British GP to be held at Silverstone from 2010

The straight as it was with the Dunlop bridge was quite long and that looks to have doubled it as they have taken the corner out a bit and obviously lengthened it. I think that's a good 19 seconds full throttle?

Is that a bridge I see where they have put a lighter line where the old track skipped the GP part? Are they going to keep the old track layout there where the old chicane is and bridge the new track over it?
That would give a nice incline to turn 2.
Edit: Nevermind, its not a bridge, just looked on the pdf, its just a crossover.

No, but it's easily traceable. One kilometre is a good estimate. Fuji straight is 1.5km. The new Donington pit straight will be about the same length as the Bahrain pit straight.

I like the look of the changes. Overtaking should be possible into turn 1, and the new, big long sweeper looks like a good corner.
That whole new section looks good. You've got the sweeper that is turn two leading straight into a hairpin that looks like it opens a little as it goes, but that puts you straiht into a tightening-radius turn four until halfway through there's the kink that is turn five. It's certainly going to be a critical part of the lap, and I like the way they're designing circuits to catch the drivers out a little. They're the best drivers in the world; Formula One should be raced through a proverbial minefield when itcomes to the challenge.

Turn one will certainly be interesting. It dips sharply down just as it starts to kink to the left after the pit complex, so much so that i'd imagine that at the initial braking point, the hairpin will possibly be unsighted - a bit like the braking point for the corkscrew at Laguna. Depending on how they build up the ground where the new loop will be, the long lefthand turn into the second hairpin could possibly be an even steeper downhill drop.

Drat someone beat me to it. It is being reported that if the building goes ahead it will be the longest start/finish straight in F1. Wonder how much the seats will go for at Turn1?

Fuji is longer than what that would be.

Ok, it's being wrongly reported. Maybe I shouldn't listen to idle gossip. Still like the look of the circuit though, and if this goes ahead and Silverstone upgrade as well to get F1 back we'd have 2 world class tracks.

I wonder if it would be possible to alternate between the two, like other countries are doing now? Its a shame to see Silverstone gone forever.

If Hamilton wins enough championships and remains popular, we just might see Valencia's rubbish track lose that "European GP" title in Silverstone's favour.

*has a dilemma between Hamilton not winning and Silverstone not being on the calendar*

*brain explodes*
^Actually happened

I'm old enough to remember the old Silverstone. I don't regret the loss of this Silverstone. I just hope they don't ruin Donington like they did Silverstone.

I agree, Silverstone upto '86 and too a lesser extent upto '90 was an awesomely fast track. It lost most of it's charm after they'd fannied about with it.

At least with the Donington redesign, the great flowing section of the track between Redgate and Coppice will remain mostly unchanged. For now at least.

I hope someone at PD has thought to laser scan the Donington track before the diggers move in! I'd hate to lose the classic layout.

I dunno, they did include the older versions of Fuji Speedway in GT4, although that wasn't much effort to change I suppose.
To be fair, 90% of the original track will still be there, only the GP loop will be drastically changed.

That should be quite an interesting change, that hill is quite steep. Hopefully I'll go see a few more races at Donington this year. I only live about 30 mins away.

Anyway some news from MCN Sport and BBC News, there are some simulation videos of the new Donington Park circuit for the Formula 1 2010 Grand Prix.

According to the simulations, it has a new infield circuit and get rids of the foggy esses and then resumes back to the old pit straight and into a profiled hollywood and old hairpin back to the pit straight from the two right handers of the existing circuit.

Anyway links below if you want to view the video.....

I thought first corner was going to be tighter than that.
I believe regulations state that the drivers much be able to take the first corner at a certain speed. I believe this speed is relative to either the distance between the corner and the straight that leads into it, or the corner and the Start/Finish Line (which is why circuits such as Bahrain and Spa have tighter first corners than elsewhere).
