Shannon, you beat me to it. No Quarter gets my vote, for the all time best cover. I also like the Mushroomhead cover of some Seal song (I can't remember the name).Originally posted by Shannon
My votes go to:
Metallica - Turn the Page (John English cover) or Tool - No Quarter (Led Zeppelin cover).

I know, but as soon as I saw the thread, I was like "Sweet, I know the perfect song for this thread". Then I come in here, and I see you already posted it. Anyway, good choice.Originally posted by Shannon

Cowboy Junkies' cover of Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane", which would go close to being the best cover of all time - even Lou himself said it was far better than his original.
I saw him do that, live, having never heard his version before. During the buildup to the solo, Zappa sort of strolled out to center stage, as if to take the spotlight. Exactly when I expected him to just destroy the original Page solo, they killed the lights on the front part of the stage and lit up the horn section, who played the solo note for note. It was way cool. Zappa also does a great version of the Allman Brother's "Whipping Post" on Them Or Us.Originally posted by Cano
Frank Zappa cover to "Stairway to heaven", in reggae, with jimmy page's solo executed exatly the same, by the complete selection of [horns] is a masterpiece.
Not to mention their cover of Patsy Kline's "Walking After Midnight" from the same album, which gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it.Originally posted by vat_man

I thought that Smooth Criminal was a lot better on the Alien Ant Farm cover.

On a Zeppelin cover theme, I have to nominate the entire Un-led-ed album by Dread Zeppelin. The standout track is probably "Heartbreaker", rendered with a reggae beat, horns, and an Elvis impersonator mixing the original lyrics with the verses to "Heartbreak Hotel".
