I don't think there was ever a huge amount of public support for the Birmingham - Manchester leg anyway as a lot of people just see the whole HS2 scheme as a waste of money that could be used elsewhere to better effect. To what amounts to admiting that at the conference in Manchester is just admiting that they're a bunch of ****ups who couldn't organise a piss-up

The Tories know they will lose the next election, so Sunak is being used to push through all of the unpopular stuff that they have been planning/wanting to do but didn't want to earlier, but now they have nothing to lose by throwing Sunak under a high speed train. The fact that he is to announce this in Manchester is the cherry on the top.

I think it's much better to focus more on the Far-Right at this moment in time than Islam (at least in the UK).
You've also got to make a distinction between Islam and Islamic fundamentalism/extremism.
Just look at what Christian fundamentalists are doing in America (although we don't seem to be as at risk to their influences, it's more just a general right-wing problem here). Would you be against more Christians migrating to the US?
