Good morning everyone I just wanted to give a little info about myself. I live in a small town 45 Minutes west of Las Vegas Nevada. I grew up in Monterey California home of Laguna Seca, where at the age of 25 I started working as a course marshal at Laguna. Over the last ten years I have had the chance to work some very cool event, like MotoGp, The Rolex Historic races, The Coronado Speed Fest in San Diago. where I'll be in ten days, the 19,20 21 of this month.

Over the last few years I have regained my passion for Photography and combined it with my love of Motorsports. Below is a link to my photography page on Facebook, go check it out the is a little bit of everything on that page. If you like what you see hit the like button!

I hope to see a full lobby today! This mini thread is blowing up!

See you at the track!!!

I just might :sly:, but I'd better check with @IfAndOr first - he was threatening to turn up in chrome pink. It wouldn't do to come to the party in the same outfit .
Hmm, maybe. There just could be a slightly pinkish one on the grid. I might have just released my feminine side a little.

Yeah, last night was the first GTP room/event I've ever participated in. I certainly learned a few things.
I went into it completely happy-go-lucky having just tried the Mini for the first time two hours before Fergus opened the room, and didn't really change any settings between races, apart from desired top speed. It just came to me now that I forgot to alter the ride height, among other things.

I started out at Laguna being ~20-40 kg heavier than everyone else and then made a complete 180 by having the lightest car of all instead, with the weakest powered engine. Seemed to suit me better.

I think I had one top 5 finish and a couple of top 10s and that was great fun, but starting in pole at Nordschleife was a bit nerve-racking. Finishing in seventh there felt like a podium.

I believe I managed to avoid any major contact with anyone, but if somebody feels I made something wrong at some point, please do let me know. I know I went wide at Rome and became a rolling chicane for a hundred metres or so, sorry 'bout that : )
Thanks for a nice time..

Sorry I missed the races last night guys - I had trouble with the PS3 not displaying the available rooms. Very pleased to see that you had a full room - this series has really taken off and appears to be spawning Classic Mini series in other countries, which is great! If anyone wants their Mini series to be featured like FergusMiks on the GTP Classix Club thread just let me know.

Nice race Logan - and nice to hear the commentator mention Desire Wilson a few times - I've sat in the stand at Brands Hatch many times, which was named in her honour - the first (only?) woman to have won an F1 race (Aurora F1 championship race at Brands Hatch many years ago).

I remembered to save a few replays, so here are a few pics (in reverse track order).

Eiger Short Track:

BailePoint (@Mr Gear) stays clear of the first lap hairpin mayhem and pulls away as the main pack forms behind. New paint jobs from @FergusMik (yellow), @IfAndOr (fetching pink), and me (Tangerine Scream).

They hung in the air in much the same way that bricks don't...

Still well ahead; it must be the new paint job!

Smokin 'em up out of the hairpin, desperate to get a good launch over the bridge...(I think that's Goofy @Team_SWE_1 hot on @LOGANHEAD831 's tail, with @JockeP22 hanging in)

Nice pics Woodski, thanks. 👍

Hello Everyone,
We had another great evening of racing last night, our room was full almost throughout, thanks again to everyone who came out. :)

I would however like to address a few things and remind everyone again about keeping our races clean. We had some occasions of too much contact, especially on a tight track like Eiger with 16 Minis fighting for their positions.

1. Please respect the person in front of you when they are heading into a corner, more often than not they have the right of way for their racing line. On a few occasions while watching the replays, people were trying to overtake on the inside when they should not have been. When in doubt, brake earlier. These cars are fairly evenly matched so what may look like a possible passing opportunity in a corner, may not be one. Please be sure.

2. Bumping from behind. Pay attention when following others closely from behind, they may brake earlier than you, so be prepared. On the other side of this, if you find someone is a little quicker than you and there is room, let them pass, especially on a straight.

3. Bumping someone off the track. If your actions cause someone to go off the track, be a gentleman (or lady) and wait for them to regain their position even if it means others will pass you. (Most of what I am saying is outlined quite clearly in the "OLR" and "The Good Racecraft Guide"). It is not acceptable to scrape yourself against another car in a corner to allow you to make that corner, especially if it sends that person off the track.

I would encourage everyone to review their replays (try and save them if you remember and are able) and watch yourself race. Ask yourself if you are being a clean racer, are you trying to beat someone in a corner when you have no business doing so, things like that.

One other thing is the excessive use of horns. Please only use your horn when indicating to the person in front of you, that you are attempting to pass. A couple of quick honks should do it. (Not everyone has a microphone on during the race, I typically mute mine and try to honk if I'm overtaking.)

We have some experienced online racers in this group who I'm sure can add some pointers to this. We can also learn a lot from them by watching the replays, I know I have and I continue to learn more each week.

We all want to have fun each week and enjoy our Minis, and it's not always about trying to come first. I have thoroughly enjoyed some battles in the middle and back of the pack. :)

Thanks for your attention,
Mik

Nice racing last night everyone!!!
The mini group is really growing. We have so many talented drivers out there. As with talent come competitiveness, and some over eagerness to get to the front or your normal running order. With the reversed grid it is a challenge that Fergus has built in for competition. It was not put in to encourage aggressive driving it is to test skill...

We must all remember to respect our fellow drivers... There may have been some overly aggressive driving last night we are assessing replays from suspect races. I'm not going to point any figures at this time.... Because I am guilty of it at some times. I do know with racing come some unavoidable contact but like I said last night late when most people had left...

It is the responcability of the passing car to make a clean safe car. I would be glad to explain the hole theory in a lobby sometime.

I hope that this will help relieve some of the frustration from last night and in the future.

Safe racing and drive flat out!!!

Nicely put Mik.

Points well made I think.
We're all guilty of "over driving" and or "mistakes".
We all want to win, we all want to be better racers.
My best race last night was not the win, but the 2nd race at Laguna.
I started in 15th and fell to 16th on 1st lap, I finished 12th.
Why was this my best race?
4 clean overtakes and no mistakes. ( I hope. maybe the replay will out me)

Thanks for a good night overall guys.
