I may think about participating in this racing, only on the Saturdays though. I loathe practicing though, so I don't know. If I do it will be with the minimum of it, hah. I will consider it, thanks for the invite VBR.

Truly. The shorter races before the long one, will give you plenty of practice. ;) very good time and fun group. Hope you can make it. Unfortunately. I race in another series on Saturdays so Tuesdays is my only day.

Well, last night was different, but fun. I knew T1 would be an adventure but I don't remember it being quite so drastic when I was testing. In hindsight, probably not the best selection for racing but at least it shook things up and made for an exciting evening. I found the best approach was to lift out of the throttle just a little ways past start/finish and coast for a bit to let the car settle and start to decelerate, then gently start to apply the brakes while in a straight line. When I'd get it right it was like butter, but when I got it wrong............WEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! At first I was worried that the night would be a complete catastrophe but I actually had a rather entertaining time and I hope everyone else did too, even if it was a bit abnormal. Nice to see another double-digit crowd too. 👍

Car is easy to drive. I had 4kms on mine, showed up 5 minutes before the race and about halfway through the first 4 lap race I was comfortable in the car. Only hard corner is the first one. See below.

Two things helped me with braking. Going with a heavy front bias while not using full braking force in the first corner helped. And if you have a wheel, applying a little throttle helps to settle the car down under braking.

Helps with all cars actually, it's one of the ways to help control the rear end of the Yellowbird for example, as in this video with the 'Bird, with no ABS. Some of the corners are first person view and you'll see the throttle at least partially on in most of them. That's not to keep the speed up, it's to keep the back end in control. A couple of times you'll see the throttle blipping as you turn to the apex (corner 3 for example), again for the same reason. May seem counter intuitive but it works.

I learned to do that technique about a year ago, I never knew if it was a proper technique but I just kind of naturally developed it. I will often leave a little throttle applied under heavy braking to keep the weight a little more balanced. I found myself doing this a lot last night, left foot fairly planted and stationary on the brake pedal while the right foot feathers and blips the throttle as necessary. I still lost it in T1 a handful of times though, at least a couple of them were due to crossing somebody's jet wash and loosing front end grip though.......Hello Mr. Tire Wall! :nervous:

When I tested the Audi I had no problems in turn 1, my brakes were at 6/8, & I was braking & turning. I put it down to the fact that I threshold brake & trail brake into that turn, keeps the car very stable. Mind you, I tested it with tyre/fule on normal, so will have to test again with it on very fast to see what difference that makes.

I put the tire wear at "Fast".

I'm not worried, being a tried and test shuffle racer - adaptability is the name of the game. I'm comfortable in a just about everything at this point. This is not my first rodeo, haha. Thank you for the advice, however.

A good practice is to blip the throttle when braking and downshifting too, when driving with no ABS. I often pump the brakes when blipping the throttle, just a short burst of higher brake pressure, helps a lot in giving better scrubbing in speed while the rear stays planted. If only my PS3 is working now - got the thermal paste, but still waiting for thermal adhesive for the CELL + RSX IHS plate, I would have joined the race at Daytona Road, my favorite track for no ABS practice :).

The great 1st turn, I usually take it from the outside and in straight line as much as I could, like this :

The Dodge Viper GTS '02 video finally up :) The track is Daytona Road Course, the car is stock, Comfort Medium tires, no ABS, 10/8 BB. I had great time in this track, the 1st left hander is always an adventure with no ABS, enjoy !

It can probably be done with any BB when you're running around alone, but in traffic I usually default to safer settings that even if I make a major mistake with, are less likely to punish me and the drivers around me. Even then, in the first couple of races I struggled a couple of times in the first corner.

TBH, I can't feel much of an effect from BB on this car. I ran most of the race with smth like 2/9, and only had an issue in T1 when I tried to do something stupid.
I also give it gas during braking because I have this habit, but I think it's pointless in an AWD car in GT5. It makes sense in a RWD car, cause it gives you effectively more frontloaded BB.

Not sure what the torque split is on this car but if it's 30/70 it will also front load the BB, just not as much as a RWD car. It also should engage the accel LSD, which in the case of many stock cars is 40. In a 4wd that would be 40 front and rear. In theory both of those things should help..in PD world on the other hand...

The real car has something like Ver4 Haldex aw, which does some pre-programmed torque splits depending on steering angle, yaw rate etc (on top of reactive stuff). Who know's what's the 'split'. Under normal driving it's FWD, during acceleration I presume it's close to 50-50, during heavy braking I'd guess it's close to FWD.
GT5 car - no idea ;) I doubt PD programmed V.4 Haldex logic.

Upd: looking into settings it's 40-60 default, so yeah, giving it a bit of gas will make effective BB a bit more forward-weighted.

That thing probably doesn't corner half as well as a Veyron though... Or do anything else half as well for that matter.

I'd like to see Pagani or Lamborghini come along with something amazing and totally embarrass this car. *crosses fingers*

^ I wasn't terribly impressed with it, just looked like a mashup of different super cars and not nearly as zexy as a Veyron or Pagani.

I'm sure most petrolheads will still consider this the King. 👍

Apparently we have a new King. I, for one, welcome our new Venom overlords.

They need to put a production minimum number on these things. I think making a handful of cars is more like a glorified kit car than actual production vehicles. What's next? I'm making 5 of these and they go 275. Oh really, I'm making 2 of these and they go 280. Just another example of dumbing things down for the brief moment in the sun and rendering meaningless the legitimacy of the whole record. :grumpy:

On the other hand, it makes those 1200 HP hybrids showing up in Daytona Oval rooms look more legit:sly:

Sony issued a vaguely written ban warning on Hybrid accounts today. Many are reporting they've been online with them already and no problems, so early speculation is that it applies to TT's and other official events only, but who knows. A 4 year old could have worded it better.

Hybrids? Sure hope they don't cut my Mullet!

I say ban everyone and move on to GT6.

I'd take that ban but at this point, but only if GT6 is a near complete reworking of the franchise. A slightly updated rehash of this game with a couple of tweaks here and there will be very disappointing:tdown:

Update on the banning thing, by all that is holy and taking the wording literally, I should be kaput online, since I've raced nothing but hybrids (outside of here and Deadnuts) for a week and a half and have 30+ of them in my garage. But I was able to get sign in no problem and log into multiple lobbies this morning, so obviously it's not a generic ban.

I suppose that is driving the speculation that it might be report driven. That would be a rather new development, however, as there are instances where people have been reported many times in the past.

You can't base it on reports as they are too subjective. "I lost to this guy so he must be using a hybrid" won't work as a basis for ejecting people out of the game. It'll have to be in the programming for allowing entry into online lobbies or TT's, if indeed they've already banned people who did use them in the TT's.

Upon rereading I wasn't very clear. I did not intend to imply that an account would be banned simply upon information obtained from the report. I actually don't know if you can even type a message describing the reason for a report or not. I admittedly have never used the feature.

To elaborate; the manner in which it is suggested that they identify those with hacked cars appears to be the save data that is exchanged with the server signing in and out of various areas of the game. It's really doubtful they would be able to allocate the resources to examine every user's data, so perhaps the report feature would be to alert SONY/PD/TheMagicalBanFaerie to examine that particular user's data.

I would think the easiest solution would be to simply do some kind of spec check of any car that goes online. This is already done when you enter a "tuning prohibited" race. Could they not just add another layer with a couple of simple checks and balances to determine if this car, identified by this code, has this, this and this part on it?

That's too elaborate, time-intensive, and will aggravate non-hybrid users with extra load times.

That would seem the most logical, but then SONY/PD wouldn't get to punish anyone. That wouldn't be any fun for them hahaha.

Like I said in the other thread - too much work.

It was just a suggestion made in the comments of the thread by another user. I personally have no liability or concern whatsover regarding hybrids. I think it's all rather entertaining, though.
