It's a shame that it weighs more than the Z06 though, would have been nice to see it just as light.

Assuming the ZR-1 has 620hp and weighs in at 3,350lbs. and the Z06 has 505hp and weighs 3,162, we are looking at a net power to weight ratio for the ZR-1 at 5.40lbs/hp and 6.26lbs/hp with the Z06. Even though it's heavier you get a far better ratio. I wouldn't be surprised if GM sold a stripped down version of the ZR-1, ditching 188lbs. shouldn't be to hard if you have 1 seat, no AC, no sat-nav, no entertainment system, etc.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it'd look better without that funny see through plastic bonnet thingy.

I agree with you on that. Ferrari and Lambo can pull it off but a Corvette doesn't do it for me.

Know what? I'm apt to agree with you, there, It's something you'd expect at Hot Import Nights. really the only thing on the car I'm not thrilled about.

but isn't that rice-o-rama-screen nearly only thing that separates it from bog-standard Z06 externally, aside from the badges and such?

What about the kicktail spoiler and front splitter? the unique sidescoop? Hell, the Cowl Induction-style bulge in the hood?

They don't use that much of it, but it shows you how quality-oriented G.M.'s trying to get. They want their resin to last.

lol@bog standard Z06 being said like its a bad thing.

Lots of details that someone who knows vettes will notice, the side skirts too, since I didn't see them mentioned.

-> When badging is concerned. The badging on the Z06 is small and few; meanwhile the ZR1 is Silverado SS large and more than two! :scared:

-> I think when it becomes to Vettes, no badges works the best like the Z51. :)

If the motor had gorgeous crackle finish intake castings that looked like a work of art (like on an F430), Chevrolet should be showing it off.

But instead you get a restricted view of (I presume) the intercooler.. which is flat and devoid of interesting features. In this case, I say they should have passed on the window.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of guys swap it out for a carbon fiber cover of some kind...

I'd be willing to bet it gets replaced completely by '09. Of course, it'd make the "Hole" hood 'vettes that much more valuable, like the '63 split-window...

only that much easier to make a knock-off of.

I agree, the car looks good, but that hood thing is awful.

Just noticed Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in the Chevrolet dealer has a update with news on the ZR1.

This car is going to be EPIC! The sound, the performance, the price. I'm so eager to hear all of the final deets sometime soon!

^ I trully agree on that as a 'Vette fan. But I would really like to see a comparo, just to see how it does stack up.

- F430 Scuderia
- 997 GT2
- Mustang Super Snake
- S7 Twin Turbo
- Corvette Z06 (for comparative differences)
- Corvette ZR1
- GT-R V-Spec*
- Viper SRT-10 ACR (base or Trak Pak)
- DBS
- M6
- CLK 63 Black Edition
- R8
- Ford GT (for comparative purposes)

* = tentative

^ This comparo completely apes the ones from Car or Evo magazine in UK. ;)

A lot of these car really aren't in its target area though. I have no doubt it'll probably blow by the GT, M6, or R8 considering these 3 were sometimes above or below the Z06. The Super Snake won't be a threat. It barely hurts the Z06 as well. The DBS & CLK63 AMG might give it a run for its money. The Viper & GT-R V-Spec, we'll have to see.

But the 430 Scuderia & 997 GT2 will probably remain 1 step ahead.

-> I think the ZR1 IS a true alternative to the 599GTB Fiorano, as what Top Gear always comparing the 'bare-bones' Z06 to the masterpiece F550/575 Maranello. :)

On that I completely agree. This Corvette is aimed squarely at the 599GTB and the Murcilago, and I'm sure the GT2 will be thrown in there as well. It should be one helluva race.

Who wants to see how we show off a world-beating sports car in Detroit?

Yeah, wow... Kid Rock, a bunch of strippers, and Jeff Gordon. We know how to do it right...
