Haven't seen a photoshop render in a while. I'm in the middle of doing an R34 right now. It's been a while that I've drawn a car digitally as well!

I rarely use pen and paper anymore, just now and again. I'm starting to get used to PS but it's still a slow learning curve for me, though i dread to think how many attempts it would have took me if i were using Pantone/ graphic markers.
Looking forward to the R34 AOS. 👍

@ProjectWHaT. Cool pic. 👍 It's never easy trying to fit the drawing on the paper, i still suffer from that too.

One of the tricky things in a render for me is find ways to not make the forms feel flat without making it obvious with strong shadows. I'm sensing a bit of that in your render. I can't quite get a sense of a subtle curvature from the side window to the skirt, or the curve from one head lamp to the other. As for where I'm going with this, I guess there isn't much of a point other than sharing stuff I notice I hope would help bring to light for others.

Always draft the overall shape of the car before "drawing". It's like trying to visualize what and where it is on the paper, and then quickly laying down the essentials (i.e. outlines and major features) to help get it down into the physical world before it fades away from your imagination.

Indeed, i see what you mean. The side/skirt curvature was actually more pronounced before i added the side decal, i don't know why but the rear arch accentuated it somehow, but the effect is lost. I agree about the front too, hard to see curvature between the headlights, i lay that down to my lack of confidence with the burn/dodge tools.

I think that has to do with the perspective you chose to draw this at. I think it doesn't actually follow perspective all the way through. You may just in fact forced some flat surfaces outwards causing vanishing lines to never meet up. If you want, I can do a sketch of the car to illustrate what could've been done.

If you have the time and don't mind, that would be great. 👍
I have no intention of drawing it again, but any tips with perspective/vanishing lines are always useful.

Don't have time today. Tomorrow I'll see if I can scribble those specific parts for you, Nessy.

Here's the Skyline for now:

It's a trace of the Hot Wheels card, but it is a custom hot wheels I already made. A paintjob and wheelswap has happened.

What's left to do is to add highlights/shadows to the wheels, the lamp on the furthest side, then it's the gloss coat and the rest of the card.

No worries AOS. R34 is looking awesome.
Just out of curiosity, how many layers/separations is that at the moment? (R34 pic)

Not counting any merges I made, around 34 so far.
How on earth do you find names for them all? i easily get lost when i start to approach 20 layers, let alone 30.

Decided to do a quick sketch of the Abarth, using the HW perspective, to see how it might look. It needs a lot of work and the perspective is still quite out (maybe too fish-eye), but i may finish it.

[EDIT]

Another couple of work in progress pics, of something i started earlier. I think i'm getting closer to realistic perspective in the bottom pic.

This seems to be the perfect thread for me, I love drawing, especially cars ever since I was 3. :) I would love to post my pictures but I don't know how to.

@Castrol96 Image addresses/URLs. Look up BBcode real quick and you'll get it in no time.

How on earth do you not find names for them all? :P

It'll look a little something like that. Anything that will remotely hint at what it on that layer.

Believe me, i get lost easily when it comes to stuff like that, i end up renaming stuff similar and end up having to scroll through everything... and then find out i'm working on the wrong layer.

Comes with practicing a good habit. I rarely drawing stuff on the unwanted layer. I go for more layers in the event I need to go back to change something without having to change something else.

About the perspective thing.

Have you tried taking some simple Sketchup models and practicing with them? You can change the scenes to black/blue lines and no shading if you want to and it seems like a decent way to practice.

I haven't tried it, because I can't draw in PS, but it might help.

@Nessy hyperdrool over that red thing that looks like an old Alfa Romeo race car... or something. And as usual I love your wheels, the ones in the Fiat are amazing!

DeviantART maybe? I'm not about to go and say it's not your work as I don't care enough to search for evidence supporting that and I could have easily mistaken it with someone else's drawing. That one photo used as reference is after all a popular photo for people looking to drawing the 8C.

But I really could've sworn I've seen this exact drawing years ago... same line weight, tone, everything. :P

That aside, it does look great. The attention to value is superb.
