What's New This Season?

  • 4 Brand New Cars - Dodge SRT4, Chrysler Crossfire, Mazda Axela and Nissan Skyline 350GT Coupe
  • No More Honda - after two seasons of dominant success, Honda have pulled out of BTCC
  • Small Alterations to the Points System - 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th now worth one more point

This will be the final season of 'pure' BTCC on GT5. However, stay tuned for more action under the BTCC umbrella 👍 :gtplanet:

Rolo mate i just noticed the 1st race has already happened lmao, what was the result? :dunce:

I'm off next thursday so I'll try test all the cars before then and pick one.. :P

Thanks Rolo I'm sure the BMW will give us a better chance in the races :) although i think all you guys are a little quicker than myself and DJ so we will still have a lot of work to do to be winning but at least with a better car we should be able to race with you guys. 👍

Good luck with the BMW guys. 👍

Racing with people that are faster than yourself is the best way to improve, that's exactly what I did when I started playing GT5 online and many others will say the exact same thing. To be honest, I was fairly hopeless when I started playing online and it's only in the past few months that I've started to really up my game and become more competitive. :) I still have my weak points though, for instance I always used the 3rd person (behind the car) view which worked offline, but online you need to see who is trying to overtake so bumper cam is the way forward. I've swapped to bumper cam fairly recently and it has taken some adapting to. I still haven't mastered it and most people have been using that view for ever, for me it still feels odd not being able to see a car that is running alonside me.

Thanks 👍 Yea i know it is, we have been racing online for almost as long as the game has been out but this will be our 1st race series as i didn't know how much was going on here on GTP. As soon as i saw it i had to have a go as i am nearly always one of the quickest in most lobbys. Being slower in a series just goes to show how much more competetive you need to be to in a series compared to general online racing. Am really looking foward to getin down to some serious racing and i am sure i have found a really good competetive series to start and learn 👍

From what I've seen u've mastered it well, everyone is likely gonna have problems knowing who along side them, that's how it is but ur doing really well, ive been playing it heavily since release and I can barely keep up with anyone in btcc, once I've had a little off or crash where I had to back off, I can never catch up

Keep improving mate and good luck with this season, I'm sure u and p1k3y will do great ;-)

For me i am pretty confident that i can keep pace as long as i don't have an off somewhere but i think my team mate might have more of a problem with consistency

Oh yea one quick question for rolo, i understand that aero is an option, but once it is being used are we allowed to remove the wing all together (for some of the power tracks) or once we are using a wing do we have to keep using it for the whole season?

May not bother either way but would like to confirm if it is an option or not.

Thanks 👍

Ok sweet useful to know, but doubt it will make enough of a diference but maybe worth a try.

A lack of consistency is my problem too, I can quite easily buckle under pressure and make an error. Any error at Suzuka usually costs a lot of time, there are some horrible gravel traps on that circuit and they just suck you right in. :(

I struggle with Degner 1 + 2. I can't scrub off the speed well enough so I usually brake early for those turns and that loses me some time.

Was watching some of the first practice race back yesterday and noticed the two Alfas which started 3rd & 4th got as good a starts as the two G35s that were in front of them!?! Especially canyon's; if anything his was actually better. I hope Pikey and Dj make their BMWs a bit wider than that at Suzuka!

When i did my 1/4 mile tests i got 13.2 on the 1/4 mile with the alfa romeo

My integra was a 13.5 car with the turbo and 13.6 without .

I got 13.4 with the older focus , will try with the new focus maybe later today .

Rob has joined the Stewards' panel.

Looks like I won't be forced to team anyone up - we have 12 drivers in teams, and 3 independents (non-reserve). 👍

Hmm. Suppose going wingless maybe helps a little? And everyone is free to do that. But they definitely look like a good all-rounder for this season.

Ive done a lot of wing vs no wing tests and this is what ive noticed .

The wing helps in the first 100 - 400 m , I guess the downforce gives more grip/traction .

Its in the 400-1000 m (higher gears n speed) no wing is better than running a wing .

Ive noticed the time difference to be a tenth or less than a tenth .

The test data from route x is limited though because its only 1000 m and you cant simulate being in draft .

Being in draft without a wing compared to having a wing im sure is more than a 1 tenth difference .

Not sure if this info helps anyone but just thought id share it .

That's quite interesting. So when you say wing vs. no wing are you talking a full 20pts DF or...? I honestly thought a wing on an FF would give a worse start because you are adding the DF to the wrong end of the car plus it will only come into effect over about 60mph by which time you are no longer traction limited anyway so you don't need any extra DF.

I'm not a big fan of just rear wings on their own (unless set very low just to add a bit of stability) because without any front DF to balance it out you generally just create a tendency to understeer in the mid-high speed corners. Especially with an FF layout.

BTCC GT Academy Trophy results on their way shortly (yes I did completely forget about it.. thanks Rob for the reminder :sly:)

consistency isn't a worry for myself just my team mate 👍
Unfortunately for you degner 1+2 is one my strongest parts of suzuka :)

we did try and box one in between us but without pushing our luck too much ;) and they done a very good job of forcing a gap on us :) and our 1st gear was not right (getting a lot of bogging down on launch, we will get this sorted on our BMW before 1st race).

Yeah I thought it looked like you bogged. Gimme a shout if you want my BMW setup from last season.

Also, if i know what grid pos i'm starting from I usually like to do a practice start just to get an idea of where to brake from on cold tyres. If you're starting from the front row it's worth knowing. Not so much if starting further back as there will generally be cars bunching up so a specific braking point can't really be predetermined.

thanks, but i'm hoping we wont have a problem with that as Dj usually really good with the gearing and suspension setup (except with infiniti lol).

Congratulations to Red_Leader

Results may have a bearing on future series.

Wow i like the look of that :) 4th in points, if im there at the end of the BTCC season i will be very happy :D

What car colors are available so far? I was thinking of going black but it seems it's already taken

Me and Weezy are rockin' an off-white pearl - Cool Vanilla

Don't think anyone has green or orange or purple yet.

Yeah we've ended up using black, it wasn't something that we discussed, it just happened and it looks good on the Alfa. Stealthy. :) I'm using yellow wheels and canyondrifter's are red.
