Championship 4 edit:
  • Set tyres to Sport Soft, change required for all three endurance races.

What about a race which begins with rain? If I'm not wrong, we never had rain in a championship race, apart from a couple of laps of the Nurburgring but with 0% of water on track. It should be good fun, especially if it dries out and strategy becomes crucial.

I agree, sport soft are probably too grippy, but it makes for closer racing. At least this was my experience in GT5 on online lobbies(too early for GT6).
Surely an harder compound favors skillful drivers/well balanced cars, in simple words it widens gaps between "packages" (driver + car). But if our focus is to have fun, I think we should try to keep the gaps as smallest as possible, for side by side racing.
Obviously the best package is expected to win anyway, as it should be. But hopefully, in a more... eventful way.
Also, the fact that we'll be forced to use a different compound (an harder one, I guess) helps to show which of the packages is the best when the grip decreases.
Maybe we can do some testing without boost before we decide.

As usual, this is just my opinion and I'm fine with everything.:)

A good point, marco! 👍
Close racing is indeed the most fun...

Marco actually you're right, sport soft makes room for late braking and avoid some unexpected mistakes but for whatever reason I tend to avoid grippier tires. But yes fun factor is what we're looking for so sport soft is ok to me.

Cheers

...so I've edited the endurance races accordingly. :)

Yep, I'd love to race with you guys :) How many players participate on average?

Nice, and noted on the rooster. Welcome!

On average, I'd say we've been six or seven drivers. At best we've been a "full" grid of twelve, but then we had a Group in the old forum and didn't do much advertising. We're more exposed here, so let's hope we can keep the number of starting cars a two digit number for each race in this championship. :)

I've saved and watched the replay of our test race with tyre switch, and I've noticed that there isn't randomness on pit-stops. Unfortunatey, I would add. I've lost the position because there was another pit crew ready for the tyre change just before mine, and my car (driven by CPU) hesitated a bit. That cost me a few seconds, I'm almost sure that the actual tyre change time is the same for everyone.

A couple of doubts about the mandatory tyre switch that we should check:

-If someone makes the stop but doesn't change compound, what's the kind of penalty that the game applies, if there is one? It disqualifies you? It adds time after the race ended?
You've got a few seconds to switch compound after joining the pits, and since you've got to manually switch it (the selected option is the one you're using, if I'm not wrong) and probably choose the amount of fuel to add, to select the wrong compound it'll be a very easy mistake.

-In F1 the rule is "at least 1 complete lap with each compound". In GT? If the finish line is after your spot in the pit lane, you can just enter the pits on the very last lap, switch to the harder compound and cross the line. In this way you've used the softest tyre for the whole race, but "officially" you've used the other compound too, even if only for a few metres.

Aww... That's too bad! It would've been awesome if there was a little bit of gamble in the pit stops. :)

Yes, we need to test disregarding the rules and see what happens. My guess is a time penalty.

It would surprise me a lot if GT6 had that fidelity in calculating the rules, but... 'ey! Let's test it and see. ;)

When tuning is allowed I guess Nitrous is forbidden anyway, am I right? Or we could use it as a kind of KERS ala F1 for more strategic variables, your call Vuja

Plus when you say Older than 1990 for American cars race I reckon you mean cars manufactured before 1990, isn't it?

Thanks!

Hi Fellas! I've got here, seen the posts. Looking good! I'm excited. So, and forgive me if I'm asking questions that have already been answered, but has a day for race 1 been decided on yet?

Another question - in a 'no tuning' race I joined recently, I couldn't enter in a car that had been tuned, even though I'd taken all the tuning parts off, and the car was standard. Is this usual? I ask because I'd raced my Dino previously at 500PP which involved tuning - do I have to buy a new one?

Looking forward to the races, guys :)

Hi Least. It happened to me too, check the ballast bias. It's weird but even if you've got no ballast the game identifies that car as tuned if it hasn't the bias at 0.

This subject gives me the opportunity for a complain; now you can remove some tuning parts which weren't removable in GT5, such as weight reduction or engine stage 1/2/3. Great, now you can turn your fully tuned car into a completely stock one in a few seconds, even if you're in an online lobby. And you're no longer forced to buy a duplicate for each car, one to be tuned and another one to be maintained stock.
Good! But then you realize that custom parts can't be removed, you have to go back to main menu. You can remove a weight reduction in one second, but you can't remove a rear wing, or a flat floor. Even aesthetic parts (engine cover on the Aventador, headlights on the MiTo) turn a car into "tuned".
I can't understand the point of that, that could have been a little but really appreciated step forward from GT5, but in this way it's like they've done 90% of the work. Appreciable but still incomplete.

I'm in for today.

I assume for the first two races, we are allowed to give an oil change and paint the car?

Well, I'd be in for today if it was happening. Sure, why the hell not? Might as well get this championship rolling. And I'm not convinced by elen's 'need more practice' line. He'll be as fast and as hard to pass as ever :) Who won championship 2, eh?

I've hardly seen anything of TAK online, but I've seen speed around, he's always good to have present. DADY - not seen at all. But then I've only met up with elen once, and Ush once for about 20 mins. Both were good sessions though. So, today or next week, either way I'll be there. Haven't done ANY laps in the Countach, only had a couple of brief races with Vuja in the Dino. It's one of those car and circuit combinations where getting the last 1% out of the lap time becomes a bit stressing, as the car is totally on the edge, turning for nearly the whole lap, and any slight error or missing of apex drops you metres and metres from the opposition... good ol' GT, eh?

Vuja must be busy. I guess his lack of response means it's not going to be tonight; there's time to hit Brands Hatch in the Lambo yet! I'll probably be on tonight anyway (If I can tear myself away from building a massive, grandiose beach-house in Minecraft with my 9 year old daughter). I'll look out for you fellas.

I´ll be there too. I have time now, before my daughter´s born :) i imagine doing that with mine, Least :). At least, the Minie´s Chandler i already put in her room. I hope to see many of you there. I´m so off pace...

Hahahha

Good one Least, actually is the track/car combinación. It is quite intriguing why sometimes we feel more confident with one specific car or track, misteries of life.

It was good fun yesterday, I quite liked the Qualy experience and I have one sugestion.

Award Pole Position with 8 points or similar and start races on Reverse Grid so that slowers start first.

If we are clean throughout the race it will make for exciting races.

It seems Elen's friend will participate on the championship (ToniXC), he will be welcomed for sure, the more the merrier.

Cheers

Sabotage Ush´s trottle sounds perfect, but i propose one more thing, Ush has 1 minute penalty, because he´s using Plane petrol, and we are using 91 Oct petrol :)
And one more thing, he must use the "Caterham 2014 nose" in all cars he´s using lololol.

Now, for real. As allways, Least and Ush are truely fast, and i need to practice a lot :)

And, about Toni, he is very fast and clean, a good element to join us.

Ush, you still driving with Wheell right?

Cheers

Edits:
  • Added dates for all races. Next week, Wednesday night... Be there! :)
  • Added preliminary Nitrous information for the races.

Hey, guys!

My apologies for being a bit absent and not able to attend.

I've been thinking about that, but I I've not raced anything with them.
All stock races will be without, however.
For the endurances, we can do a bit of testing of what's more fun before making a final decision.

And, yes, Age<1990, i.e. 1989 or older is what's eligible in that race. :)

Yeah, Least, it can be a bugger finding the final setting that's stopping you from entering. For all my cars that can enter stock races, I've named Setup C: "Stock" right after I've bought them. ...

... Because, as you say marco; some alterations can not be made from the lobby. The only one that can not be undone as far as I know, is the pit service Improved Frame Stiffness.

With my "Setup C: Stock" label, at least I have a little help in remembering what cars can enter stock races.

Are we racing today? Championship Day 1?

Sorry. :(

I'm in for today.

I assume for the first two races, we are allowed to give an oil change and paint the car?

Yes. As I've tried clarifying in the regulations, there's no performance limit in the stock races. I usually set it a point or so over the oil change maximum so all drivers can see where their car should be, but it doesn't limit the cars' performance.

Just asking actually, not sure about the exact date but I think I read it on a previous post, maybe next week.

Post updated.

I remember the Tsukuba race in Championship 2. That was indeed a tense affair and one of the best virtual races, well, ever! Everyone has to keep the car at 100% the whole time, and it makes it so difficult making up time there when you lose it. Excellent fun!

That sounds like an excellent time sink, Least. I mean, when's a beach house finished anyway? :P

Aw... elen, you're just being modest. Your consistency is still way up! ;)

Thanks for helping out! :)

So will this be happening next week?

Edit: If anyone here is interested in a tournament (possibly with prizes) that would be great, we are quite low on interest right now. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...renalin-tournament-may-include-prizes.296453/

Prizes! I'll edit in mine, if they still work. :nervous:

Nice racing last night, gents. We need to sabotage Ush's handbrake or something though :)

Nice that there was a session, even if I couldn't set up the league race. And, uh-oh... I seems ushu's his old self. :D

Sounds good!
Who is Toni, someone that should be up on the roster?

Edit: Languaging is hard.

Yep, there will possibly be prizes proved by me (depending on the number of people interested), They will be some PS3 games that I own (that I have either finished them or I've stopped playing them)

:dopey: And I'm not quite sure what you mean by "I'll edit mine in", are you having prizes for this league as well?

You don't have to at all, but if you do, that's fantastic!
Not expected by me at all.

My donated prize is added to the Championship 4 post. :)

Any practice sessions planned for the next couple of evenings? I'd be happy to put in some Brands Hatch laps in the Countach Anniversary, with some company - makes it 16 times more entertaining :)

I will try and get some additional practice in tonight, too - but I was on last night, I will definitely be on tomorrow - might have to give it a miss this evening in order to keep relations with the wife on a civil footing :)

I was reasonably quick at Brands Hatch in the Countach anyway, so that's OK - and I've basically given up on the concept of catching the wheel users for he Dino / Tsubuka event (Ushu/Vuja/others?). Some cars really appreciate the finest of gentle, analogue touches, and these cars respond well to a wheel. I just cannot keep up with you fellas. I don't know - maybe over 30 laps I'll realise that I have a line through a certain part of the circuit that isn't good, but to me my line seems fine, but I just drop back, only a bit, but lap after lap. Seems the Dino really appreciates just the right amount of throttle out of the bends, and a tiny amount of trail braking on the way in. It's hard to be consistent with the DS3 when you are moving the sticks 1/4mm :)

Whereas the Countach seems a much more 'digital' car. Brake in a straight line, chuck it hard at the apex, stomp the throttle to tighten the line slightly - bingo. Suits me, I hope.
