Cannonball Run Mode in GT5

I think this is VERY possible, with the right programming and use of the PS3. It's just like streaming a video. It's plays as it downloads.

What if...you could do cross country, or cross region races in GT5? Rather than drive around a track, just start from a McDonalds in New York to the harbor in Boston. Granted, it would be a hell of a lot of work....might almost be an ENTIRE game project rather than a menu selection, but would still be very cool. PGR 3 modeled an entire city, so I wonder if you could model just certain routes to places.

Cool stuff.

No.

I woudln't mind if GT5 has no more extra things; GT is just racing/rallying and customize your car (Note: don't read ricing a car) and hit the track with it

They speed a lot in Gumball Rally, aswell as getting chased by cops. Shame most stop.

Lo!

I think I saw a clip of the rally...It looked pretty fun, but that's for more of a NFSU or a PGR game. Not GT's flavor.
Good idea, tho. 💡

 Uhh... no. The only difference between NFS:U and Gumball Rally is.

in NFS:U... They are all Asian in Asian cars and they are ghetto not to mention don't know how to drive.

in Gumball Rally... They are white with American Cars or a few imports that are not Japanese. They can't drive either but since it's mostly a straightline they look like they can. The real danger is the beer that slows them down.

As for this in GT5... ehh, seems a bit pointless and borders on becoming NFS:U which I'd like to AVOID at all costs.

Targa races would be cool, the Gumball maybe not, similar principal but the Gumball's are on open roads, ie with traffic and everything around too, GT isn't an illegal road racing game, sure the Gumball itself isn't illegal but the speeding everyone does in it is. Something like the Millie Miglia or a similar course would be great, point to point on closed roads.

You've obviously never seen the European one. There's heaps of Japanese cars, lots of GTR's etc. There's also a ton of exotic European and British stuff, Lambos, Ferraris, Porches, Astons, Bentleys, Rolls, TVRs etc.

There's a hell of a lot of danger, especially in the European one, they're weaving through traffic on motorways and stuff.

Of course it doesn't belong in GT5, it's a stupid idea. GT is always about real racing, it doesn't want to get caught up in any street racing fad of the month things.

itsa cool idea but posibly will take up a lot of space in the game. I dont think the pd guys are gonna go cross country and design tracks just like the real things. It will be cool to at least have a track that seems like it came from city streets. possobly with yellow tape marking off the streets you cant go in like i saw on tv 👍

speaking of gumball, at the mph in birmingham, the ferrari 550 le mans that participated was up for aution, when i was there, it was goin for 91,000! i'll post a pic when i get home.

Gumball ralley is a forgery of the original cannonball run. The One Lap of America is now the replacement,a more legal version. It even has the original organizer for the events and writer of the cannonball screen play staring, well alot of actors*, Brock Yates.

*Burt Reynolds, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Junior, Jackie Chan, and a ton of others *

Gumball rally also races on roads around european nations. Sometimes sneaking away from cops like at tollbooths. And also they go around corners, plus in the car you would have to use a map.

So you don't get lost.

just like to add that if they can put 50 sq miles of los angelas into True Crimes on a 6.7gb dvd...they can most likely fit 500 miles of road onto a 50gb blueray...plus since its mostly highway they can have pieces repeat with slight differences, either way it wouldnt take that much memory and it would be uber cool.

yeap and you need to have something decently fast i.e. Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, Audi, BMW, etc. and if you guys wanna see a video go look for the gumball rally police escort video....some italian cop in a subaru outback books down crowded public roads escorting an E39 M5 and you can hear the guys laughing and expressing their likness about the officer, definately one of the coolest cops ive ever seen.

I just like imagining it, it would be sick, but nah I dont think they'll bother, although it MIGHT MIGHT somewhere be possible.

👍👍
Instead of the 1000 miles torture in4 , some sort of long road circuit ; complex string + Nurburgring w/ variations in surface would really test those PD models AND the driver alertness .
Having it all motorsport spec circuits makes it a little claustrophobic . I think a really Loooong road race would be tasty as hell and really give vent to driver/vehicle expression . The outcome of such an adventure , ONLINE , w/ PS3 mem capability would swing things way from the robotic and into the . . erotic !

I don't claim to be a movie person, but recently on Speed Channel, "The Gumball Rally" was shown on Speed. The concept called for a cross-country excursion from New York City to Los Angeles (or Long Beach?). I think I heard "no catalytic converters, no 55mph speed limit..." and that sort of thing. Well, it's time this Houston boy sounds off. Time to answer the call, Johnny boy.

The reason I'm not really going to buy into it is because I don't know the full capabilities of the PS3 and the extent of how far PD wants to push things. On top of that, if I wanted a street racing rally, I'd look into the possibilities of reliving the Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, or much closer to me- the Carerra Pan-Americana. I don't know if you all are dreaming of a Gumball Rally deal in the sense of illegal street racing, novelty racing, brining the movies to a racing video game, or what. I think in the nature of Gran Turismo, something like the Gumball Rally isn't really part of the series' nature. Don't get me started on actual cars from the 1976 movie. This isn't going to happen because (1) I don't see PD actually modelling a whole bunch of cities and small towns and country roads with various types of car and truck on the road at once. (2) Can you REALLY trust that this is going to be a serious rally deal? At best, a point-to-point series would likely benefit better than this. (3) Do you want cops to burst in and intercept and intervene your attempts at winning?

To give the benefit of the doubt, I'll give this less than 30% of a possiblity of happening at best. This is a movie idea that really isn't at least amateur racing. The best case for this is a collection of tarmac rally races is either a vintage-style rally series (like the Targa Florida, Mille Milgia, etc.) or whatever. For the most part, this is illegal street racing that would make this sim game more arcadish. Now, had this been a "Fast and Furious" idea, this would COMPLETELY be denied. Maybe this is my first time seeing "The Gumball Rally," but this isn't going to happen no matter how much effort PD puts into GT5 to *try* to implement this feature. Can't expect everyone to agree with you, so I'm sorry.

I'd wouldn't mine getting chased by cops in a Special Event in GT5, Long as it's several cops chasing me and I can use a Hybrid to make it fair! :dopey:

Mr. Boy
Gumball Rally? Uh...NO!
Targa Florio or Mille Miglia? Uh...YES!
I agree. Also the Carerra Pan-Americana, as JohnBM01 stated. I'd be all for somthing like those, but I couldn't see the Gumball Rally or a Cannonball Run being put into GT5.
