I just got Automation, and I'm enjoying it so far. However, there's one problem I have with the game right now. I may sound like an idiot for saying this, but every time I make an engine, it produces an abysmally low amount of power (around 50 HP) and the engines have 0.0 reliability. I know I'm doing something wrong, what is it?

If you're on the latest version, when you build the engine go to the end to test it and when you go back to make adjustments the stats will change as you adjust everything to see what's wrong with the engine.

For me my engines usually have really low power if they have too high a compression or the wrong fuel mixture for the fuel type.

Thought I would make a car again on Automation and here it is, Tried my hand at a Small RWD Sports Kei car with all dimensions and engine size being in correct size:

Alot of kei cars these days can get over 100nm of torque which is incredibly hard to get and stay reliable proving how well engineered they are made these days.

Not sure how it compares to other Kei cars but 205km/h top speed and 0 to 100km/h in 10 seconds seems to be really high up there:

The back makes me think of an Alfa 4C.

yeah, they should allow the option for one exhaust exit though, 2 pipes on a Kei car is a bit ridiculous.
There is.

When you click on the exhaust, there's a button that says "x2" on it. That will change it to one exhaust.

Speaking of Automation, the open beta for the Unreal Engine version is said to begin May 29. I can't wait.

For those unaware of how to enter the open beta, on your games tab, right click on Automation, and then click options. The last tab allows you to opt in to the beta.

I made a race version of my kei car pushing the limits of the 660cc engine whilst keeping it reliable(over a 60 score which should be more then enough for endurance racing) and I didn't even change any of the internals, I also added a wing and underfloor downforce, stripped the interior clean gave it a 7 speed Double clutch and some increased cooling with extra vents with some Night time lights for night racing:

Been playing a lot of the UE4 beta recently. My life has been changed with the realisation that fuel caps can double as pop-up headlights (okay, they're a bit wonky, but still)

Decided to make a luxury car from 1955. Gave me a chance to mess around with chrome bumper bars as extra decoration as well. Tempted to post this on the official forums or steam community forums to maybe see what the devs think of it, because whilst its tastefulness is very subjective I'm still proud of how ridiculous it looks.

I also decided to make a tongue-in-cheek black and white vintage advertisement for it as well. I know it's not perfect and probably not the style for newspaper ads at the time, but still.

Reminds me of the tone of my ads for my Zanzibar Lillehammer....which I'll need to recreate again.

My entries to the competition:

50s Family Car Euro Style: (small family car, 50hp I4)

90s Hot Hatch / Fun: (kei car, 64hp I3)

I had a lot of fun with these. They're categories I don't see often so it was nice to design something for them. Killrob said one category has about 7 entries and I suspect it's either 50s or 40s, so fingers crossed I make it into the judging at least.

Some interesting designs here. Wish I had had time to enter more categories. This one would have been fun. Lots of room for creativity.

It's funny how they say that the 40s Luxury cars were too simple, but that's how they were IRL. There really wasn't much you could do back then.

I'm not sure. I think they're mostly not impressed by those who slap on a pre-made grill, some headlights and taillights, and call it a day. Even without adding lots of extraneous or complicated stuff there's room for refinement. If you look at the rear of 40s Buicks and Cadillacs, etc. you'll see that very few taillights are just a simple round bulb. They come in all shapes and sizes and with different chrome surrounds.

Since it was a competition about creativity, I think it's a good idea to take the opportunity to be creative with even the simplest details since that's really all you have to work with.

They brought back a competition from back in the day that I was never a part of. In fact I never participated on the forums until recently. The UE4 beta is just really good.

Here's my entry. I'm quite proud of it. It's meant to be an affordable sport coupe for the European market in 1990.

Got back into Automation after fixing my PC and have made my first semi-decent car

I've been keeping up with this somewhat. I know they just released a light campaign, and I've had ideas buzzing in my head for a long time. Is this worth the $30 price tag?

Honestly, not at the moment. What's in the game is amazing but it's still nowhere near complete. The light campaign is literally just adding the option of facelifting your cars and doesn't actually feature any tycoon stuff just yet. They are planning to add a good bit more in future updates, with the next big update possibly featuring Boxer engines. The car creator has been improved considerably and is very well polished but I don't think it's worth the full price tag just yet.

Thank you. I didn't buy it last time it was on sale because what I knew, even on sale it wasn't a strong enough deal. If it's 33% or more next sale, I'll probably get it then. Have to hold on to my dumb ideas for a bit longer.

That may be what pushes me to buying it sooner.

I do have one more question, how early can the car designs come from? I'm talking like post-war production, depression era, or is it possible to do the horseless carriages of a century ago?

Steam store page says from 1946 onwards, so late/post WW2 designs.

Well...🤬. Makes a bit of sense though, up to the 30's the bodies of cars weren't much more than box sections, some with more rounded edges than others. Does mean no legit deuce or pre-war coupes though, which is a minor let down.
