CLASSIC RACING Sundays 17:00-19:00 GMT: "Ford Ferrari Wars" LEX CHAMP by 1 Point!Finished

One Reserve Driver slot available for Sunday 14th September!

We now have 16 Regular Drivers - Harsk is absent (due to PS3 problems) and I am not aware of any other absences therefore we have a space for 1 Reserve Driver for Sunday. The space will go to the first to contact me.

If any Regular Drivers expect to be absent on Sunday please let me know as soon as possible so that your slot can be offered to another Reserve Driver.

Category 1 and 2 Cars Clarification

I have amended the second post of this thread, but to clarify:

The Category 1 cars are the:
Ford Mark 4
Jaguar XJ13
Ferrari 330 P4
Chaparral 2D

For those Drivers who are short of credits these alternative cars can be used:
Cobra Daytona Coupe - painted Mountain Green
Chromeline Cobra - painted Mountain Green

The Category 2 cars are the:
Shelby Cobra 427 - Painted original white with blue stripes or Cirrus White or Metropolis Blue
Chevrolet Corvette C2 Race Car
Cobra Daytona Coupe - painted original blue

The Corvette C2 Race Car is very fast, but difficult to drive. The Cobra Daytona Coupe is expensive 4.5m credits. Either of these cars can be swapped with a Chromeline Cobra which has the same top speed, but produces a slower lap time. Unless Drivers fall into the "Expert" Category (such as Flaco, Pimiki, Kisko and Harsk) they are advised that they may be faster (due to less accidents) if they swap their C2 Corvette race Car with a Chromeline Cobra.

I will allow people to swap from the C2 Corvette to a Chromeline Cobra after the race meeting on Sunday 14th September if they wish.

Not everyone was able to attend the test day on 7th September, therefore I am expecting a small amount of confusion regarding cars - if so it may be necessary to shorten the races by 5 minutes. If we are able to get started on time and encounter no problems we will run the race programme according to the original programme.

Good luck everyone and if you are a Reserve Driver who wants that vacant slot on the grid contact me as soon as possible. The second person to contact will get the next vacant slot if one arises.

Sick. I'm so annoyed I'm working this Sunday. I would have love to have got the last slot. I will be available next Sunday 21 if there is any space.
I'm trying my best to stay in Cat 1 with chaparral 2D, mountain green Cobra Daytona and hopefully a Ferrari P4 ( still to buy).

Thanks for introducing me to classic racing. Much more fun than the moderns but so tricky to control.

Stop Press!!! - " vacant slots available for Reserve Drivers!

There are now 2 vacant slots available for Reserve Drivers - they will go to the first drivers who contact me.

I clicked on the video, but it said "not available in my country". Thanks for posting though rehdogg. Enjoy this video of a race start at Goodwood -only about a minute long, but some great cars!

Really? That's really strange since it's the Goodwood Revival (which is in the UK, isn't it?) Anyway, great video! It should build the hype for tomorrow's races :P

Watch this video everybody to get you in the mood for sundays racing - it is the story of the race in my earlier post told by Chris Harris driver of the Lister Jaguar which started 4th on the grid - what a superb video from Chris Harris as always!

I see, there's a list of what to drive! ;-) In my defense I've been in Norway without any connection whatsoever for the most part and got home just a few minutes before the race! :-) congratulations to the win Lex! :-)

Fun races, especially the first one since it was the one where we all were close to each other. I messed up big time in the second one though , but it was fun still. Also, congrats Lex on the triple win (I couldn't see SmileyWRX so idk if he won one of them?). Anyway, looking forward to next week!

That was a little surprising. I was doing 1'41 laps in my P4, but could only muster 1'44 in the Mk IV. So today, in my MK IV, I started with a 3 second collision penalty, then I either left the track or spun out 9 times, and finally, I ran out of gas. Still, I finished 5th. Wow.

Does anyone have decent tunes for the Renault or Caterham? My Renault won't stay on the road, and my Caterham just doesn't want to drive.

Great meet today everybody. i had a few mishaps and hope no one was affected to greatly, I made a few rookie mistakes as well, like pitting too early in my P4 and having to make a second stop with one lap to go. I was looking a pretty good result until then. I need to practice on worn tires.
it looks like this is going to be a great series Sick, the BSCC results were well mixed and the main event will be closer on our tighter courses as well.

Great Sunday Classics, great races.
Race 1 Mini was great but could not catch LexLathor in V8, just tooooo fast
Race 2 to many mistakes so could not follow LexLathor, he was consistent and fast (nice combo mate)
Race 3 got big bump from the behind at the first corner then slowly recovered and then attack loool but could not catch LexLathor

Lex mate congratulations again :):):)👍👍👍

Maybe someday will catch you :banghead: :)

You had more bad luck than me: Already in 1st round, I was leading the field but made an huge mistake in the pits! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I actually had 4 victories in One Make (I denied Lex's victory in OM of Trial Mountain)...

What was your biggest mistake?

My biggest mistake was driving an Jaguar in Brands Hatch while I had an spare Ferrari!!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I bumped your rear in the first corner of the main event, but from the replay it didn't seem to mess you up. Sorry.

That's where I dropped from 4th to 15th! Eventually, I clawed my way back to fifth--even though I drove like a helicopter.

I need to stop driving like I'm doing time trials and stop taking risks.

Biggest mistake was late braking and then spin or off track... :grumpy::ill: touch grass and off lol.
In the meeting of today, right?

My mistake which I talked with you, I didn't do for intention: I did it because in that time, I doubted if the Ferrari 250 GT was faster. Moreover, I was the first driver which left Jaguar. In Ferrari Cobra Wars, did someone apart from me leave the Jaguar and change to Ferrari?

Why is Lex Lathor with #78 number instead of #1?

What happened to IfAndOr? I thought that he would put pictures...

Nice ones, Jbaffoh! 👍

Above and below BSCC race start - Lex Lathor already out of camera shot!

BSCC Start 1 (1).jpg

I ran the Renault 8 at Daytona Road with Sport Soft front tyres and Race Hard rear tyres which made the handling more predictable and increased stability on the brakes, but probably at the expense of lap times.

Ford Ferrari Wars - Tuning Prohibited - A recreation of the period when Ford were at war with Ferrari internationally and Chevrolet domestically.

1st - Lex Lathor - Jaguar XJ13
2nd - SmileyWRX - Ferrari 330 P4
3rd - Sick Cylinder - Chaparral 2D
4th - Bergele - Ford Mark 4
5th - Whispercrew - Ford Mark 4
6th - Flaco - Cobra Daytona Coupe (1st in Category 2)
7th - Racercad - Ferrari 330 P4
8th - Pimiki - Corvette C2 Race (2nd in Category 2)
9th - Tony Lomas - Jaguar XJ13
10th - Danielsspel - Cobra Daytona Coupe (3rd in Category 2)
11th - HVainOla - Shelby Cobra (4th in Category 2)
12th - Rehdogg - Shelby Cobra (5th in Category 2)
13th - Maximusmonster - Corvette C2 Race (6th in Category 2)
14th - IfAndOr - Chaparral 2D - Retired
15th - Emotional Rekz - Ferrari 330 P4 - Retired

Daytona Road with its fast banked turns put the low geared Shelby Cobras at a disadvantage. Lex Lathor and Flaco scored class wins. Smiley put in some very fast lap times. I only just finished the race after putting a small amount of fuel in at the pit stop hoping for an advantage - I don't want to cut it that fine again!

FFW Start.jpg

Above Lex Lathor judged his start to perfection, which is very difficult on the steep banking at Daytona and put his Jaguar into the lead passing poleman Smiley driving for Ferrari. The 3 speed Chaparrals were very slow off the line and were swamped by the Category 2 cars, but gradually regained positions picking them off under braking or on the banking.

Caterham Cup - Max Tune - A tribute to the Lotus 7 designed by Colin Chapman in 1957 and a mainstay of amateur motor racing ever since.

1st - Lex Lathor
2nd - SmileyWRX
3rd - Flaco
4th - Rehdogg
5th - Maximusmonster
6th - Sick Cylinder
7th - Pimiki
8th - Bergele
9th - Tony Lomas
10th - Racercad
11th - Whispercrew
12th - IfAndOr
13th - Danielsspel

To save time the Caterham Cup is run without a qualifying session and this week was a reverse grid based on previous race finish result. It will alternate each week between reverse grid and non-reverse grid.

Apologies are due to Smiley and anyone else who was hit by Sick Cylinder at the start - despite being the host I forgot that the Caterham Cup is run without qualifying and lost concentration thinking that it was a qualifying session and that the setting to qualify alone had somehow switched to qualify together like it did last week and was thinking about how to reset and therefore missed the braking point. A brief, but enjoyable race which bodes well for future rounds. Below first corner of the Caterham Cup.

Next Round Sunday 21st September at Silverstone International at 17:00 BST

I thoroughly enjoyed the races last night. Manual gears were a success! I even managed to get pretty quick starts with them.

The BSCC race was great fun because of the differences in the handling of the cars. The Buick was clearly more powerful but trickier in the corners. I started well, went wide on one corner and half a dozen minis and a couple of renaults swarm passed me. So then it was a matter of staying tight in the corners and creeping past people on the straights, including pipping Sick to 7th place over the last 100 yards after some good close racing.

The FFW I found more difficult. Again, I thought I started well until I spun out. When I rejoined the race I was in the middle of the category two cars. I completely misjudged the speed difference and braking zones and hit both H-Vain0la and Rehdogg15 (Sorry again). I waited and gave them their places back, but it was kind of pointless as I went passed them anyway on the straights, so all I can do is apologise and try to drive better next time.

The Caterham's was another lesson in consistency. I ended up on the well oiled grass in lap two and did a couple of nice doughnuts before rejoining at the back. Luckily (or unluckily) a few others were finding the grass too so I 'overtook' them. Then on the last lap I was closing down on Racercad and caught him just before the line in a similar manner to my pass on Sick earlier.

I'm no where near as quick as the front runners (well done Lex on winning all three events) but it's a massive improvement on my Bathurst Sunday where I came stone dead last in all three racers.

Great choice of cars and races Sick! Looking forward to next week. :)
