Gt5 was good at first but now it's seasonal event one after another, I was hoping for more instead of a revamp of gt4, hopefully gt6 is good but as far as I see it ill buy this and give it a ago till gt6 or something better comes out, but I think it will be a good game despite all the people putting it Down and not having cockpit.

*snob game developers*

GRID 2 announced the same day as GT6. Would be funny. And Codemasters would go out of business.

No they wouldn't because *GASP* Grid is not their only franchise; pretty sure they have been doing pretty well with F1 and Dirt... I find it hard to believe CM would suddenly go out of business because another 80% previous gen port was released by PD... But.... so it goes with the opinions of fan boys.

And seriously? Complaining about an arcade racer not having sim physics is pretty dumb.

I don't. Why doesn't it have more realistic physics? I rarely see anyone playing GRID now. Why not? Everyone's bored. Well, why are they bored? GRID offers no immersion. You don't feel like you're driving a car. You feel like you're driving a dog on a wet floor.

Uh, because that's kinda the point of an arcade racer... And it was released in early 2008 which is probably why people aren't playing it very often. I don't know any people who are playing games that came out 4 years ago, especially games in the arcade racing genre because those are a dime a dozen nowadays.

So, the value of a game is how new it is? I still pop in Forza 2 for some good racing, from time to time, or Race Pro... (Yes, I have a 360 and a PS3.)

Because the following the games that came out ever since:

Forza 3
Dirt 2
F1 2010
Shift 2
GT5
Forza 4
Dirt 3
F1 2011

Just a realistic suggestion.

Arcade racers are generally aimed at people who just like fun, not necessarily people who like cars. For those people, they get a game, enjoy it and the next thing comes along and they're off playing that. So yes, for many people the value of a game is how new it is. These new games also have a lot of features the older games do not.

For people like us who are actually interested in cars, we get more from the games than just the racing. Like you said we can go back to Forza 2 or 3, or Race Pro, or Ferrari Challenge (I own a PS3 and 360 as well) and still appreciate what they are because we love cars. Hell, I still play GT Legends, Grand Prix Legends, GTR 2 and others because of the things I enjoy in those particular games.

Basically what you're saying is everything needs to be realistic right? Call of Duty is the most popular game franchise of all time. Apparently Infinity Ward were wrong in making it though, right? CoD is very arcadey and unrealistic and something like Arma II is the proper way to shoot virtual fools. Problem is, CoD and Arma appeal to two different types of gamer in the same way arcade racers and sim racers appeal to two different types of racing gamers. Sure there are some people who overlap and like both (I'm on of those people) but in general arcade racers aren't meant for the hardcore simracer and to act like that is a fault is ridiculous. All my opinion, of course.

Quit acting naive. There's no way in your 7k+ post history, in less than six months..., that you don't have the experience to tell the difference between an arcade racer/sim title and the improvements that 4 years of game development and hardware advancements bring.

Just a suggestion: If you don't like arcade physics then stick to GT5, or you know.... Maybe an actual sim... instead of coming in here and throwing a GT5 fan boy parade.

👍👍👍

Regardless of whether you do or don't like the game (even though it is nowhere near release), the fact of the matter is that GRID 2 will sell by the boatload, as there are a lot of people who enjoyed the first one and they'll be many people who want to try out racing for the first time. Despite the crash-fest it may become online, a minority of new racers may want to progress up the scale to a sim-racer, which is always a good thing, no matter how few that number is. It's how I got to games like rFactor, through GT and GRID in fact.

That's fortnightly seasonal events coming out almost two years after release still. Codemasters dropped Grid online without warning, same for DiRT, though I believe D2 and D3 servers are still available.

Online with like-minded friends or in a group is still very much alive for GT5 though. I'm also not sure I follow what you mean by GT5 being a revamp of GT4 - no seasonal events in GT4. Anyway, the core style of GT hasn't changed that much throughout - what exactly were you expecting?

Anyway, back on topic. I know all the footage is still alpha stage but really, the Chicago race didn't really look that much different from the original game. I suppose we'll have to wait and see closer to the time.

All these comlaints tell me one thing: WE ARE NOT THE TARGET AUDIENCE.

It will be targeted to new, or novice, players. We, sim racing lovers, are not many enough to make a game for. If you look at the last 5 or 6 years of codemasters games and the change of name, they are trying to make mainstream racing games. That meens the focus will not be realism.

It's a shame but we can do nothing about. If we don't buy this, many mainstream still will and it will probably be a succes.

Bleh!

I'm under the impression only two pieces of footage (one of them looking exactly like its from the same replay shown during the Codemasters interview) isn't really enough to judge it quite yet. Of course for me, the real judging with any racing sim/game comes in actually trying it out be it in closed BETA form or public demo form.

It's sad how Codemasters have gone from producing pretty good, fairly realistic BTCC/WTCC & rally games to the totally arcade style DIRT and GRID games.

Ahh the good old TOCA days on the PS1!

The TOCA and the Colin Mcrae games on the PS1 made codemasters my favorite developers back them but my opinion on them has changed dramatically after DIRT2 and F1 2010.

I did enjoy GRID a lot tho, loved the career mode especially the customization of cars livery and the le mans 24 (minutes) at the end of every season.

There is this one as well; not sure if it has been posted but oh well.

Edit- And this:

Mr. Melancholy, I have a question for you. Not to be rude or prodding anything, just for reference.

Simply put, how much of GRID 1 did you play?

As for Gehan, listening to him is like listening to Tanner Foust to me. Act like a race car driver, talk like a over-enthusiastic engineer, come of as a bit of a jerk(for lack of a better term).

Got more than 1000+ Gamerscore... then GT5 came out, and I wondered why I had ever bothered with the original GRID.

Nice job on the Gamerscore.

OK then, why was that? Just a preference to GT sim-style, or something about GRID that turned you off of it?

Admittedly, the AI was way too dim-witted on corner entry (and would smash me into a wall with full damage & 0 Flashbacks,) but GT5's AI is worse; I just don't have to worry about totalling the car. "Well, now you're a spectator."

The main difference is the physics, correct. I also didn't like starting my career in a very expensive Mustang. That's a mistake.

Just checked VVV's channel and that is the most recent, so expect more soon. I quite like Alan's style of reviewing as it tends to give a fair, no nonsense appraisal.

So we shall see how G2 will look/shape up probably sometime this weekend.

I think Codies going sim or simcade won't be a smart move for Grid seeing as there is alot of competition ,Arcade seems like the wise profitable choice here.

But the original was arcade and that was fine. Why do we have to drift around every corner? I think they should have kept the original handling physics.

Yeah, yeah, I know that problem. If they improve that in GRID 2, it'll be off to a good start.

Agree with the starter as well. I think they should have started you out in the demo derby car.

OK, Thank you for answering my questions.

I love the way people through around sim and arcade (and the new 'simcade') terms as if they're universal terms to describe a racing game.

TOTAL RACE DAY IMMERSION.

Without cockpits.

1000 Hz physics sample rate... wowzers.

Definitely won't be a competitive game, at least for me, but it will be fun.

So, they're making a Need For Speed game on a closed course. "Truefeel Racing System."

They're going to create more crashes, but make the physics system easy for anyone to pick up and use.

The thing is, though, racing isn't easy for anyone to pick up and do. It's hard to get a car around for a lap, let alone set the new fastest lap time, and use the consistently fast lap times to beat someone else.

In case you don't want to watch the whole thing:

- Incredibly impressive live damage system. I suggest seeing that for yourself (@23:00) Relationships with manufacturers gives them free reign over damage; as long as driver and roll cage stay intact they can do what they want.
- 1000 Hz physics rate.
- LiveRoutes System, live route modification (race route changes lap to lap in the background) to increase
difficulty and replay value.
- "Lots and lots of leaderboards"
- RaceNet integration with upgrade aimed at Grid 2, (stats, etc.)
-12-16 Multiplayer, "more if we can."
- 60 parameters determine AI skill/personality.
- Truefeel, pick up and play handling.
- Red Bull Ring.
- No dynamic weather.
- Tight lipped on car list, but "all bases covered."

Sounds good enough. Has it's pluses and has it's negatives like most games. Aslong as it has similar tracks to last GRID with a few more displines could be fun enough... Afterall this game is really meant for fun ;).

One my mate was hoping for was weather though.. Nevermind he can live with it.. (I remember him talking about/hoping for stuff like a wet Bathurst race and pit stops so you can heal damage.)

Well, it could be a fun action racer indeed, at least this time they don't try to make it look like a simulator. Also, again: No boost is great!
