It's in the focus right? Rob or rolo (can't remember) said he was in the 23's but felt the car was able to be in the 21's.
Maybe the setup needs work đź’ˇ

For now I'll Keep the car as a surprise, it's not even sure this is the one I'll be using :) though I've been thinking driving a yellow Volkswagen might be fun :) ("YELLOW CAR!" and "Volkswagen!" in one! )

PS: If anyone's interested, I've been running a list of cars at Deep Forest to assess their suitability for S3 mainly, but I suppose S2 as well if necessary. If people wish I'll let people know what I've been finding. Input appreciated too.

Could be very interesting. Is it with same specs as this season, and which new cars have you got in mind?

Firstly I just wanna say that if geeky, or the masses, would rather preserve the status quo for S3 then I can stop what I'm doing and we can think of another set of rules for S3. However, reading through the thread it seems like cars were a big issue in pre-season.

I run every car to this season's regulations: 305hp, 1200/1400kg (depending on drivetrain), and 490PP.

With every car I tune it as far as I can - I add the following parts to every car:

  • Aero (including Front/Rear/Extension where possible)
  • Sports: Soft tyres
  • Twin Plate Clutch
  • Semi-Racing Flywheel
  • Carbon Propeller Shaft (when available)
  • 6 Speed Close Ratio Transmission (or 5 if 6 isn't available)
  • Titanium Racing Exhaust
  • Sports Exhaust Manifold
  • Catalytic Converter: Sports
  • Sports Intake Manifold
  • Racing Air Filter
  • Stage 1/2/3 Weight Reduction (if necessary)
  • Window Weight Reduction/Carbon Bonnet (if necessary)
  • Sports ECU
  • Stage 1/2/3 Engine Tuning (if necessary)
  • Stage 1/2/3 Turbochargers (if necessary) - or a Supercharger if it's available and proves quicker

I then use the Power Limiter and Ballast to make the cars fit the regulations, but do no other set-up tuning.

When it comes to the track I turn Tyre/Fuel Depletion off so I can get consistent quick pace, but every other setting is as per the regulations.

I'm doing the running at Deep Forest at the moment because it's a track I know well, we're racing on this week and hopefully is varied enough to get a good idea of the car's capabilities. It may not be the best track to test on but there's time to add more later if necessary.

I appreciate these tunes possibly won't suit every car, and obviously the set-ups aren't fine tuned so it's not the absolute ultimate pace. But hopefully what I'm doing is consistent enough.

Initial Car List: (Don't worry about the size, I'm only gonna be thinking about the fastest car for each manufacturer and in the end I want no more than 6-10 cars anyway, depending on what people would like to see)

Have only just begun really (so stop me if this is a waste of time!), but currently the standings are:

Code:
Renault Clio Renault Sport '02 - 1:22.993 (305 BHP, 1200 KG, 477 PP)
Alfa Romeo 147 GTA '02 - 1:23.526 (305 BHP, 1200 KG, 474 PP)

Toyota Corolla RUNX Z AEROTOURER '02 - 1:26.509 (297 BHP, 1200 KG, 455 PP)

Obviously so far it appears that some cars are just rubbish! If people wish I'll keep going and add more times to the list as time goes on.

If people wanna add cars to the list then suggest them to me. Any other input appreciated too, even if it's to tell me not to bother with this, lol :)

Bloody hell, good work
Rob said he was going for 1:21s but I can't go any faster than a 1:23.1.
Me neither, I did a 1.23.5 on my third lap so I thought they'd be a lot left, but there isn't

So I've opted for a 'safer' setup which should be better for tyre wear

No worries - Monza, HSR and Indy should be very good for us anyway

Wow that's a hell of an operation you have going on there!
Your test methods seems to be consistent and must be a hell of a lot of work!
Thinks it's very interesting, great to see how different cars compare to each other.

But then again I think I'll be hard to get more than 2 additional cars in the championship, when there has to be 2 cars per team.
Some cars from S2 would obviously had to be removed to make space for new cars.

Just filling time really, doesn't take that long to be honest. Part of it is doing it just to compare cars really.

I'll redo the Lexus, didn't realise the regulations had changed.

I feel sorry for the Vectra boys in all of this, the car seems quite slow! Perhaps the one thing that will change...

Yeah it's a shame, helmet tested the Focus at SSR5 last season and he was just a couple of tenths off the Integras... bit embarrassing

Yeah... That car will most certainly be replaced with another car for season 3. A boat of a car :)
Looking forward to see what the megane can do!
Drove the new megane rs on the ring a month back and it was amazing đź‘Ť

WOW!!! thats alot of work :embarrassed:

Basically, very simular rules just several different car? Be interesting :)
Carry on your work, decide on a smaller amount of cars and then it is likely depending on what people think if we use it :)
Looking at it, you could have 15 cars easily, 1 for everyone ;)

oh yes, I forgot to say I can't do the video with commentary.
I have got a serious cough problem, I just keep cough... REALLY COUGHING!!!
So the video will have to wait :(

Hope you get better soon đź‘Ť
Began to worry why there wasn't any race review :)

Wow. Alot happened while I was asleep. I think that rally you should just take the bimmer. Like I said there are 4 audis. I think deep forest raceway suits the bimmer overall but sector one suits FF, sector 2 suits FR, and sector 3 suits AWD...

It's a great track isn't it :)
Fell a little in love with it last night

Haha yeah. With the risk of sounding like a new car advert I think we can all fall a lil bit in love with the bimmer...

I think the plan is to file off the fastest and slowest cars until we end up with 6-8 closely-matched cars in the middle. Makes sense anyway

Priorities, that time is better spent testing and equalising anyway ;)

The last corner is seriously my favourite corner of any racing game ever

Yeah, the last corner is great! It's fast, tightens a bit, and any inch of inaccuracy will send you onto the grass. I'm still to try drifting through, but must be fun :) however, for the matter, my all-time favorite corner is the suicide chicane of SSR11 đź‘Ť (PD, Y U NO MAKE R11???)

Well I haven't got the Spa DLC, or any game with Spa on it

What I really meant was: The last corner is seriously my favourite corner on a fictional track of any racing game ever

Afraid for this round I want to race lol as I'm away for the next 2 rounds of this. (PURE thing then Knockhill)

I guess that would be sensible. Looks like 1:24s is gonna be the middle range. Maybe 1:24.5 should be the exact middle point. I'll guess I'll see how it goes once I've got a few more cars tested... not sure when that's likely to be atm, but I'll keep you informed with updates =)

I suppose if the results aren't as clear as that, it's always possible to alter the weight limits for individual cars to try and balance it all.

Variety is always good in a touring car series!

Keep them relevant though, if possible... ie. in an ideal world we'd have 6-8 cars that are very equal and roughly connected to cars used in the real series :)

I'm aiming at that, in fact I may even trim the list down now to those which I feel are most relevant (e.g. have been used as BTCC cars in the past, or were S1 cars).

I know this is quite a bit off topic, but guess what: I've managed to create a track that looks a little similar to Brands Hatch Indy! I'm putting it on share soon. And looking at what I see on my TV, the old Silverstone is not far away :D

Better than nothing!

'track-editor' is a bit of an overstatement isn't it PD :D

OK, I've revised my list down to 18 cars. Didn't really want to remove the Volvo C30, but I guess strictly speaking it has never been a BTCC car.

I guess now there's 18 it's easy to cut the group down to 9 and then 6. I imagine there may or may not be 3 Alfa's in the field, for example!

New List:

Renault Clio Renault Sport '02 - 1:22.993 (305 BHP, 1200 KG, 477 PP)
Alfa Romeo 147 GTA '02 - 1:23.526 (305 BHP, 1200 KG, 474 PP)
Alfa Romeo 147 TI 2.0 TWIN SPARK '06 - 1:24.201 (302 BHP, 1200 KG, 463 PP)
Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24V '98 - 1:24.251 (305 BHP, 1200 KG, 472 PP)
Opel Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 - 1:24:494 (305 BHP, 1228 KG, 474 PP)
Lexus IS200 '98 - 1:24.572 (305 BHP, 1400 KG, 455 PP)
Audi S3 '02

If anyone wants to check out my bigger post about how I'm doing the testing, that's on Page 77. I'll stick to editing this post from now on.
