 'em.

I am saving my overall impression of GTS for now, my opinions certainly are forming, but I want to give it a fair go to be as sure as I can. Expect a 5 things I like and five things I don't video for that one.

As for the track and car comparisons, I intend to try and do them as much as I can. I have a Willow Springs one coming up as well. Car's not the same, but its in the right class and the PTW ratio is similar. That one should be ready either tonight or early tomorrow.

It's not bad. The sample fits the car (GT-Rs don't sound particularly epic in real life with a stock exhaust). If it's the transmission whine that annoys you, straight cut gears will whine like this in real life (although it may seem strange to fit this to a Gr.4 car, but then if the transmission is fully adjustable it's how it should sound). Sometimes you even barely hear the engine - and that's straight piped race engines. The pending issues with GT sounds are more on the rendering side, mostly the doppler effect (here it sounds like the car is indoor) but they can correct this, and the lack of "texture" - which other videos with other cars show a step in the right direction has been made, even if there's still some work. The GT-R doesn't really pop and bang and whistle in real life though, so that's not the best car to put GT's engine sound to test IMO, the in-game version really just lacks a bit of growl at gear changes.
GT has a strong point on smoothness : transitions are very natural, you don't have this feeling that the game switched to another line code when you lift the throttle or change gears. Sadly it's also too flat.

Meanwhile, AC is pretty good on doppler effects but very inequal among the car samples. Some are very good, some feel very synthetic, and some are completely off. The transitions often feel un-natural as well, very rough, chopped (although some cars don't suffer from this). Sure, it's loud, it pops a lot, cars sound spectacular (even too much sometimes, eg. the NA Miata soundind like a straight piped car, even mine with an aftermarket exhaust sounds far from this, and it was even further when exhaust was stock). I can understand why people like this and think this is better. But with most cars in AC, the gears changes, throttle lifts and stuff like that definitely remind me this is a video game. Strangely, the game sounds generally much better in cockpit view than any view outside the car. For example, that GT3 Nissan sounds nice as long as you're in cockpit view, but on the replay view ? It's off, over-pitched and saturated. The texture is there, the growl on decel is similar to what you'd hear in real life, but feels kinda forced.

In the end, I wouldn't say GT Sport sounds are better, neither worse. There are both strong and weak points over other games in that regard. Doppler effect issues can be patched before the full release or even during the beta (that's considering they actually get their priorities sorted and become effective), texture will probably be a bit more difficult to do without compromising the smoothness (which it seems they don't want to sacrifice). But people really just expect engines to be outrageously loud, and will complain if it doesn't rip their eardrums off. Anyway, for me, GT sounds can stay the way they are if I can have improved physics instead.

@ALB123 @Scaff Would have been nice to include a real life reference for audio comparisons though :

GT Sport ends up being the closest to real life, both in terms of sample and feel. The Assetto sample sounds like a road car BMW. And Project Cars makes no sense. The damn thing sounds like a Nascar, not like a Z4 GT3.

I can't say that I agree with you on all of your points, but I will agree that Assetto Corsa has an incredibly uneven range of car sounds from Incredible to Good to OMG Awful. I tried to see if there was a pattern. At first I thought it was maybe their earlier cars that sounded bad....but that's not necessarily true. Some of the early cars sound pretty good. I will take your word about the Miata sounds since you own one. You would clearly know much better than I.

I think AC does a very good job, overall, with the layering of sounds. Exhaust note, transmission whine and/or turbo whine, suspension clangs and bangs and tires. I only drive in cockpit view, so I can't offer an opinion on any other views -- except regular replay view which I think usually sounds pretty darn good. Looking over my first comment, I forgot to write a very important thought I had when commenting on the Project Cars sound.. I meant to say, "at least it sounds like a race car -- unfortunately, just not the right one".

There certainly is time for sound adjustments and even outright changes in GTSport, so you're right...the final product may sound different than the cars in the beta. I wouldn't expect it to be night and day different, however, that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I don't expect a revolution at GT Sport full release either, but it's definitely a work in progress.

I also agree Assetto does a very good job overall on the sound effects around the car (gravel, squeaks, etc.). Transmission, turbo and exhaust are part of those things which range from nicely done to awful. For the Miata, it's mainly the exhaust sound they've ruined. The cockpit view is okay, but watching the replays, the thing screams "HEY LOOKIT I'M A RACE CAR !", kinda like a kid would shout "hey I'm a T-Rex" at you.

First time sharing a race video here, but this was a nice exchange for 1st place on Assetto Corsa PS4 online.
