Cipher, great to have you mate. My goal is for the Capp Cup to be a good entry level series where you can learn the ropes of online racing in a car that handles and behaves like a true race car but at much slower speeds and thus easier to learn with. As you can see, we have a great group of friendly and helpful drivers here so feel free to ask any questions or for advice. I have a couple tunes for the Capp I will be posting, hopefully they will give you a good starting point to work from. The Capp can be a little frustrating but it's truly a rewarding car to drive and learn with.
As for the points, the way we did it last season was have 3 races per week. Each race for the week was at the same track for the same number of laps, everyone was free to race as many times as they liked and their best finish for the week went to their points standing. There was a bonus point for pole and I later added a bonus point for fastest driver of the week (lowest elapsed time). This really worked out well since it lead to some interesting strategy and allowed drivers to compete against each other even if they weren't able to race together.
This season we are probably going to switch to a double-header format where we run 2 races back-to-back each night with the second race starting with reverse order of the first race results. This gives everyone a chance to run at the front and fight through the pack and should be more entertaining for everyone involved. If you have a bad first race you can make up for it in the second race and it reduces the chances of a driver spending many laps by himself after an early incident. We will still do the 3 race per week format where your best finish goes towards your points.
The points will be awarded like this:
Each race will count for full points and driver's points for each race will be added together to get their total for the night. There will be a bonus point for pole position of the 1st race and another bonus point for winning both races. Your best points finish (not finishing position) for the week will go to your weekly total. Overall times for each race are recorded and in the event of a tie at the end of the season (among podium finishers only) the fastest times will be used as a tie breaker. There will be 6 rounds and each round will have 3 races (total of 18 races) but only your best 4 ROUNDS will count at the end of the season. If a driver only finishes 1 of the 2 races in a night they will receive those points but no points for the other race. If a driver rage quits a race they will receive no points for that race.
Now, for the tracks. I've done some more testing of the mentioned tracks and think I have a rough draft for the schedule:
Round 1: Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka East
Round 2: Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid Mini-Reverse
Round 3: Grand Valley Grand Prix at Grand Valley East-Reverse
Round 4: Toscana Grand Prix at Custom 1.6mile Oval
Round 5: Italian Grand Prix at Rome Reverse
Round 6: Monaco Grand Prix at Cote d'Azur
I haven't determined lap counts yet because we haven't come to a firm conclusion on the 1 race or 2 race format. I think most people have been in support of the 2 race format so that's the direction I'm leaning now and that's really the one I want to do anyway. Everything mentioned in this post is the first rough draft for the 3rd season but none of it is set in stone, let's discuss it so I can firm things up and get everything finalized. 👍
Oh, one more thing, wish me luck in the first Clio Cup race today and put some sort of whammy or black magic hex on Wardez and Owens.
