tech specs:
3cyl
543cc
SOHC
watercooled
drum brakes (non boosted)
10" factory standard rims
takes leaded petrol
paid 200AU (150US) for it

pros:
22kms to the litre (sorry to those in US i dunno the conversion)
wide angle mirror so you can see cars passing you
comfy seats

cons:
its too small (around 1.5m wide)
its too slow (0-60kms in 15 seconds)
fuses blow randomly
exhaust has come away from the manifold
vaccum advance doesnt work (have to hold accellerator down otherwise engine wont idle)

waterpump is gone so the engine overheats every 30mins or so. this requires me to stop and wait for an hour before continuing

👎

but the car looks tidy

by the way check out my rear windscreen... the sticker looks funny but its true

I have several entries.

Current Car. 1994 Acura Vigor. 225,000 miles.

Pros: Five cylinder engine (The only one honda ever made to my knowledge), very rarely see one on the road. Will do a second gear scratch with an auto transmission.

Cons: Five Cylinder engine (The only one honda ever made to my knowledge). Parts. Rust above all four wheel wells, no power steering, leather interior (very cracked and torn, only good for burning my legs and making my ass sweat). Uses approx. 1 quart of oil a week. The second gear scratch isn't from power, the transmission just drop-shifts.

Car Before that one: 1985 Saab 900 SPG. 110,000 miles.

Pros: Fast

Cons: Leather interior (see Vigor), only two shops I found would work on it. One shop was very expensive, the other was terrible (once super-glued on my distributor cap). Couldn't find parts. I owned this car for a year, it was in the shop for 4 months.

First Car (the best one) 1979 Ford LTD Landau. We think it had 215k on it, but due to it being a one owner car (who was deceased) no one knew how many times the odometer rolled over.

Pros: BIG, reverse drops, never-ending burnouts.

Cons: I received this car from my great aunt (in her will). It sat for 2 years after I got it (I was only 14), and it probably sat for 3 years before that. I was only allowed to drive to school and to my gf's house because the car wouldn't make it more than about 10 miles before starting to smoke. It was a flat pea green color with a formerly matching vinyl top and a matching vinyl interior. It got approximately 8 miles to the gallon thanks to the 351 C.I. V8. Luckily it didn't have any acceleration because of all the dry rot in the valves that occured in its five years of sitting. When the dipstick was pulled, something resembling marshmallow creme was on the dipstick. The bumper had been ripped off and replaced with some other bumper (not from a 79 LTD) that was blue and rust. Only had three hubcaps. After hitting a good size bump, you could expect the shocks to bounce at least 4 more times, usually more like 7. I'm not sure if this falls in the pros or cons, but the car was big (and heavy) enough that when I hit a deer with it doing about 45, the only damage was a cracked grill. The con to that was that the cracked grill officially totalled the car, at $200. I wound up selling it to a kid I went to school with because he wanted to enter a burnout contest. He wound up winning, he blew out a tire and the engine. RIP.

1993 Hyundai Excel Base 3-door

Pros: Great looks, fun to drive.

Cons: Transmission blew, few electrical problems, AC is gone, gas gauge doesn't work, 140,000 miles, very loud on the highway, creeks and rattles.

Face it, it's a POS :( . Plus our Camry is far better.

wow... so nice. :dopey: I got a Speed limiter put in, as if my rubberband powered engine needs one. About 2 or 3 weeks ago I rotated my tires as I changed the brakes. Now I'd think it wouldn't make a difference where the tires are but apparently it does because when I get up to 90mph (really 85 because of my tire/rim size  ) it's starts to vibrate really bad so if I back off to about 80(really 75) then it's ok. But... My brakes kick ass now! :dopey: and the brake light doesn't come on anymore.

Ok, everyone from post 323 to this post who applied is in. However, I'm too damn lazy to update the first post. Just show the link in your sig!

I can no longer be a part of the C3. Not because I have another car, but because my Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is out of commission. Even when I get my next car, I still won't be a part of the C3 -- but it's been fun though! :dopey:

I'm giving myself until the end of July to get a 1997 or 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII or Mark VIII LSC. I have a job now, so money is no longer a problem -- credit on the other hand... :ill: almost there, though. :sly:

Hmmm, sounds like every other Grand Cherokee out there. ;) BTW, the one-tire burnout thing is because you don't have positraction, or more likely on a Jeep, lockers. Most normal cars only spin one tire, or two if its in 4x4 (on ice or snow). And tires and brakes are normal wear items--everything needs new tires someday--it's close to complaining that it's almost out of gas. Now, if you had a Pinto, and a full gas tank tripled the value of your car, that would be one thing. But...

And the battery mount can't be THAT expensive. They could probably replace it for less than $10 when you take it in to have the tranny fluid changed (which is probably the reason it has issues--it's probably never been serviced). It is a straight six, also, and it sounds like one of your front CV joints is a little ways past gone. If it was a BMW or Lexus in this kind of shape, that would be one thing, but as far as Jeeps go, it sounds like it's in about average shape, if slightly neglected. I'd say you have a bit of an uphill battle. Of course, who am I to say you can't EARN your way into the club through intentional neglect? Good luck!

That's not fair!!! You said everything I wanted to say -- only difference is:

Parts/labor $2000?! You should consult the FTC or BBB about that. How do you know it didn't need a shot of freon?

-pretty much running on 1wd (i did a burnout one wheel spun)

ALL CARS WITH AN OPEN DIFFERENTIAL ARE "1 WHEEL DRIVE". THAT IS NOT A CON THAT IS REALITY. My [future] Mark VIII is 1 wheel drive, my mom's Dodge Stratus is one wheel drive.

If you have a "locked differential" and it's acting like it's open, try adding fluid to the diff. If that doesn't work, it's probably worn out... :ill:

-makes a really weird noise when turning left like metal on metal

Add power steering fluid... see what happens. Definitely a "con" -- never heard of that before.

-brakes are pretty much gone

Change the pads and the rotors... "bed" them, good as new (not a con, by the way).

-5% or less left of tread on tires

This is not a con... this routine maintenence... Mavis Discount Tire or Sears -- they sell cheap durable tires.

-engine idles below 300 rpm and make a weird rattling noise

Could be a vacuum leak (no car is suppose to idle that low). That is a true "con".

-tranny shifts bad - I floored it and it hit redline and wouldnt shift, shifts really rough

Check you accumulator springs, change tranny fluid & filter see if it makes a difference. Metal filings in the tranny fluid equals imminent failure. Sounds like a "con".

-shocks are bad(very sqeaky)

Does it affect drivability?

-radio makes a weird noise when turned on or when u press 5 for presets

Doesn't count. My car didn't have a radio or cassette or CD player for over 2 months.

-battery mount broke, battery is pretty much rolling around under the hood

That's bad. Definitely a "con".

all I can think of for now

Sounds like a crappy car to me, but I suggest you delete the "routine maintenence" items and the items that don't affect drivability.

They looked at it, told me theres a leak in the hose, and the whole a/c needs to be stripped out and be replaced. 2000 with labor

I think you're being ripped off:

I found this quote: (it may or may not apply)

If the air conditioner gradually stops cooling, the computer (PCM) may not be sending a signal to the compressor-clutch relay to cycle off, which causes the A/C evaporator to freeze up. (1993-95 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

I know it's a 97 btw, but the same site listed a problem area for the car I am looking to buy as only affecting years 93-94? and the problem actually lasted until the 1997 model year. Just something to look at.

My suggestion:

Shop around. Don't pay more than you need to. Find out from other dealers/shops how much it would cost to do the exact same thing that they're doing. $2000 a/c on a vehicle worth $5000 is ridiculous.

Nah, the differential doesn't effect the horsepower... it's how the power is distributed to the wheels that's all. Traction is the really the only issue, not the power. :dopey:
