Who cares about licenses 2012?

It´s codemasters of course it´s arcade what do you expect.

The most horrid part of GRID was the real world tracks and the WTCC cars or what it was. Ugh...

Yes it's codemaster, yes it's arcade I know.
But this grid 2 looks like dirt showdown not grid 1 .

And the things I enjoyed the most in Grid 1 was the 24h du mans, some real racing cars ( wtcc, lmp ...) and all the real tracks ( spa, nurburgring, ...).
So yes I care about licenses :).

Sorry about my bad english :nervous:.

I'm completely lost on this. Its gonna be arcade, but it won't have assists. Isn't that sorta not how an Arcade racer works?
Assits allow you to change the game between somewhat realistic settings (if the physics engine provides those) and (very) arcadey handling. Not having assits means that what you're seeing now is what you get.

And going by the video my room mate showed me just now, with cars drifting around every corner and stuff, it just looks as realistic as Mario Kart. I mean, Grid wasn't known for its realism or anything, but from the looks of it, even that was far more authentic that Grid 2.

Oh, so he was reffering to those assists.

"Will I be harassed to upload a YouTube video after each race?" But seriously, those people were annoying in DiRT 3.

Spoted a few new cars.. Focus amoungst the Alfas, Nissan 370Z in the Skyline, Camaro etc and Merc SL in with the Mclaren etc. I'm unsure if the Koenigsegg is a new spot.

Still lacking alot of race cars though :(.

Well, neither the ''gameplay'' trailer or the four preview videos that Alan (TeamVVV) posted on YouTube piqued my interest. I think ''stylish piece of rubbish'' is a perfectly reasonable description of the game and what to expect.

Not sure no assists will will go down well for people without wheels. I use a ds3 and I know its possible to race with no assists I have done so myself on gt5. But most of the time i use traction control because throttle control isn't that easy with triggers. I cant use the analouge stick because my brain says no to using both sticks lol

Its not a sim.... so it won't be like driving in a semi-sim (gt5) without assists. There's just one driving model that the developers have chosen to use for the entire target audience.

Watch the video.

Atmosphere looks great to me. Not everything needs to be 100% realistic.

If you're an elitist sim racer... 1) the game isn't for you; 2) you're in the wrong genre.

I've gotten used to using the X button for throttle control. It can be done, but it takes frustraiting amounts of practice to really nail it.

I'm loving the vibe I'm getting.

Then again, all I care about in Codemasters' games are the 'fun' aspects.

Why use X for gas? That's like going back to PS2 games. The triggers are way better than X for racing games.

Tire smoke doesn't nessisarily mean drifting, as in GRID 1 it was easy to get the tires smoking, for me anyway. That said, they do have to appeal to those who are wooed by shiny things, bright colors, and loud noises.

As for the preview, did he NOT play GRID? No, it wasn't adaptive, but I seem to remember the C5-R and C6-R feeling different, and the touring cars, and the Koeingseggs...everything. What were the "artificial" assist? ABS, TC, and Automatics may not be in all race cars, but they exist. Also, we have the R35 and you recycled the R34?

OK, you guys win. I surrender unconditionally to your rants. As of this moment in time, I have nothing to look forward to. I tried to keep faith, but as it has for 23 years, Faith, Fate, Luck, and Destiny have once again converged to destroy my hopes.:(

Yes thats what I mean it took lots of practice and I think the average gamer who buys this thinking its arcade will trade it in pretty fast. I hope they release a demo so I can see if I can acctually drive decent lap times.

Because I go all the way back to PS1 racing games using X for Gas (and various old game systems using s similar layout). So to some extent, I'm abit old school like that

Personally I think the car list is VERY lacking.

I was kind of looking forward to this. I enjoy both sim and arcade and like to have a copy of a game that does both well on hand at all times. I just don't think Grid 2 is going to be it. It should be a fun rental tho.

If only Criterion would make a sequel to Hot Pursuit...

Is that it?

Seriously is it? I see myself driving about 4 of those. Quite a shame really, but I expect Codemasters to release week 1 DLC, and more every so often.

that's all that has been confirmed so far. I'm sure there will be more.

Also, ya, there has already been talk of DLC.

Finally, the guy who creates the series said something to the effect of, "quality over quantity" when it comes to car #'s in game.

Meh.

When all the cares behave the same that means nothing.

And I will not buy this until there is the complete edition.

Who said the cars behave the same?

News to me.

As far as the car list... its only what is seen in trailers... like its a surprise the list is short at this time.. lol.

We're just now starting to see a steady flow of videos, game-play from VVV, and the game is still months from launch...

Well the first game didn't bring out a lot either (50 I think?). I guess it's not a franchise where we can expect a catalog of cars, and where gameplay is the main selling point.

Graphics look ok to me. It's definitely not on the realistic side with the textures and lightning as are GT and FM, but for an arcade it looks good.

You missed Ford Focus and Toyota GT86, there may be more I hope..

Edit: Spotted a VW Golf R in VVVs GRID 2 preview part 3.
