Bentley Continental Allroad (a.k.a Bentayga, EXP 9F)

I can perhaps see it in the faux-gravelled driveway of every mock-tudor Cheshire mansion.

That too, but it's not like the Range Rover hasn't suffered from cultural osmosis from the landed gentry and farmers to the Chipping Norton and Cheshire set.

This and the Jaguar will be all over Cheshire, that's for sure.

Let's face it, the majority who complained about the EXP 9's face will never be able to afford one,
Quite plausible, but if it'll depreciate as significantly as some former Bentleys, I'm sure some of them will have the funds for the car (not the concept though, obviously), even though most of them would still never buy such a vehicle even at that point.

I know some of the tweaks to the Bentayga were to help it achieve its top speed, but by comparison the smaller grill set at a more laid back angle looks weaker to me, like a cheap imitation of a real Bentley. Let's face it, the majority who complained about the EXP 9's face will never be able to afford one, while those who could would have lapped it up regardless. Bentley might as well have stuck to their guns.

It might just be me but I am almost never a fan of concepts. They're far too shouty and far too angular in a LOOK AT ME kind of way. And I know grabbing people's attention is the point of a concept but it's really off putting and almost juvenile. The rounded features of a final production model almost always look better than a concept in my opinion.

Mind you, I did like the Jaguar SUV concept, complaints about that are absolutely minimal, and the production model looks almost identical.

If anyone has a problem with their cars looking like cheap facsimiles of themselves, it's Mercedes-Benz. But if they continue to shove the design language down our throats, we'll just get used to it.

Clearly you haven't seen how they make cars at Crewe, that is no ordinary VW plant.

If your going to spend Bentley kind of money on a car you don't want it made like a mass produced Volkswagen.

Yes they use similar parts in the engine as other VAG cars, but they are worlds away in terms of how they are made, even having the Shell made in Slovakia would be a massive cut compared to how they make shells in Crewe.

Ordinary VW plant? Have you ever seen or been inside it? And I rather buy a car from a production line with well trained employees who have been building VAG SUVs for over a decade now and will continue to built next generation Q7/Cayenne/Toureg's, on which the Bentley is based on.

If you don't want your Bentley to be manufactured like a "mass produced" Q7 or Cayenne... why is it ok then to use their engineering, drive trains, suspensions etc? Its not just some similar parts in the engine.

Because hand built and attention to detail trump everything.
Have you see how fast they pump out The cars there? Bentley spends more time on paint then VW do on the entire car.

It's the reason a Bentley takes 9 months to make and a Toyota Corolla 9 hours.

Honestly, I don't think this Bentayga isn't all that bad looking. It could have been severely worse- like Mulsanne worse (especially up front). I still think the most gorgeous luxury-type SUV today is the Range Rover Evoque. However, this Bentley Bentayga looks rather handsome. Very good job by Bentley with this one. Not great, not awesome... but very good.

Well, I can honestly say that I don't hate it. The concept looked hideous, but this is an improvement.

Is the Continental Allroad built in Crewe or in Bratislava and shipped to Crewe to have badges put on it like the Toureg and Cayenne?

I'd love for it to be made in Bratvegas.

I think only the body shell will be made in the Bratislava plant, then shipped over to Crewe where everything else will be fitted.

Interesting. Because, literally, the entirety of the Toureg and Cayenne is made here before the cars are sent to Germany to have the 'Made In Germany' badges put on them. I was kind of hoping the same would happen with the Continental just for... I don't know, some kind of schadenfreude.

I was looking around on Instagram and saw a picture of the Bentayga. To be honest, this may be the most elegant SUV ever created. Not as beautifully brash as the Range Rover Evoque, but I am now looking at the Bentayga as a machine to more elegantly carry more people and items than what you could with a Bentley Continental or something. I actually like this machine. I do. Only thing is that I'd prefer one in silver or some dark green rather than this faded gold color.

So.. My dad showed me this article... Its from 2005...
