Well, for me it's not about being bored or finding it tedious. It's about time constraints.
If there's 3 cars in the dealership that I want, I want to get them and get to playing. Maybe it's my age, and the fact that my time to play is often limited, but I kind of view my time as precious and I saw the rigamarole of buying a car in gt5 as basically as tantamount of too-long loading-time, except knowing it was completely unnecessary.
I'm not sure why someone would want to deny me those extra minutes in my life doing something else than watching some animation & reloading a screen. LOL So peeps, really relax about that. If you don't find it tedious, one wonders why you're bothering to read a thread with a title that makes it clear you're going to read a lot of "moaning"
It's more like tradition than a feature in the eyes of PD, they designed the "buying a car" scene and they want you to see it everytime you buy a car...even if you're sick of it when buying the 1000th+ car.
I don't think any amount of research can suggest that not providing the option to skip extraneous animations benefits anything; nevermind the overall brand image.
I think it's more than tradition, and did have a certain "benefit" in mind, at least originally.
Video games are ALWAYS designed with addict-ability in mind. ALWAYS that psychological component is involved. And I think making you wait for certain things creates a psychological reward expectation or something along those lines. (If I can find some of the articles I've read about this I'll come back & post them in case people don't know what I'm talking about & haven't read about this themselves.)
My guess is that was the issue behind the original rigamarole involved with buying a car.
That it was designed to create expectation and reward emotional triggers.
Thing is though - that's so 2010.
And this is Gran Turismo
6
And it's 2013, and they should give up on that, because now, it's all about the INSTANT psychologically with this stuff.
Instant sharing, like buttons (instant participation)... etc.
So in that sense, I think there's an argument to be made about them needing to move with the times on this.
On the other hand, the fact that this time-waster still exists in gt6 will be a boon for my Mom. As eventually in gt5, I generally have done my OCD car buying while on the phone with my mother, and splitting my attention that way probably made me seem more patient about listening to lengthy descriptions of the latest neighborhood gossip about the HOA at her gated community & who's going for what surgery next week. And with the sound turned off, it was a much better choice than trying to do chores while on the phone, with her asking me every 10 seconds stuff like
"what's that awful noise? are you doing dishes? What's that alarm going off? Is that the washing machine? It sounds like you're talking to me from the dress factory I worked at in the 1950s!" etc..
