I'm just trying out v0.9.3 now. I love that it shows more of what's going on, with loading bars advancing, and extra messages in the log. Great work again Yonis 👍.

The previous couple of versions, I've left running overnight and they get through 10 - 20 races before it hangs. I'll run this overnight now and report tomorrow.

Yonis,

Thanks for the update! I appreciate you taking the time to turn your idea into a project we can all benefit from.

Really, the only things I'd like to see would be something indicating the race event currently running and possibly a lap counter.

I don't know what kind of capabilities a widget potentially has, but would it be possible for it to cache the small race event icons from the event selection screen and display them on the panel? That icon plus a numerical lap display would be enough event information...

EDIT: I had small race image icons linked from the gran-turismo website... Apparently they generate on the fly and get deleted... Oh well.

You won't see the level of your driver change until you go collect the reward. Open the driver page, select the driver, and there is a button to collect the prizes (both Cr and exp).

Looks to me like you are starting races the "normal" way, not through the widget.
-In your PS3, go to community, remote race, and select "server standby mode.
- open the widget and let it do its work :)
- In a few hours, go to your driver page and collect the rewards.

Regrettably, 0.9.3 was pretty much a bust for me. I left 0.9.4 running this AM before leaving for work. Keeping fingers crossed.

With 6 online drivers the Cr reward is quite good really, especially when you don't have to do anything. in regard to the experience, I moved from the beginning of level 38 to half way through this level in about 36h of widget.

Anyone on a Mac get the Yahoo widgets to work? All I get is unicode text and there's nothing to download.

If you want credits, stick BOB in the dreamcar championship with an X1, he'll breeze the 1st 4 races allowing you to skip the 5th. Earns a tadge under £1m in under an hour (can't remember the exact amounts & timing). I'll carry on remote racing for people, but might only do a couple hours a day from now on.

yeah i know!!
i can dream the dreamcar championship by now.

the fact is you have to start races manually,.....and with
remote racing you don't.
with the auto grinder it is still the easiest way so I'll be doing this for a while.
but only till level40

Yes, works fine on my MBP. 👍 Install the Yahoo Widgets app first, then double click the downloaded widget, it will be placed in Yahoo Widgets automatically.

Thats the problem though. When I click on the link to download from here, I get sent to a page with all sorts of symbols and no download starts. All this is doing is bogging down my system because nothing is starting period.

Haven't seen any line errors in 0.9.4, but still getting a SELECTING DRIVERS hang occasionally. Here's the output:

I don't think Yahoo Widgets works at all on my MacBook. I just keep going to a page that freezes my system instead of prompting a download.
Try control/right-clicking the link and save it, or use a different browser to download it.

Everyone else: looking at the event selection problem now.

As I edited literally at the same time you posted, I got it to work through another website.

I am stupid for not thinking about right clicking:ouch::nervous:.

Yonis,

It just doesn't seem to be coincidence that your earliest widget that you distributed privately, other than *very* minor errors, worked pretty much flawlessly.

I've even fallen back once or twice to the original widget you gave me, and it doesn't work near as well as it did when I first got it.

Do you see any indication that PD may be changing things on their end to make automation harder?

Of course, my friends list is much larger now than it used to be... Would the size of my friends list, and consequently the driver pool available, have much affect on the widget's speed or reliability?

I have about 40 GT5 friends... and if each of these guys had 6 drivers that would give your widget 240 drivers to sift through....

do you get error 400's on safari in your mbp? I get it on all of my mac machines, mbp, imac, and mini. I have been running a xp vm in fusion with firefox to do it the manual way.....

on another note, i got a request to add on my remote grind account that only has me as friends....this widget doesnt harvest email accounts or psn's does it?

A good question. I don't think Polyphony has tried to break this thing yet. I think the Widget may be putting a strain on Polyphony's servers as more people use it. More requests are timing out or failing now, and the first version of the Widget had very few facilities to deal with those problems.

I can't. Look at the first post in the thread — the Widget is totally easy to crack open and view the source code of. Plus, I lay out 4 domains in widget.xml:
HTML:
	<security>
 <http name="Gran-Turismo.com: Asia">www.gran-turismo.com</http>
 <http name="Gran-Turismo.com: Europe">eu.gran-turismo.com</http>
 <http name="Gran-Turismo.com: US">us.gran-turismo.com</http>
 <http name="PlayStation Network Sign-In">store.playstation.com</http>
	</security>

I can only use those servers. Any attempt to hit my own server to steal your account info is therefore sandboxed and would fail immediately. Just paste this into the text field in the debug window and you'll see what I mean.

Code:
var test = new URL( ); test.fetch( "http://rickyromero.net/" );

No, but I use Chrome or Firefox. Don't like Safari anymore after last few updates. Do get the occasional 400 in FF though, but only when the servers are really busy.

I think the Widget may be putting a strain on Polyphony's servers as more people use it.
Do you have an indication of how many times your widget has been downloaded?

I can't. Look at the first post in the thread — the Widget is totally easy to crack open and view the source code of.
Which I did, and your widget is completely harmless. 👍

Do you have an indication of how many times your widget has been downloaded?
I'd estimate that there are ≈200-300 users. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when each is hitting the server every 10 seconds or less, that adds up to a lot of traffic.

EDIT: On that note, I'm reducing the status refresh interval from the website's 10 seconds to 20 seconds.

I've just downloaded and installed the widget and must say it's damn impressive, yonis!

It would, however, be awesome to have a "preferred" list of drivers, especially as I'd like to use the Bob's from my main account to facilitate discovering if there is indeed a credit cap. :D

I've thought about this too. I am considering dropping my list of friends to say 20 who truly have been engaged in remote racing. With a tight group of friends who remote race when they can, there's no need to place a strain on the widget. Also, it doesn't seem to me to be beneficial to spread the credits and XP around a large list of friends. Because of the random nature of driver selection, your friends will all start thinking you're a deadbeat who only uses one or two of their drivers a day.

SP

PS Don't drop me. :D
