TOTAL RACE DAY IMMERSION.

Without cockpits.

1000 Hz physics sample rate... wowzers.

Definitely won't be a competitive game, at least for me, but it will be fun.
I agree 100%. We have been through this a million times with the GT5 standard cars. Now if they want to say this is more of an arcade racers, thats perfectly fine because it is. You cant claim a game has real "simulation" or real "immersion" without a cockpit view. PERIOD!

For the people that even try to argue this..... Dont make me pull out the pic of the guy sitting on the bumper of his car again.

So, another page of whining about an arcade racer that isn't a sim.

Grid 1 was not a sim, but somehow you're all upset Grid 2 isn't? I don't get it.

If you want a sim... build a gaming PC and buy them.

Yet another post of you whining about whining.

It's not just about the physics, it's about the whole game. You can have a game with unrealistic forgiving physics but a great realistic game setup with real cars, real tracks and real racing rules. The older PS1 TocA games are a perfect example, handling was not simulation by any stretch but the game itself was very nicely set up with realism in mind.

GRID 2 looks like it's going to have none of that, slidey unrealistic handling AND a not so realistic approach to anything.

It's GRID 2 not TOCA and no one at CM said anything about realism.

But, I will adjust my previous statement: Another page of whining about an arcade racer not being realistic...

What bums me out along with the lack of cockpit view, is the lack of licensed racing cars. It's going to be primarily muscle, exotics, and drift. Nothing says real race day immersion like not having any racing series cars on Spa. Instead, it'll be drifting exotics. They do that all the time in real life at Spa, right? Right?

And you know this how? I take it they pulled you aside and told you exactly what they are putting into the game, right, otherwise how would you know this?

That's what Codemasters used to do. Proper BTCC racing with decent enough physics, cockpit view, full weather, damage, championships, real tracks, real racing with pit stops etc. Really sad what they've turned it into. :(

ToCA 2 and ToCA World Touring Cars were my favourite racing games on PS1.

Imagine what they could do with it now.

BTCC
Clio Cup
Ginettas
V8 Supercars
WTCC
DTM
STCC (Scandinavian)
Super GT

All in one game with all the relevent tracks and a career mode spanning the lot. It'd be amazing. Sadly we'll never get that, we get GRID 2.

First post from you I actually (mostly) agree with. TOCA was a great series of games, you could always expect a challenge, but that was back when not so many people were into video games. Today's gaming market is a lot bigger and so are the costs. Imagine how much each one of those licenses will cost, and consider the amount that Codemasters has to pay for the Formula 1 license, as well as track licenses and any other assorted thingi-mabobs from the Dirt series. I really don't blame Codies for trying to make one of their games more accessible to casual gamers and less realistic, because they've got to make the money back somehow. The F1 (anyone noticed they've particularly put the emphasis on trying to get people into F1?) and Dirt series don't sell brilliantly compared to other games, and considering we live in a economic environment where no measurable profit can be devastating for a company, I really don't have a problem with Codies making one of their flagship games less realistic and more fun when it was geared in that direction anyway, especially when you consider the number of Sims coming out next year anyway which could seriously drain from their profits if they were to steer GRID in the 'realism' direction. If they were doing this to the F1 games, then yeah, I'd be hitting the roof too, but they're not, so there is nothing to complain about at least until it is much closer to the release date and we know much more than we do now.

If someone really good at art/photoshop could make that screenshot in today's graphics I think it would look sensational.

Just a random thought.

Its simple: All of Codemaster's current franchises aren't done by the exact same group of people. While this might be under "Codemasters Southam" as Dirt 3 and Dirt Showdown were, its not the same people. Hell, the guy you see in that 50 minute conference isn't even same leader from both titles.

Ya, I am pretty sure it is the same studio; I remember the lead handling designer from Dirt 3 interviews.

I should rephase that as team, but thats about the only guy from the Dirt 3 team as far as I can see. Paul Coleman isn't there, Tim Dearing isn't there, Only Gehan Pathiraja.

Might wanna check the Credits and rethink that statement :)

This isn't really the ToCA series anymore though. Just Race Driver.

👍

When Codemasters is done with Grid 2 then give us a proper ToCA 4 with a proper story. Actually I wouldn't care if they just gave ToCA 2 a visual update and added some cars and tracks. The story was excellent, you really felt like you were a race driver. I never did in DiRT (I did in Colin McRae Rally though), I never did in their F1 games, I did a little in GRID because of the way it was built, but that's it.

I just hope GRID 2 can keep me entertained until Codemasters realises they're about to make the same mistake as EA did with NFS. Sometimes I wonder if game companies ever look at what they used to have success with.

"immersion"

I'm beginning to cringe every time I hear someone use this word in relation to a videogame. I play my fair share of games. RPG's, racing games, action/adventure games, fighting games. You name it. The amount of complaining I see about a relatively minor detail that is apparently "immersion breaking" is unreal. I briefly joined the Codemasters forum last year and found some user complaining about how some detail was "immersion breaking". He then mentioned that he plays on one of the easier difficulties in chase cam with all aids on. Including the virtual racing line. Now obviously some people aren't as good at games as others, but you wouldn't think that someone who needed the game to basically hold his hand in order to play it would be complaining about something so inconsequential.

Next he'll be complaining about how the lack of liquid nitrogen vapours really spoils his enjoyment of "Han Solo: Millenium Falcon Pilot"

[/rant]

Imagine how much each one of those licenses will cost

I'd wager that it wouldn't cost very much. Some of the series mentioned are relatively minor and could do with the exposure that comes with featuring in a major game.

This is all I want as well. But I don't think it will happen. I just liked how you would almost play out a real race drivers career, formula fords to touring cars etc. A career isn't buying a production car for 20,000cr, putting a stage 3 turbo on it and winning races.
I really like how pCARS is looking though, looks like we'll get the TOCA style career I'm looking for

You might want to reread my post as you missed my point. I didn't say the same team that worked on Dirt 3 wasn't the same one that worked on Dirt Showdown, I was saying that aside from Gehan (and now to my discovery, Clive Moody), the team that worked on Dirt isn't the same one working on Grid 2. Pretty sure that team is working on Dirt 4.

And Tim Dearing....and Iain Smith...oh...and Toby-Evan Jones.....

Glad I found out about this. I would have been pissed if I bought it and lucky for them their games are DL only because I would have filled it with dog shiz and send it back.

Exactly this!

I loved the LMA football manager series they used to make..after LMA 2007 came out, they said that they were giving the series a years sabbatical..and they havnt made any more since!..i wish they brought it back!:(

Are Codies shooting themselves in the foot?

Possibly..

Are 'hardcore' gamers/enthusiasts of whatever the game is about being shafted?

Possibly. But that's because it's less profitable to make games dedicated for a small segment of the market. There's more money to be made in appealing to a wider audience. Unfortunately, that's how it is.

WRC 3 seems to have catered for a niche market quite successfully - though I agree that more profit is what is probably driving the CM machine nowadays.

I don't know what's hardcore about carrying over a feature from the first game into the new one.

I think what is being refered to is that Grid had a good 'cockpit' mode, damage model and reasonable physics. To be truthful though, I've not kept up with what has been discussed recently on this thread; but the first has already fallen by the wayside...so less hardcore.

Liquid meant this is being made for a wider range of people not the hardcore gamers who like more realistic graphics, physics etc. Wider range = A more arcadey game.

Double post but it has been over a month..

New screens from the last few days showing new cars.
