B-Spec in GT5

B-spec in GT4 was simplistic and flawed. I'd like to see an improved version, but also I'd prefer to see B-spec scrapped rather than see the GT4 B-spec return.

That being said, I think it would be awesome if there was a mod where a player could manage another player. One player races without any artificial HUD except a simple display indicating general directions being given to him by the manager, such as pace, pit, etc. The player playing as manager tells the driver how fast he should be going, suggest when to pit, and also has a lot more information at his disposal (map of track, other racer's positions, etc) which he can feed to the driver with a microphone.

That's similar to an idea that I had except I wasn't thinking of one person managing another per say but instead I was thinking of endurance races where you could have your teamates/codrivers monitoring the race while you were driving and feeding you info and deciding on strategy. Then when your stint is finished, you pit and have the next driver swaps in for you. Then you can monitor the race. Besides the information that you quoted you could monitor pit strategies for the other teams (what tires, how much fuel they added etc.)

In GT4 can't you do that? Change from b-spec to a-spec when you pit? It's been a while... I might be confused on that.

But yeah, it'd be cool. Especially if two players are involved... it'd be kinda like co-op for racing games. One racing, one managing... with the ability to swap positions in between races when players are getting tired of their current roles.

Let's call it a C-Spec. And it is most constructive idea related to GT5 wish in last 6 months.
Thanks.

I was thinking online multiplayer. Say 3-6 player teams for 8-24 hour races. Some guys have been setting up 8hour endurance races in GT5P over at the NA forum. They just run race after race and the last race before a driver switch you run into the pits. I participated in one and it was great fun but it would be so much better if multiplayer was setup so you could do it properly.

There's no point in complaining about a feature you don't have to use.

My point exactly.

Yes you can.

Just found an article explaining Bspec is in GT5 & its more like a team manager type thing which I've noticed other racing games do (grid & juiced) Its a cool idea & personally I kinda like it.
At the same time some people will think that PD should just concentrate on the driving aspect of the game.
Also the idea of a Bspec is good for those that cant spend 24hrs racing but still want to 100% the game or get a specific car linked to that race that you cant buy.
I didnt use Bspec in GT4 but racing for 24 hours was a killer, especially when I got a power cut in the middle of the night.
As I said the idea of Bspec is good because no one does a 24hours race on their own, they have a team mate or 2 to take over so they can rest for a few hours.

I like that new B-Spec mode, it has more depth and kinda makes it a different game, in the game. Sounds like a fantastic addition, good stuff.

👍👍

Thats what I'm gonna use for the 24 hr race. :)

Many rewind haters would beg to differ...

BTW as for Bspec

B-Spec mode lets you choose a driver and 'nurture' them through a career. In any given race, the player can dish out commands to their driver, and he'll react accordingly. Yamauchi explained there were five commands available; slow down, maintain speed, overtake, pit and don't pit. With your commands given, your driver will react in accordance with their endurance meter. Push a driver too hard, or put him through too many races in quick succession and his endurance will drop reducing his performance on the track.

BTW also from that page, one of my pet peeves:

Still, let's just be thankful the game is finally coming out and, for all intensive purposes, the game is finished.

Commands werent b-spec bobs main problem, implementation of them was.

With all the new features b-spec mode could be a excellent management game on its own.

While A-Spec concerns itself with straight-up racing, B-Spec is about managing a team of drivers. Races play out in a "command view" where you can watch one of up to six drivers on your books through a main viewer, keep an eye on tyre wear and relative positions, and issue instructions.

There are several other ways to keep track of your driver's progress. You can go to a full racing view and switch between standard in-game camera angles, and you can switch to a live timing view showing sector times, best and last laps, and the gap between cars.

Every screen shows you your driver's mental and physical endurance levels and whether he's calm or agitated by what's going on. You then issue instructions - to slow down, maintain pace, speed up, attempt to overtake, pit or not pit. Drivers should listen to you, but you need to manage them carefully, because an agitated driver may ignore you.

B-Spec will be awesome, especially if there is dynamic weather. Choosing when to pit and change tyres from slicks to wets or vice versa would be great.

It sounds to me as though the B-spec mode in GT5 is going to be different, compared to that in GT4. The way I understand it is that the GT5 version of B-spec mode will NOT enable one to complete races without having to race themselves, rather it seems as though it will allow the player to manage and hone the skills of their driver/s through a set of races to be completed separately to the A-spec races; I'm sure I remember reading that races can be run in both A- and B-spec modes, but the completion of a race in one mode does not contribute to it's completion in the other. Either that, or the B-spec mode has a completely different set of races compared to those in the A-spec mode; however, I don't think that the B-spec mode in GT5 is intended to make players "lazy" (not that it did in GT4 - it was a great inclusion, for reasons relating to convenience!)
Either way, it's nice to see that there is a counter, which can be found at the top of the screen-shot of the GT Life menu, demonstrating how many races have been completed in each of the two modes! XD

I think that many others' posts above back-up my point... the B-spec mode seems as though it's going to be a section of its own within the game, rather than a section intergrated with the actual racing aspect, hence the introduction of GT Life (as a replacement for the GT Mode); with GT Life you choose whether you want to race yourself (in A-spec mode) or be the director of a racing team (in B-spec mode). Thus, the two modes are two separate entities, and exist separately within the game, unlike in GT4, which means progess in one mode does not affect progress in another.
Apologies, but I think I've repeated myself about 100 times in this post to try and get my point across! XD Sorry, but I'm just way too excited about the release, and so I'm just rambling =)

Im going to spend soooooo much time with this. I love watching the AI race and with so much control now its going to be a blast.

Is ONLINE B-spec confirmed? I think an online B-Spec 24 hour race would be almost as fun as A-Spec

I'm not, my Playstation will do. Sleep and get ahead in GT, work and get money in GT!

Just curious, which games AI do you enjoy watching.

NASCAR 2003. So much fun. Adjust the AI of each driver, pit strategy & speed everything. I and many others have even created fantasy leagues just to watch the AI race. Its for ultimate racing addicts like me. When you need a racing fix and cant wait for the weekend its perfect.

I just love creating custom 24 hrs Le Mans races in rFactor then watching them playout, the mechanical failures, the crashes, the drama, its great fun

Even in GT4 it was fun trying to win Le Mans by strategy in an inferior car

Online B-Spec, I don't know, but a 24 hour race online? You're bloody crazy. If you have the ability to save a race at a certain point, and come back later to continue, then you're not that crazy.

B-Spec looks really impressive! You would think after getting 100% in A-Spec you're all done...oh no! Adds a totally new layer to an already outstanding game. It was inevitable it would happen but I would've never thought to this scale! The menu looks slick as well.
