This thread is just stupid, to OP: Ignore the stupid people (not aiming this towards any poster) and drift your way. Drifting and car control is personal preference (spell check?) and you should never be told that you are a bad drifter because of your tires, camber settings and so on. the beginners of drifting always ask "best car to drift with??????" "whats the best camber settings omghaxlol??????"

JESUS GROW UP, if you want to drift on a random server with slicks, go ahead, just follow the regulations of real contests if you are competing seriously. There is no optimal settings, it's all about personal preference, I like my cars grippy (no I'm not drifting on race or sports) because it is easy to find the limits, but I'm not going around telling people that its THE way of drifting. I know alot of people who whoops my ass with totally different settings, try EVERYTHING out, play with each variable until you find something that you like and by the time you are done, you will have developed your own flavour to the art of drifting. Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong, hate me or whatever. I'm not telling the truth, because there is none, this is my opinion. I love you GTplanet guys and I hope to see more of you in the lobbys! <3

These are the reasons I use comfort hard tires. (I drift with a wheel) And most of this is opinion.

1. Speed is more realistic. (this goes out to awd drifters who don't freewheel the front diff, and set 10/90 to blast through the turn powersliding and have the front tires pull them out.)
2. Speed is matched with other cars on the road.
3. Durability. In my low hp cars i can do 20-30 laps of autumn ring mini without a change of tires. Even in my 500-800hp drift cars i get 8-10 more laps than even comfort medium, or softs.
4. Smoke.. Lots and Lots and Lots of lovely smoke. Ty pd, for making it much more realistic looking.
5. Drift Angle. Comfort hards have been proven to provide a better drift angle.
6. Feel. Comfort hards feel more like the tires that are on my car irl.
7. Grip. I've also found in my experience, the grip levels of the tire are realistic, and its progression as the tire heats up and cools down throughout drifts is very predictable, and consistant.
8. Snap. Using Comfort hards makes for less chances for your car to unexpectedly catch grip mid drift because you had to adjust your angle, or throttle to stay next to your partner, or to avoid a wipeout/crash.

Personally, I don't care what people drift on, but, when you visit my room, I know they will be drifting on Comfort Hards, With Every Single Aid Restricted. I had a guy cry because i didn't leave Skid recovery force on.....in a drift room....

Might have been fun to read that!

I personally don't care what people drift on, as long as they don't crash me.
Yesterday I was on some drift server and there was a guy on a Veyron that :

1. sucked big time
2. crashed other people
3. drove wrong way
4. finally he thought it'd be fun to purposely ram people or make a barrier on the straight

Fortunately the leader of the server left and I earned total control so I quickly banned him.

If you read my post properly you would have seen that I would like to challenge someone who uses only sport to challenge me while we BOTH on Comfort Hards with 400 HP. Can you handle that?

Yeah. I started using comfort hards already....and there really fun. They are totally different still. Maybe I will see you in a drift lobby.

I've always used sports hards and can pretty much drift any track really well...
It's all personal preference...

my friend marc who drifts in real life uses toyo street tires for drifting. but the sport tires in the game handle much grippier than in real life. one thing that PD seems to have missed is that once the back breaks loose, the only way for it to re-gain grip is for the tires to stop spinning (by brakes or clutch).. in reality, sport tires and economy tires handle about the same once the traction is broken (provided the amount of power the car has is high enough, i.e. very low power cannot use grippier tires for drift.). i'm not sure about racing slicks though, seeing as they are very much different from street tires.

i am no expert so i may be wrong, but this is how it is as i understand it.

Imo;
comfort tyres=fun level up
Race tyres=adrenaline level up

Imo, just use comf hards... the tandeming skill will come, and with close tandeming, you will DEFinately get the adrenaline rushing.

For all the tournaments they use comfort hards so there would be fairer competitions between a high powered car and low powered car.
In real life i think you are limited to a few tires. I.e formula drift is falken and i think dunlop (not sure) so one tire wouldnt be better than another.

I use all of the tires of comfort range, usually i choose comfort hard if i want more angle and if i want to go bit faster i choose comfort soft. And then if i want a bit something between i choose mediums. or i just simply put lower hp cars with hard-mediums comforts and then higher hp cars with medium-soft comforts.

I find sport tires too grippy for my style of drifting, so i use comforts only.

IMO everyone uses tires that they feel best to drift with, and i have no proplems with ppl drifting with sports, as long as they don't mess around and crash to others.

Listen, you can use whatever tires you want. I have attended club4ag Drift Days and you basically you run what you can Afford!comfort level tires usually wear down as a slower rate than sport tires so they do have Benefits. As for comfort being pro level tires,Definitely not true. Usually beginners use Comfort level tires so they don't have to worry about breaking traction as much as controlling the Counter-Steer/Throttle aspect but once you learn the Basics save the comfort tires for Seasonal events. Way too many slow Drifters in cars with way more HP going at a snails pace.

You can use whatever tires you want. I think Falken sponsor Formula D and if they are letting the Drivers have free tires I know they are taking them! Tires are friggin expensive and going through 4 and 4 sets during a Day is no joke!

Agreed

Personally i like to use sport hards
It gives you versatility so you can drive fast and skilled gt5 drifters can make it go sideways when they want
AND you can do some SICK high speed drifts

Limiting yourself to Comfort Hards does not make you pro. I use Comfort Soft and i still get alot of angle, Comfort Hards feel too slow.

Honestly, for my team comfort hards became the tire simply because it didn't wear out as fast. Then when the tire wear patch came out it was became a big argument because the tires no longer wore out anymore.

Usually in my lobbies or lounge, I turn tire wear off anyways.

I use comfort hard, just do.

But professionals use any tires with alot of grip from what I read.

In real life yes. But If you want good tandems the only tire I like, and half the drifters i drift with use CH.

Online i have started to notice more people focusing on speed throughout a corner instead of angle, so a higher grip tire allows for more speed through a drift. But whenever i host a room i always set the tires to C.Soft. And when i get a request to set it to unrestricted i say "no"...

Well I do compeitions not drift by myself. So I use CH only cause you get more points for angle. No use to drifting with no angle then you just look like you are sliding out of control.

I agree with you spank. I prefer the comfort hards. More angle, more control. Even if your are using CH your speeds maybe slower than using any other tire but, if you are in a a tandem you still the difference between someone who is slow and someone who is fast! Then there are different drift styles and techniques. I would recommend CH to anyone who wants to drift simply cause it offers you the chance to learn how to fully control your car. When you have mastered these tires you can use which ever choose .... racing tires even LOL

Like to see some get an entry like this on any tires other than Comforts....

lower horsepower cars I use CH. Higher horsepower and higher RPMs I use SH. With the Lexus LFA can't use comfort tires and have to go with a sports hard. Kinda frustrates me sometimes when hosts won't allow for sport tires. If its an open drift who cares what tires are being used as long as people are drifting.

Most hosts want comforts because of the tandeming ability - and a lower likelihood of Sport tire users rear ending others. However, a room with good Sport drifters (like the Japanese one I was in the other night) had some good tandeming as well as the added speed I enjoy.

What I started doing is now I'm repurchasing all my Drift cars and leaving them stock for the most part for CH tires. As for rooms with Tandem drift, personally I skip most of them because in order to Drift Tandem, you need to learn how to drift alone,Then in a Group to learn your partners tendencies. Very few times I will meet someone who has True skills.

Comfort hard is way to go trust me I tried a ton of cars with all various tire setups with my drift garage and by far comfort hard is the best. It is tough to get used to at first so if your new I would say try sports hard and try to drift around one corner at a time and just drive normal threw the straights and as you progress to get better move to comfort hard and do the same thing. Once you have gotten every corner drifted no prob than try to start connecting them and drift the straights as well.

Why are comfort Hard's is the best?
