One of two big tests for the Houston Cougars was tonight at Central Florida, and we failed. 19-14 victory for UCF. This was for 1st Place in the American Athletic Conference- both teams tied heading into this match for the lead in the AAC. Now, Central Florida may have inside track on a BCS Bowl Game.

It doesn't get any easier next for the University of Houston- AT Louisville next Saturday. So while I still don't have any realistic expectations for U. of Houston football, this loss at UCF hurts for the Coogs.

38-17 'Bama. I was expecting a closer game but, 'Bama just kind of ran away with it. Literally. We had over (I think) 170 yards of rushing. So, two easy weeks then the final test... Auburn.

Its starting to get simple for OSU. If the polls have them behind Stanford, there is almost no chance they will be in the Championship game. If they remain ahead of Stanford, then either an FSU or Alabama loss at any point for the remainder of the year (assuming OSU wins out) will lock them into the Championship.

But the thing is would the BCS choose OSU over a one loss Bama? Not sure about that one loss FSU more likely. But that's just me & it doesn't matter what I think cause I'm not in charge. I'm so glad this is the last year for the BCS. :)

A FSU or 'Bama loss will be mighty helpful at this juncture. Otherwise, you are correct ... no chance, outside looking in.

Come '14 Blitz24, you'll get to see first hand what it is like being in the B1G. It is competitive up here, often looked down upon simply because a team from the B1G with 2 losses is not a worthy competitor.... into the high teens - 20's rank. Prime example - the game between Michigan and Nebraska (Legends Div.) had very high implications this weekend. It was somewhat overlooked because they were not ranked teams, they were both (2) loss teams. A (2) loss season coming out of the B1G is a pretty damn good year, but unfortunately not quite good enough for the big time. The B1G needs to get a little more on the competitive side of things to get them back on the map and earn so notoriety. It will get there, in time, I hope. Until then, we just buy our time and rely on some help in climbing the ladder.

A 1 loss team jumping over a 12-0 Buckeye team is a very distinct possibility. It can't be ruled out. After all, we are talking about the BCS ... 👎

X2 on the last year for the BCS. It's a joke, always has been a joke, always will be a joke. I'm not just saying this from a Buckeye standpoint either. There have been several years where the BCS has locked somebody out, simply because they are of a lesser division. God forbid your from C-USA - The Mac - The Big 12 or any other division that the BCS does not take a liking to.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Just some ramblings :

#4 ? OSU Buckeyes... or ... #3 OSU Buckeyes ? We'll see later tonight what the BCS has to say about week #11. The Bucks were off this week, getting prepped for that final stretch, hoping for that big bid.

With the aid of 3 punt returns for TD's, USC rolls over Cal. 62-28.
Bo Pelini's Huskers went into Michigan with one thing on their mind ... Win. And that they did 17-13 over the Wolverines. Nebraska making a push for that B1G Championship Game ? I think so.
Pitt over #23 Notre Dame ? Naaaaah, uuuum, yep. 28-21 Pitt.
#24 Wisconsin is making their bid at that B1G Championship Game as well. Badgers 27-17 over BYU.
#25 Texas Tech has now lost 3 in a row. Kansas State rolls 49-26
Unranked ? (but should be) Minnesota in a BIG battle beats Penn State 24-10. Who seen the Golden Gophers sitting at 8-2 at this point in the season ? A B1G sleeper team who is in the hunt.
#8 Missouri continues to impress. 48-17 over Kentucky.
#9 Auburn is keeping their hopes alive. They roll over Tennessee 55-23
#11 Miami has now lost 2 in a row. They fall to Virginia Tech. 42-24
#14 Oklahoma State is keeping their hopes alive in the BIG 12. The Cowboys lasso the Kansas Jayhawks 42-6
#19 UCLA is still hanging on on the PAC 12. 31-26 over the Wildcats of Arizona.
The Washington Huskies made themselves Bowl eligible by pummeling Colorado 59-7. Congrats Crash, your in the Bowl scene.
John's Houston Cougars took a tough one on the chin this weekend. #21 UCF just did get by with a score of 19-14. The Cougars are still sitting good at 7-2 and very much alive for that AAC Title. Here is hoping John.
CAM's East Carolina Pirates put on a show against Tulsa. 58-14 Pirates. E.C. is sitting pretty (7-2) at that #1 spot in C-USA (East Div.) Keep it up.
#1'Bama, what can you say ? Still playing some impressive ball. They took care of the visiting #13 LSU Tigers 38-17 to hold on to that #1 ranking.
#2 FSU continues to make a bid for that #1 spot. The Seminoles handle the Demon Deacon of Wake Forest rather easily 59-3

As much as I don't "the" Ohio State they should be ranked third. I know Stanford beat Ore. but they have a loss to a bad team

Stanford didn't jump even Baylor in any of the polls. That probably means that Ohio St. will be 3rd. Top 4 teams are undefeated.

Yeah, they (Stanford) lost to Utah. Which "could" be the saving grace for OSU.

I saw on ESPN College Gameday yesterday where they "tentatively" put OSU up into the #3 spot. We'll see in about 2-1/2 hrs. when the new rankings come out.

If by chance we do get the #3 ranking, we will have to play our nuts off for the remainder of the season .... hard. One miscue, one team hanging with OSU giving them a run and it might just be over for the Bucks.

Here is what is left :

@ Illinois (3-6)
@ home -vs- Indiana (4-5)
@ Michigan (6-3)

No ranked teams to aid us in our bid. We have to smoke the rest of the schedule.

3 TD win in each save the Michigan game (they COULD be ranked by the time their game rolls around).

One can only hope that Michigan can get ranked before we play them. I just don't see how they can. Although it would be somewhat of a help.

Michigan remainder :
@ Northwestern (currently 4-5)
@Iowa (currently 6-4)
@ home -vs- OSU (currently 9-0 ... "should" be 11-0 by this point) The bitter rivalry game. Michigan will pull out everything they have, including their cheerleaders to get in the Bucks way. I've seen this scenario unfold a few times between these two teams. With this game being in the Big House, it will also be an aid for Michigan.

E D I T :

BCS rankings are now out. OSU has moved up into the #3 spot

Hey... I'm sad the Cougars lost at Central Florida, but I'm still modestly hopeful we COULD take down Louisville. If the Coogs drop this weekend's match at Louisville, you may as well give the American conference title to either UCF or Louisville depending on who finishes better.

Here is a little obscure standings update. Let me show some love for some other schools. Some of you may even be fans of these schools I'm about to discuss:

! = currently undefeated

--- NCAA FCS Rankings ---
(as of: November 11, 2013)

01: North Dakota State! (9-0)
02: Eastern Illinois (9-1)
03: Eastern Washington (8-2)
04: Sam Houston State (8-2)
05: Fordham! (10-0)
06: Maine (9-1)
07: Montana (8-2)
08: Montana State (7-3)
09: McNeese State (8-2)
10: Towson (8-2)
11: Coastal Carolina (9-1)
12: Northern Arizona (7-2)
13: Charleston Southern (10-1)
14: Southeastern Louisiana (8-2)
15: Youngstown State (8-2)

21: Delaware (7-3)
22: Jacksonville State (8-2)
23: New Hampshire (5-4)
24: Wofford (5-4)
25: Princeton (7-1)

I know somebody on GTPlanet loves the Bisons of North Dakota State. I do, too. NDSU would be pretty awesome on the FBS level should they step up to NCAA FBS. My favorite FCS school is Sam Houston State. Glad they're doing well.

--- NCAA Division 2 ---
(as of: November 11, 2013)

01: Minnesota State-Mankato! (9-0)

22: North Carolina-Pembroke (7-1)
23: North Alabama (6-2)
24: Newberry (8-1)
25: Tuskegee (8-1)

Wow... no Grand Valley State? No Valdosta State? North Alabama way down the order? At least to me- this has to be one strange season. As I was learning of NCAA D2, Grand Valley State was always the truth. GVSU in Division 2 is almost like Mount Union in D3. Speaking of which...

--- NCAA Division 3 ---
(as of: November 11, 2013)

01: Mount Union! (9-0)
02: Linfield! (8-0)

20: Ithaca (8-1)
21: Wheaton (Illinois) (7-2)
22: Lebanon Valley (8-1)
23: Franklin (6-3)
24: Maryville (Tennessee) (8-1)
25: Thomas More (8-1)

I usually think Ohio Northern is pretty good in NCAA D3. Other schools I'm aware of in NCAA D3 are Amherst and Williams. One of my sentimental schools is Washington University (St. Louis, MO) because my brother once went to school there. Only real good school I'm surprised not in the Top 25 is Occidental College. The Tigers of Occidental are usually pretty good.

Finally, if you're into NAIA schools, here is one last Top 25 poll for you:

--- NAIA Football Top 25 ---
(as of: November 11, 2013)

01: Cumberlands (KY)! (9-0)
02: Grand View (IA)! (10-0)
03: Carroll (MT) (9-1)
04: Baker (KS) (9-1)
05: Morningside (IA) (8-1)
06: Saint Francis (IN) (7-2)
07: Missouri Valley (7-2)
08: Ottawa (KS) (8-2)
09: Benedictine (KS) (9-1)
10: Faulkner (AL) (8-2)
11: Rocky Mountain (MT) (8-3)
12: Tabor (KS) (8-2)
13: Northwestern (IA) (7-2)
14: Georgetown (KY) (6-3)
15: Lindsey Wilson (KY) (8-2)
16: Sterling (KS) (8-2)
17: St. Francis (IL) (7-3)
18: St. Ambrose (IA) (6-3)
19: Friends (KS) (7-3)
20: Peru State (NE) (7-3)
21: Saint Xavier (IL) (6-4)
22: Dakota Wesleyan (SD) (7-3)
23: Cumberland (TN) (6-4)
24: Langston (OK) (5-4)
25: Bacone (OK) (7-3)

The NAIA is something you only know of if there are any actual NAIA schools you know of.

I tried to incorporate all kinds of college football back when I normally did the college football threads. So I hope you enjoyed this little diverse piece of material here.

Wow, I have been to the University of Cumberlands in Kentucky. I never thought they would be any good at football because they are right in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful campus though. Also, UNA(University of North Alabama) what happened they are supposed to be a division 3 powerhouse. Well, their band is still amazing.

Tonight could be huge for Northern Illinois. The Huskies will host Ball State, whom has (in my view) the ugliest-looking Cardinals logo of any college team.

Upset alert ?

At the half / Ball State 24 - NIU 20

EDIT :
Final just in. NIU 48 (now 10-0) Ball State 27. NIU cranked it up the 2nd half and walked away with it.
Congrats to NIU on hitting the 10-0 mark, cool, just so cool to see a MAC team doing this.

FSU star QB Jameis Winston is under investigation for Alleged Sexual Battery. This case has just been re-opened. No charges have been filed as of yet.

It was 48-27 in DeKalb, IL as the Northern Illinois Huskies defended home turf against the Cardinals of Ball State University on Wednesday night.

Here are some of the many games coming up shortly...

THURSDAY:
* Georgia Tech at #8 Clemson
* Marshall at Tulsa

FRIDAY:
* Washington at #13 UCLA

(SOME OF) SATURDAY:
* #12 Oklahoma State at #24 Texas
* Houston at #20 Louisville
* Iowa State at #18 Oklahoma
* #3 Ohio State at Illinois
* Cincinnati at Rutgers
* Florida Atlantic at Southern Mississippi
* UAB at East Carolina
* #23 Miami at Duke
* Syracuse at #2 Florida State
* #16 Michigan State at Nebraska
* Florida at #10 South Carolina
* #1 Alabama at Mississippi State
* #4 Stanford at USCal

Speaking of Florida State, QB Jameis Winston is part of this possible scandal involving sexual assault. Maybe this is something to screw around his brain much like how the dispute of Cam Newton was racking his brains when he was in college. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Thing is, J. Winston has a huge distraction right now with this alleged trial.

Other than that, enjoy this weekend of college football and good luck to all of your teams this weekend.

Seriously need to hurry up with a 4-team playoff. Ohio State has won over 20 straight games. How does a (presumably) 24-0 team not deserve to be in the championship?? I would love the opportunity to see the buckeyes play either Bama or FSU, and I would also like to see Bama/FSU play each other. This could be solved so simply. Super frustrating bro...super frustrating

Of course right now if all of the top 5 win out TWO undefeated teams will miss the championship game, and one of them will not even get a top 4 ranking.

Which is a huge issue in my humble opinion. But in OSUs case it will be TWO STRAIGHT undefeated seasons. Even in a conference that has lost a bit of it's former strength, that is no small feat.

Time to toss around the pigskin for another Saturday of college football. Good luck to all of your teams.

Not a whole lot of exciting top 25 matchups this weekend. Nebraska vs MSU could be interesting. I'm also going to go out on a limb and call Georgia over #7 Auburn, hopefully enraging the tigers enough to unleash hell upon the tide in the iron bowl :)

Update: Embarassing performance from the Ohio State defense allowing 5 TDs by the Illini, however Carlos Hyde made up for it with 246 rush yards and 5 TDs of his own. What do you guys think, is allowing a team who has not won a conference game in 2 years to score 35 points bad enough to let Baylor or Stanford jump them should they win out? I hope not, and I think the 22-0 record should carry some weight, but I have to admit the bucks D is not on the level of some of the other top teams

Was sitting in the student section in the UGA-Auburn game. I've never seen Jordan Hare get that loud before when Lewis caught the game winner. WDE :)

Central Florida and Louisville were two big tests for the Houston Cougars. And after tonight, we failed both of these tests. Worst of all was that Temple couldn't hold off UCF as UCF won on a late field goal. But like I said before, I have no real expectations for the 2013 Houston Cougars. We ended up losing 20-13 at Louisville.

Congratulations to all other winners, including (but not limited to): Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State, Kansas (snapped 27(?)-conference game losing streak), Auburn, and others.

DOWN GOES STANFORD!

USCal wins 20-17 hosting Stanford. This just in. I saw most of this game as I returned home after being out with my family. Everybody else in the Top 5 won, so Stanford's fail is going to shake up the Top 5 of the BCS rankings. Sunday should be REAL interesting as far as the next slate of rankings is concerned...

That's a huge boost to Ohio State (and presumably Baylor), but if somehow Oregon gets placed in front of either of them then the entire rankings are a sham. OSU now does not need to worry about a 1 loss team beating them if they run the table.

I'll bet that was incredible. Worst defense I've ever seen...very unfortunate for Georgia but congrats if you're an Auburn fan. Now please just take down Bama so Ohio State can play FSU in the championship. OKST is likely to move up the ranks a bit though, possibly into the top 10 so if Baylor can beat them they may end up leapfrogging the bucks :/

That makes up for Murray's run on 4th and goal being called a touchdown. It was pretty obvious he was at least 2 feet short of the goalline. *When* Auburn beats bama in 2 weeks, I have a feeling Auburn will jump a fair amount of teams and especially if they win the SEC. Ohio State is in a good position, but their schedule strength isn't helping them. I have a feeling Baylor or even Auburn would jump them. FSU is pretty much a lock unless they lose. Of course, the BCS is very unpredictable. The playoffs can't get here soon enough in college football
