Ilike the idea of a double header with 2 smaller races. But i also think running the third race for 30-45 minutes with a pit stop would be good. Maybe that race will play out differently with more laps. Just an idea. I like the schedule

Oops: Just realised I've not registered!

So, when do you think the season will start? Because I'm still trying to learn somethings and I want to know how much time I have.

Glad to hear you are now up to full HP.

Perhaps the most important aspect of driving this car is the gear change - To get the most out of it, you will have to change gear at about 8000 RPM. The redline is much higher but the power drops off quite a lot above 8000 revs.

Thanks for telling me that. I recently started learning Manual. I've been letting the gears hit the limiter before changing. I tried changing at 8K and I'm much faster now. Thanks.

Most definitely this car does not work with automatic transmission. You can shift below 8000 and you're ok but much after that, or letting it go to the redline will cause you to lose a second or two a lap. If you can't use manual right now, you'd best learn...others have tried automatic and it just isn't suited to this car.

Yeah. I'm trying to learn quick. I'm getting there. I keep losing revs in the corners, so I'm working on that. I've done a few good laps just practicing at Tsukuba, so I know what's right and what's wrong.

The season is probably going to start on September 20 so you've got a couple weeks yet to learn the manual. 👍

So I've been thinking about the schedule and format some more today and might have an interesting plan:

Suzuka East: double-header format
Madrid Mini Reverse: double-header format
Grand Valley FULL: 40 minute enduro with mandatory pitstop
Custom Oval: double-header format
Rome-Reverse: double-header format
Monaco: 40 minute enduro with mandatory pitstop

And if we want to really mix things up, we could do 2 tire compounds for the enduro's. I could have everyone enter the pits on sports soft to start the race, then change the restrictions to race hard. At the pitstop the race tires would be available. Would have to make a rule that the pits aren't open until after lap 10 to keep people from switching tires too early.

Eh? :)

Yeah. I was going to tell you to make Monaco a longer race. I think that it's a great plan. I'm not too sure about how the tire changes would work out though.

Is it even possible to change the tyres like that? If everyone is in the pits and you change the tyres, wouldn't GT5 kick everyone off the track for failing to meet regulations?

Assuming that isn't possible, someone (or all the stewards) would have to watch the replay back to ensure that everyone did change tyres correctly. Now that would be very tedious, so I'm not sure if that would work.

But I really like the idea of a longer race with a pit stop. It mixes things up a bit and means the likes of me can run at the front for a lap or two. :)

Yeah RDA, lots of series have implemented option tires in their races to variable effectiveness. People forget, all the time. The best thing to do is to start every one on the lesser tire instead of the better one for the instances where people forget to change compounds. Only way to regulate it, since GT5 can't, is to hand out penalties for non-compliance.

But yes, it works.

RDA pretty much summed up what I meant about not knowing how it would work.

I think if we started on Sport Soft, then switched to Racing Hard would be best.

Could be a nightmare though - When you pit, you have to change the selection for front and rear tyres. Mistakes will be so easily made as it is so hard not to simply press X when the options appear!

As this series is being deemed an 'entry level' series, perhaps this is one option that should be left to the more professional series?

That's kinda my feelings too, I just wanted to toss it out there for everyone to chew on. I think it opens too many doors for problems/confusion to arise.

I do really like the idea of splitting the schedule between the 2 race format and the enduro format though. I have a lot of people ask for longer races with pitstops so this is a way to get a couple of those in. I'd just have to be sure to remind everyone about pitstops for those races, but we'd stay on the Race Hard tires for the whole event.

I was planning on running it as one championship, the enduro races would count for double points to keep everything uniform. Maybe a bonus point for winning both enduro's?

I just made my Cappy and got the "loony tune" trophy.Haven't even tested it yet and I like it already.:P

So. To aid my practice, I'd like to ask one of you to tell me your average lap time for Grand Valley. I wanna see how I stack up, and to see where I can shave off seconds when driving in manual.

Cipher, I'll be doing some testing on lap times of all tracks this evening and I will post my findings here. Keep in mind I'm usually 1-2 seconds off the pace of the front-runners, but it will be a good baseline.

I have created a poll for everyone to vote on which format they would prefer for season 3. The choices are: same format as last season (1 race), double-header format (2 races, reverse grid for second race), mixed format (4 double-headers, 2 single "enduro-style" race). Try to get your vote placed this week so I can start formalizing the schedule. 👍

Have a look at the thread for last season which lists the tracks we raced at and the number of laps for each race. In the second post in that thread there are the results: For GVE, Brandon has listed the winning times, so simple division will tell you an average race lap time.

But the best thing to do is to join Brandon online tonight - Don't worry about your laptimes as you will get plenty of tips and help if you ask for it. Oh, and you'll probably have a good laugh too.

Well, I think we are going to run the full Grand Valley course as an enduro this season, we've only run the East versions before so the lap times will be off. But if you want to practice at one of the tracks we raced at last season you can review the times as RDA suggested and that will give you some kind of a benchmark to work towards. I will have some lap times posted this evening or tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, here is a preliminary tune from The Anonymous Tuner that might give you a good starting point. I've only driven a few miles with this tune, but it's from a prolific tuner of the GTP tuning community. 👍

Looks like the multi-format schedule with 4 double-headers and 2 enduro's is winning in the polls by a landslide so far! I will keep the poll open until next week but as soon as I see a clear majority I will formally make that the schedule format.

Cast your vote now!

My newly modded cap should bring me from the back of the pack to middle, I'm hoping...

How in the hell?

Yeah, seriously. What kind of blackmagic you pulling on us here?? Hopefully all that extra weight will help balance things out. :sly: Unless of course you decide to take that extra Cappuccino out of your trunk.

I will have my lounge open around 7pm EDT tonight for some test races. Anybody that wants to get some miles on their Cappy or on the new tracks feel free to come on out! If we can get 5 or 6 people we can do some short races at some of the proposed tracks for Season 3.

My lounge is open. Bring you Capp's out for some racing and shenangans!

*CLOSED*
