Very sorry I couldn't race and sorry
Very glad to hear Flaco will be back - we were short of Willment's at the front.
I won't be able to post photo's of the Cobra Coupe race as I forgot to save the replay!
Race Impressions and Results - Round 5
Truck Race - Circuit de Madrid (Chevrolet El Camino)
I normally use the bonnet view for online racing, but on this car the camera is in the wrong position so gives the impression that the truck is much wider so you lose time driving in the centre of the track (hopefully GT7 brings adjustable interior camera position so I can use that competitively) - I switched to the bumper camera, but this gives no reference to the vehicles width and consequently every so often I clipped the barriers. I tried chase cam at Sierra, but I find that view very disorientating. I think I qualified 5th and got away fifth - there was a log jam at the first corner and all the cars seemed to come to a complete stop in their efforts not to hit each other. I don't remember where Pimiki qualified, but after that corner he was racing in an uncharacteristically low position. Congratulations to Eran on an outstanding 2nd place - he was in a class of his own last week on the rally stages - I can see a promotion from Silver to Gold looming if he maintains this form! I was holding a reasonable position, but there was a traffic jam of drivers behind. It is hard to pass at this track if the driver in front doesn't make a mistake, but I slipped wide a few times and was passed by Pimiki and IfAndOr.

Avon Tour of Britain 1973 (Camaro, Lancer, Alpine)
The cars seemed very evenly matched on this track, but with the Alpine possibly having a slight disadvantage - the cars were well mixed up on the grid. I knew that the torque of the Camaro would enable me to get a good start and sweep past some of the faster drivers in Alpine's and Lancer's and this was the case. I had spent more than usual time on gearbox settings, with a high first and second gear and the other ratios closely spaced. On the first lap I was up with Rehdogg and Lex Lathor and thought I could get past Lex like Rehdogg. Lex was in the Mitsubishi Lancer and Rehdogg and I were in Camaro's. Lex seemed to have slightly more speed and acceleration and I had a fraction more speed on the corners. He didn't make a mistake and by the next lap he and Rehdogg were pulling away. I was holding 5th position for a few laps and wondering how long I could hold on as there were a few cars close behind. Rehdogg made a mistake and suddenly I was 4th, but a long way back from the podium. Rehdogg recovered his position then inevitably Pimiki and later Buybon worked their way past. It was easier to hold an accurate line in the Camaro than the El Camino and easier to judge the width as it has a good bonnet view.
It would have been interesting to race the Cobra Coupe's at Madrid, but they are very high geared and probably wouldn't get out of 2nd - I was only using 3rd gear at Monza! - maybe in a future series with tuning allowed.

Cobra Coupe Shootout (Shelby v Willment v AC A98)
I found this track very frustrating - I couldn't work out how the short cut penalties work - It would be helpful if there was a track map showing the penalty areas - sometimes it seemed to be just a wheel on a kerb got a penalty sometimes two wheels over the kerb and off the track no penalty. During the first qualifying lap I drove conservatively to get a time and no penalties. On subsequent laps and during the race I seemed to pick up penalties at random with no idea where I had actually transgressed and it was frusttating to see other cars not getting penalties, but appearing to take less conservative lines. I found it a frustrating race for that reason - I don't actually like the track, but included it and others that I don't like for the sake of variety and accuracy. There were big gaps between the cars and few opportunities to overtake and consequently a rather dull race in these cars - perhaps a better track for cars with varied performance so that one can gain on the corners and another on the straights?

No connection or visibility problems this week - could this be due to people switch to Project Cars and therefore reducing the load on the PD Servers? If anyone here had a PS4 and Project Cars I would be interested in reading an unbiased review. I probably won't get a PS4 until GT7 comes out, but it would be interested to hear the thoughts of someone I trust (i.e. you lot).
Sorry to lose Maximusmonster (Nonka) due to family and home improvement commitments. If anyone can tempt
@SmileyWRX back to us or some other drivers please do so - ideally I would like us back up to full strength before the start of the next series.
Next Round 6: Trial Mountain Race 1 & 2, Nordschliefe Race 3 (Cobra Coupe)
