Here's my older drawings. I'm working on something new now but been feeling lazy :(

The reflections are amazingly realistic! 👍

The rear of both could improve though - seems to me that the 200SXs rear wasn't finished.

Great drawings though, can't wait to see new ones if you decide to make some. :)

Tell me about it. Some people in this thread don't take too kindly to jokes, in fact they see them as personal insults

But anyway that's some of the best work i've seen in this thread, I'd love to see more 👍

How do you draw so good  ?!?!?!?

EDIT: Quoted wrong post :ouch: .

I really love the recent artwork! Hope I get to see more :)

And I just noticed that as I try to see how professionals compile their works, I start to really get a grasp on depicting more detailed and refined products. Obviously I'm not at the edge but I hope soon enough that I can shine with my pencils and color media.

Here's what I'm working on at the moment:

Of course, it isn't 100% done. I've been experimenting with shades and shadows and so far, it isn't unbelievably realistic, but I guess it's a good start. If you're wondering, the car is below a tree but I think my imagination got a tad hazy as I try to reflect that.

Good start. My advice is, unless the tree is hanging right over the car and beyond it, I wouldn't put that as a reflection as the light bounces from the bonnet directly into your eyes. Or if it was the other way around, the light bounces off the bonnet and then in a diagonal direction to the sky, or whatever is in the way in between. You probably would see a small reflection of the tree the car is under on the windshield though.

Unless you're copying from a photo (which I assume you're not), you can simplify reflections of certain things by manipulating what the tree will look like so you can get a more satisfying look. In other words, "don't make the reflection look like a tree; make the reflection look good".

not bad, some tips though:
get the proportions right on the car. I usually sketch boxes and lines as a guide but usually i just wing it and adjust it if something doesnt look right. Also, for reflections, use actual cars and reflections as a reference. Convex objects tend to bend objects away from the center, and convex objects bend in, and sometimes reflect things upside down.
For shadows, use references, and its best to visualize where the light or the sun is and try to keep the shadows consistent to where it is.

T'hah that's cute, Cano. Won't comment on proportions as you should know that stuff already. However, I like your choice of values, reflections and line weights, however I must say that you've really flattened that back wheel.

Ah, I see. I didn't really worry much about the tree itself and instead worried about it looking more exceptional. And yes, it isn't from a photo.

Huh, I'd thought I established some nice proportions on the Miata. But then again, the butt is a bit sloppy. I might consider ditching it and starting another MX5. Or may try a tooned Fiesta.

Thanks for the tips, though. I'll try to focus on that next time :)

I see. I imagined the car stationary in a forested environment while light still penetrates the leaves and branches.

Everything requires practice...

Both Knowledge and Execution matters.

Without execution experience, you can't get the finish you want; without knowledge, you can't depict things correctly.

Thanks :3 but dude, proportions don't mean a freaking thing,I mean, the headlamp is larger than the side window!! Also, the wheel looks like dat because it pokes out at the center, like the wheels in your Fiesta, only these have flat spokes. Think brushed aluminum flat spokes.

'Kay maybe proportions wasn't the best term i think I should have said symmetry.

However, proportions do matter imo, because forcefully making things large and small, stretched and lopsided, while it makes it more easily interpreted as a toon, doesn't necessarily mean it may as successful as you think.

Yes, i thought the same... it is a cartoon-ish car... it has no proportions at all.
Was about to mention this as well when drawing car-toons, proportions aren't the main focus, but you still need to get basic proportions right. For example, if one headlight is easily noticeable to be bigger than the other, then something is definetly wrong, even under cartoon-ish standards.
Here is my party!

Nice Car-Toon!

No it's not. Mster is right, you need to get perspective and "symetry" as AOS called it (if I do get what he was implying) well or else the drawing will look all wrong. Seen it several times.

In the case of my fiesta, I think he was refering to stuff like the front tires, which aren't the same size on both sides, and... well I dunno what else. He'll have to come tell us.

For the tire thing I don't have any defense, as I just noticed it lol; for things like the headlamps, I can only say to my favour that the extremely round shape of the car lends itself to surprising distortion even in pictures of the real thing, so I could exagerate stuff like the headlamps even more.

Anyway, I don't think I've shown this here:

I hope you know what symmetry is, Cano.

I was pointing at the front vent opening being lop-sided which also affected the smaller grill above with the badge.

Would have been nice to see the reflection of the hat on the windshield. Only one person was able to notice the reflection of my signature on the windshield.

It SO is there!!!

EDIT: Fffkkkkk it isn't. wtf. I was sure I had put it in there. I stopped at the roof -_-

Also, I did notice the signature reflection but forgot to mention it, lol

Someone willing to CarToon my Evo? Willing to pay/donate to you for the hi res so I can print it and display in the man cave. ;)

PM if you are willing. I'll get you a few pics and then go from there.

EDIT: just went and looked at the signature reflection. That is awesome detail.

Is it just a coincidence that I've just drawn an Evo? It's not a CarToon though:

Only part I'm not so sure about are the wheels, but that might just be me.

Your wheels are horribly out of perspective, and in general the perspective of all the circles in your drawing is wayyyyy off.

I knew that they were off, but it's a little bit late to correct it now... Going to draw another car and see if that comes out better.

Wow!!, i go away for the week (well, 5 days to be exact) and return to see some really nice pics.

DarkAvenger, that's looks great, and it's done without a graphics tab, really impressive, to me it looks like you've got a real feel for the shadows/highlights etc, you've got a far better grasp of it than me. 👍

AOS, love the Fiesta, pretty much perfect in my opinion... though i'm not really feeling the incorrect symmetry at the front , but it is a Car-Toon afterall, also, where's the side naca duct? (just nit-picking out of jelly :D) 👍

Cano, i like the Fiesta but can tell it's not the same quality as the mean & nasty Firebird you did, i think the Alpine looks much better (imo, i think that's because i prefer the actual car as well.. can't stand Fiesta's :yuck:). 👍

Thank you, after a day that i can call "Not my day", that really made me feel a bit better.

Of course it's not the same quality, the thing's a freaking Ford Fiesta that's got like 2 hours of total work in it.
