That looks so badass. I hope they look good up close, too. For me, prepping and painting wheels seems to be a whole day's job, lol.

At least in those two pics the car actually looks smaller because of the dark wheels, or the rims look bigger. Interesting.

Now you need to get that thing to a pro paint detailer in the area. Get that thing looking sharp again. And when it warms up a bit more it'll be time for you to take your seats out and shampoo your carpet and recondition your leather and whatnot. It's old, and it's a lot dirtier than you think.

Or instead just throw that heavy leather crap out and get yourself a Sparco bucket or some other thing like that.

But Vaders are so damn comfortable... man, I'm envious of that car.

^^ Is that you in the avatar, Duke?

Anyway, is that flat or gloss black? Can't really tell from those pics. Look photoshopped. Are they? ;)

I would've left the lip as it was or have it polished, to me it appears the rims are smaller now. The outer lip alone is what gives you the notion of the rim size.
I have the same problem with mine (OEM E46 M3 wheels); because the spokes finish way before the lip, it appears as they're more like 17" than 18" wheels.

Very nice! I didn't think this is what we were talking about... The car just went from Lvl. 7 EVL to Lvl. 9 EVL. Sweet.

I'm undecided. I really want to like them because it does look pretty good, but they do kind of give the impression of some high school kid who got a hold of a nice car and wanted black rims because he thinks they would look sweet.

But then again, I don't really like black wheels unless they actually make a really good match for the car. Maybe they just look like something somebody would put on their car for winter tires.

The actual paint work looks really nice though! 👍

I'm not too fond of the darker color of the wheels, since I prefer wheels that contrast the body color. The only time I like similar toned wheels is when they match the body color, if that makes sense.

Oh, the reactions. Doesn't matter, they will become track day wheels anyhow.

Also, they looked like this before the painting...

You should've went with green for some Barney Hulk action.

Bah. He'd never be able to sell it easily if the rims were green.

Cody, get you some fatter slicks for those things, and then slap some little spacers on there to get some extra track width. It'll help the "stance", too. Roll those fenders and I'd bet 10mm spacers would fit just dandy.

Assuming spacers were actually a good performance solution to begin with, which would be the sturdier option: extended studs with studless spacers, or spacers with studs included?

You realize you won't be able to play with that deck again, don't you?...

:D

Rims look better in daylight, but like I said earlier, it does make them appear smaller than they are.
But it's for TD, so who cares. 👍

Longer studs with studless spacers would be the better bet, since with the studded spacers you have to retorque them every so often so they don't come loose.

We don't have lugs.

We have bolts. Yeah /sunglasses.

Fiddling with the Kidney's right now, so we'll see how that goes. The car will be lowered in a bit, and with spacers I'd be a little concerned about rubbing.

You're fiddling with the kidneys? Sacrilege!!!

Well, not really. Most people do it as you know. I satin-blacked mine and I couldn't be happier.
And since your car already has the black window trim too, it'll look much better, trust me.

Are you getting springs or coilovers for the lowering?
And yeah, I agree with not getting (for now) spacers until you drop it and it settles. Then you see if you want/need them.

Don't paint the Kidneys black. As someone else said, spraying the rims black seems like something a high school kid would do. Matching the kidneys re-enforces that feeling, imo.

Now that I disagree with. The wheels may not look that great, but having the Kidneys be the only chrome on the car doesn't look that great. If the window trim was chrome, then I'd say keep 'em chrome, but since the trim is black, the Kidneys would look better black.

I do think that the rims would look better if there was more black on the car. Right now they don't really go with anything, but having more stuff the same color will help them "fit" with everything else better.

It's like a yellow car. Painting the rims black is cool because they contrast the color well, but they look retarded if nothing else is that color. But get some more black trim, and they look perfectly at home.

I guess those are black. But a black spoiler, some good black tint and make a black front lip might make them feel even more at home. Those particular mods might make the car look awful, but having something else black would help it a bit.

Oh, noes. What Beerz said, basically. Or Buick below

See quote below. All the trim on the car is black, and that is a lot.

You haven't seen the bumper & side trims?
I think it looks awesome :) He just needs to find that lowzzz now.

I like the satin black paint on those wheels. 👍 Painting rims can be done and done right--this is the example. I just hope you used high heat ceramic paint. (I'm sure you did :D) Oh, great idea on the playing cards too. And did you paint the back side?

I did paint the back side. Also, I need to pull the passenger side front wheel off, was getting a bit too dark out and I didn't get the coat on perfectly, but good enough for 10 feet away.

The paint itself isn't a satin black, but a metallic black/gunmetal. You can see the metallic in direct sunlight in person.

Eh, just not my taste with the black paint. Purple doesn't really flow with the black for it to really stand out like it would on Alpine White.

I think you are missing the point. It isn't to make it stand out more, but to rather make it match all the other trim pieces and such.
