Tonight is the night for all those awards to be handed out. More people are probably looking forward to the Heisman Trophy Presentation on Saturday. I'll probably (likely) miss seeing the Heisman live on TV. So in that case, congratulations to the eventual Heisman winner.

As for non-NCAA FBS action, playoffs are going on in FCS, Division 2, and Division 3. I'm pretty sure there will be televised coverage once the championship games are on. Of course, just wait until the 2014 season comes along when the nation's best four FBS will vie for the National Championship playoff-style.

D3 ... Go Mount Union 👍. 15 mins. from my house, I'll be there on Saturday to watch the Purple Raiders take on UMHB in the National Semi Finals.

Mount Union ... 180-7 since the beginning of the 2000 season. Pretty tough D3 team. UMHB is 139-20 in the same stretch. Pretty good run as well.

The Purple Raiders -vs- UMHB

I want Klein to win, then Manziel, then Te'o.

Te'o was 2nd, before he walked out with a forest around his neck. I understand it has meaning, but there's a time and place. No African-American winner comes out in their traditional African headgear...

Yay!

Congrats on being racist. 👍

Yeah, I actually regret that. I'm just not a big Notre Dame person and I guess that slipped out. His interview on stage moved me a lot actually. I would go take that down, but I don't think I deserve to.

I also did not know much about his story either. I feel awful.

On a lighter note, I just watched the 30 for 30 on Bo Jackson. I had never heard of him and now I have no idea how that was.

I saw that segment, thought the commentary was pretty funny.

Sincerely apologize for my earlier comments and for being ignorant about Hawaiian culture 👎.

And your Heisman winner for 2012 is... Johnny Manziel! Congratulations to the Texas A&M quarterback. First Freshman to win the Heisman (he's a Redshirt Freshman). It just seemed like some sort of meteoric rise for this guy to go from a nobody to a somebody. "Johnny Football" for the win.

Elsewhere...

* Navy still owns Army in football. It was a 17-13 victory for the Midshipmen over the Army Black Knights. I really think the Commander-in-Chief rivalry between Army, Navy, and Air Force really has no winners- they all are. These are the men and women who defend this nation and put their lives on the line to do so. Army is still a sorry football school. However, Army and Navy are both winners regardless of whomever wins the Army-Navy game. What is it now... 11 straight wins for Navy over Army?

* The SWAC Championship was on the line between the Jackson State Tigers and the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. UAPB won in Overtime 24-21.

* The FCS playoff game between Georgia Southern at Old Dominion was pretty physical, but the Georgia Southern Eagles were too much against ODU and ODU's amazing quarterback. I thought this game could have gone either way to be honest. It ended with a 49-35 victory for the Eagles over the Monarchs of Old Dominion.

* The Bison of North Dakota State won themselves a low-scoring game. NDSU beat the Terriers of Wofford College 14-7.

* Blue turf- works for Boise State. Red turf- what the bloody hell were you thinking/drinking, mates? Anyhow... Eastern Washington's Eagles soared higher and farther than Illinois State's Redbirds. EWU won on their unspeakably ugly red turf 51-35.

Here locally, I'm proud of Sam Houston State beating Montana State in Bozeman, MT on Friday night to the tune of a 34-16 victory. I often times cheer on Sam Houston State. I also cheer on Lamar University and (sometimes) Texas Southern as far as FCS schools are concerned.

What round is the FCS in now?

And a question: are FCS players eligible for the Heisman?

@CAM

Yes, they are. Steve McNair actually finished third when he was QB for Alcorn State in the 90's.

Technically, any NCAA college football player, Division I, II, or III, is eligible to win it.

D3 playoff action. The local guys from Mount Union came back from a 14 point deficit to take out UMHB (University of Mary Hardin-Baylor) by a score of 48-35. Mount Union now improves to 14-0 on the season and advances to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the eight straight season.

Congrats to the Purple Raiders.

I respect Mount Union College. The past few years, it's been Mount Union and/or Wisconsin-Whitewater for the D3 title. Only other powerful (or at least talented) teams I know of in NCAA Division 3 are Ohio Northern, Occidental College, Trinity (of Texas), and Millsaps College among others. And as a fun fact... Mount Union was the alma mater of my Houston Texans' first head coach, Dom Capers. Ah, yes- Dom Capers and David Carr. Humble beginnings.

On the D2 level, I normally am a fan of Michigan's Grand Valley State. I also like teams like Tarleton State, West Texas A&M, North Alabama, Valdosta State, and Tuskegee. Slippery Rock is a cool team, too.

Does it seem like most teams only care about non-FBS teams when it's playoff time? It's much like some only care about college basketball when March Madness comes along. Still, we need to entertain ourselves some sort of way before all the Bowl games happen.

The University of Houston will begin demolition of Robertson Stadium in order to build a more modern, state-of-the-art stadium in place of it to be opened in 2014. I've only been to two football games in my life, and one of those was at Robertson Stadium as I saw UH take on Southern University. This was back when Case Keenum was under center for the Cougars. I think UH will play their home games at Reliant Stadium while their new stadium is under construction.

No postseason action for the Houston Cougars... they finished 5-7. If there's one non-BCS Bowl game I'm looking forward to, I'd love to see the Cotton Bowl matchup between Texas A&M and Oklahoma. This one would be a glorified Big XII South match if TAMU were still in the Big XII. But of course, it's "Johnny Football" (some are even calling him "Johnny Heisman") going up against the Oklahoma Sooners. I think this is a game where Johnny Manziel proves people right in him getting picked to win the 2012 Heisman trophy.

The Bowl game fun begins December 15th. You ready for Bowl Season?

Tulane is doing the same thing. I would think the board would wait to see if they could break 4 digits in attendance before they broke ground on a stadium...

Today is the first day of the Bowl games in NCAA FBS. Many people a care more about the big one between Notre Dame and Alabama, but this is always one of the coolest times of the year if you love college football.

Enjoy the Bowl season, and good luck to your team(s) if playing in a Bowl game.

Bowl Season continues tonight through Saturday. I wonder who thought it was great to have a long-named Bowl Game, but tonight is BYU vs. San Diego State in the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (San Diego, CA). Friday in St. Petersburg, FL is Ball State vs. UCF. Saturday has two matches: East Carolina and Louisiana-Lafayette will clash in the New Orleans Bowl. The MAACO Bowl (Las Vegas, NV) will see Washington take on #19 Boise State.

This covers the upcoming matches.

The Wisconsin Badgers have announced a coaching change. Meet new head coach, Gary Anderson.

Andersen was officially hired as the Badgers’ new coach Thursday, and will be formally introduced at Friday’s news conference. He replaces Bret Bielema, who left the Badgers for Arkansas this month. “I don’t know if I can really have a word for how excited I am to be at Wisconsin and have this opportunity,” Andersen said in a video on Wisconsin’s website. “I know I’m humbled, I know I’m blessed.”

Just to share, here is a look at the University of Houston's new stadium. This site features renderings of what UH's new football home will be like:

http://www.houstonfootballstadium.com/

I like this stadium. Only once have I been to Robertson Stadium. It was a game between Houston and Southern that I saw. This stadium in the works looks like a top-flight stadium for a BCS conference team. Heck, I'd wanted to see a stadium like this if Houston were admitted to the Big XII long ago rather than settle for Conference USA. Any more sophisticated of a stadium, UH would probably have something similar to Reliant Stadium. This new stadium is set to open in August 2014.

I am proud for UH on this deal. What they REALLY need to do is either renovate Hofheinz Pavilion (UH's basketball arena) or start playing some of their home games at Toyota Center.

Nice stadium John. Hope 'ya win a lot of games there. 👍

Onto the subject of winning, did S.D. State give BYU a win in last nights Poinsettia Bowl ? I think so. Fumble, fumble, interception, interception, interception .... geeez ow !

We look like straight crap so far.

I'm embarrassed. This Big East recruiting needs to start soon cause I hate watching our defense.

14 points in 15 seconds... I like.

We are not a comeback team, which makes it all the more surprising we got a 28-7 deficit to a 31-31 tie.

You win the game if you don't spot them the entire first quarter. Piss poor.

It was 43-34 in New Orleans as the Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette took down the East Carolina University Pirates (sorry, CAM) in the New Orleans Bowl. 28-26 was how much #19 Boise State beat Washington in the Maaco Bowl in Las Vegas.

Games before these two:
* In the 619, BYU beat San Diego State 23-6 in the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego back on Thursday.

* The Beef O' Brady's Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida saw UCF smash Ball State 38-17 on Friday.

The next Bowl game will be on Monday in the Aloha State as Fresno State and SMU collide in the Hawaii (or Hawai'i) Bowl.

I am back and guess what? Alabama is back in the national championship. What did i tell ya'll. I might have got notre dame and oregon backwards but i was still right. Espn has done a simulation and this is their score: alabama-21,notre dame-20. If notre dame can barely win against pitt how can they win against bama?

So should they just crown Alabama the National Champ and not play the game? I hate fans like this who always claim that they are right.

Notre Dame arguably played a tougher schedule than Alabama did. And even if it wasn't tougher many of the strength polls put their schedules about even in terms of difficulty. And remember Notre Dame was undefeated during the season, that takes skill and talent no matter how you look at it.

Pat Forde wrote a pretty good article back in November comparing the teams' schedules. If you're interested you can read it here:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--sec-rout-of-notre-dame-far-from-guaranteed-205348035.html

I wouldn't rule out Notre Dame at all.

Im not saying im right im just saying that i said that alabama would be back in the national championship and they are. You were there and you quoted my posts saying that i was wrong and that i was typical bama fan and you know i said that alabama would be back in the national championship. I want to see a good gam and it will be. It is just that everybody is saying bama. If you dont believe me watch sportscenter and college bowl show or whatever it is. Roll Tide Roll!!!

Of course everyone is saying Alabama. ESPN always hypes up the SEC. Oregon blew it and so did Kansas State.

That is because it has dominated the bcs. There was a rumor a few years ago that they were going to put in the playoffs if the sec was still winning by a certain point in time. We all know that is not true but still. I have friends that at the beggining of the year were wanting a non-sec team to win this year.

Watch for the Big 10 and OSU Bucks next year. ;)

If OSU doesn't dominate the Big 10 next year there's a problem. The Big 10 has gone from a powerhouse to a bunch of really mediocre teams save for OSU.
