Well, it's been rumored for a long time, and here it is...

I have to say,... I think this is one of the worst looking cars, ever. I'd rather have it's forefather the Bentley 'Dominator' -- and that was just a thinly warmed over Range Rover (IIRC).

That looks like a Humvee with a Bentley grille. It looks dirty already too... Do the runs even have holes in them?

They should have lower it and made it a wagon cause SUV are not selling anymore.

Agreed. Even better, just make a Continental estate and shooting brake. I would take a Continental shooting brake speed over almost everything else in the world. An estate would be pretty cool, too.

I like it, looks nice and everything. However, I don't think it fits too well under the Bentley badge. It just doesn't seem right.

What are these companies doing? I just don't understand it. They seem to think they will be remembered for the models they didn't make rather than the ones they did. Hey a gap in the market? WE MUST FILL IT! It's like Budwieser noticing a gap in the curly fries market and developing a product just because they don't already sell curly fries. You watch Porsche come in with a rear engined 4x4 convertible coupe crossover wagon next.

This is madness!

It has a Bentley language but when you turn it into an SUV, it all goes wrong. I'm not a fan of it unfortunately...

Looks nothing like a Hummer. More like a Cayenne with a different ugly face on it.

The verdict is in: Nobody likes this thing. So why the hell did they do it? Who did they consult when coming up with this idea?

...and I thought the Mulsanne was a horrid-looking Bentley. Bloody hell, Bentley! What were you thinking releasing THIS design? I would have liked if Bentley took on something like the gorgeous (and I mean GORGEOUS) Range Rover Evoque. You know, something car-like and stylish. Then again, think about it like this. A lot of people hated the BMW X6 for its design. Hell, I LOVED it. This is a bloody shame if that's what Bentley is really going to release as its SUV. Performance notwithstanding, this may be the ugliest Bentley in history.

So why did Bentley make it? The same reason some people release some things- just to put it out there expecting us to care. Just like the Nissan Juke and the Juke-R. And even the Jukes are better-looking than this Bentley garbage.

Firstly, the Mulsanne is MASSIVE. I saw one at the local dealership and it is absolutely enormous. A do agree that automakers seem to be putting crazy concepts out there to get our attention. Because of the advent of social media and the internet, if any sort of radical concept comes out a carmaker gets a lot of publicity on websites like this. It's just advertising.

Really? I think this looks phenomenal.

This. I would drive it if I had a lot of money. Looks better inside and out than the other stupid senseless SUVs.
I'd consider it a matter of taste if only the two of you hadn't proven a complete lack of it on numerous occasions.

Not only does this horrid thing not look like a Bentley, but it'd be just as ugly if borne by any other brand. Although the Range Rover is a bit fussy in the details, its general shape and presence in much more traditional and elegant than this Chinese piece of crap.

Reminds me of that one-off they built for the Sultan of Brunei:

Which in turn reminds me of this Hackney Carriage:

Then again I'm not a fan of Bentley's design direction over the last 10 years. The brief roughly seems to be 'bloat and add grandeur'. That said, it's not that bad - the rear even has a bit of Audi Q3 in it, and in terms of design that's practically a TVR Sagaris compared to Bentley's other offerings. As for the 'SUVs don't sell' aspect, something tells me that general market conditions aren't going to affect the potential buyers of a V12 Bentley.

Never mind the nameplate, this vehicle looks unhappy in its own skin, and appears fearful that it's going to be hit from behind.

I'm with Clarkson on the Range Rover. Apart from the original, which is a design icon, of the more recent Rangies I prefer the earlier ones (circa 2000-2001 ish I think). While the design hasn't changed much in the last decade or so, the details have got chintzier. It's an incredibly imperious vehicle but some of the latest ones look a little OTT with the messy grille, LED lights, more intricate wheels etc.

...as for the Bentley, I'm in two minds. Seeing the pictures it looks... well, horrific. But it does have some good angles - side-on isn't too bad - the interior is magnificent, and I reckon it'll be a grower. The proportions also work better in the metal.

Though funnily, I reckon it'd look better in the same way the Range Rover would look better - with less glitz. Make the wheels smaller, get rid of the daft headlights, and it'd work well as an alternative to the Rangie.

Bentley have said it will have a redesign before it reaches production.

I'd imagine to fit over the Tiguan with less modification.

Looks like they tried to save some money by not hiring any designers. Unfourtanately, this obviously involved getting Bill from the local chippy to stick the Mulsanne's front end onto a generic SUV body shape...
