I recently returned to Automation. My past work has all been deleted since I had to uninstall and reinstall the game. I am now running under the Ellisbury Beta. My previous car, a 3-door hatchback I called the Honest, is no more. I am now making a new 3-door hatchback I call the Phoebe. There is a good amount of things I have to correct about it, but I am hopeful I will make a competent vehicle. I am somewhat basing the Phoebe off of either the Ford Fiesta or the Mazda Mazda3.

[UPDATE] "Ellisbury," not "Ellsbury."

I found out that you have to change the engine placement to longitudal if you want RWD cars. I edited a pickup truck I was working on in Automation to have a longitudal engine placement rather than a transverse placement.

Actually, I am having a bit of a weird trip right now. I been thinking of rather unusual ideas for vehicles right now. Besides my insane ideas, I am planning my first mid-engine car.

I'm surprised there aren't more people playing this. Perhaps most of you are more active on the official Automation forums and discord server?

The devs are currently working on the second major update in a set of three, which will being superchargers and compound turbos to the game. There's lots of other changes in the works including changes to campaign, new art and car bodies, better track simulation, and multiplayer.

Here's the roadmap that they posted in 2023:

I've been working on a car on and off for the past month for their latest community contest, for jet-age cars from the 50s-70s. I have no shot at making the top 20 (there were over 100 entries), but I may as well share it here. It could use some more polish, but I ran out of time.

Cascella unveiled the Limulo concept car at the 1970 Turin Auto Show. The design—a small, wedge-shaped coupé—was penned by Lino Biavati at Carrozzeria Fughelli, and was powered by a V8 engine mounted longitudinally in a mid-engine configuration. The name Limulo is Italian for horseshoe crab, a creature whose odd shape is reflected in the greenhouse of the car. The front and rear of the Limulo feature deep curves that carve through the body, which Biavati attributes both to the influence of nature in his work, and to aerodynamics. In the center of the rear opening, two exhaust pipes are surrounded by an aluminum heatsink, though its functionality is dubious.

At a time when other Italian designers were exploring the crisp, pure forms and “folded paper” aesthetics associated with wedge styling, the Limulo’s organic features were unusual. According to Biavati, some of the inspiration came from his time working with American manufacturers, including the decision to use fiberglass for the body.

That car has major Lancia Stratos/Dome Zero vibes and I love it.

I think the body I used is based on the Stratos. It can be hard to make cars distinct from their base bodies as there's only so much you can do with morphs and body molding unless you want to go all in on 3D fixtures, which can be limiting. It didn't help that the Stratos body is pretty old so it lacks some features like being able to apply fixtures over the wheel wells.
