Complaining about free content

Some of us bought the game at release at full price and it was incomplete. It still is, though much better. I’m grateful they’re releasing “free” content, but I also feel I paid for it already in some sort of bizarre preorder.

Well, it's a bit nonsense complaining about game content upgrades even if it's 90% recycling of older games from the saga.

I think other things are more complaining time worth as the personalized lobbies bugs and issues, the need to be online to safe progress, grinding time needed for some overpriced cars, mediocrity of the ffb on wheels...
Non daily events in sport mode, good cars fitted in gr. X instead of making a new category ... And so on.

Hopefully this year PD start to consume more time fixing and polishing the game instead of adding more content to the base game.

Game wasn't worth 70 euros on launch though, right now I'd say GTSport is what it should have been on launch
Yeah for GT sport to be what it currently is now at launch, it would've got delayed for another year and a half :lol::lol:

We have to pay for PS+ to get it.

Except that has no bearing on any of GTS' DLC does it? You have to pay for PS+ to use any of Playstations online services, or to go online in any game (though there are exceptions, Fortnite being one), be it GTS or otherwise.

So no, you don't have to pay for any of GTS' DLC since it is free, ultimately you have to pay for PS Plus regardless of game and it's DLC content, be it paid or otherwise. It's been that way since day one on PS4, and was an option during the PS3 days as well. Ultimately it's your choice on whether to pay for PS Plus, Polyphony didn't make that decision, and it's the same story with Xbox live so...

I see it like this:

There is complaining about the free content that we get every month. I think this is what the original poster was aiming at. But then again, it’s each to our own, we’re all entitled to our opinions. Fair right? You don’t have to like the content we get, but it’s nice to appreciate that free content that we get.

There is giving feedback on the content and the updates we get which could help improve the game. For example, bugs need fixing and functions not working. Which is what we should do, as a community to help improve the game.

I think the original poster was aiming towards people not appreciating the free content we get. I agree that GTS wasn’t worth the £55 I payed for in release but it’s worth a release date price now with the content we currently have. Just my opinion. And at least they didn’t go FM5 direction, which didn’t have very many cars but still had a season pass.

No, you pay for PS+ to get access to online multiplayer.

If what you said were true, those without a PS+ subscription wouldn't be able to access any of the new content.

Well, I have thought all along that I had to have the subscription to do anything online. Oops!

Counterpoint is that they had no excuse releasing a half finished game with such little content at launch.
Counterpoint is that those who bought the game knew what was included and what wasn't. If they didnt bother looking that up on google that's not on the developer.

Three points about this topic:

1- Everyone has the right to voice their opinion on the content, whether they like it or dislike it.
2- Just because it's free doesn't mean I have to like it. Someone can gift me a box of Mon Cheri chocolates and, while I appreciate the thought, the fact that they were free doesn't change the fact that it's not a sweet I'm fond of and, therefore, I won't touch the box.
3- A corporation giving you a freebie is not the same as someone, personally, sending you a gift. In the latter situation, it's rude to criticize what you've received. I think there are people around here that view Polyphony's relationship with the community excessively close and personal, therefore they feel it's wrong to criticize what was 'kindly' given to them for free. Always remember that any corporation, no matter how well they seem to get along with their fans, always has it's eyes in the bottom line, otherwise they risk not existing. Pleasing the fans is, first and foremost, a means to to reach an end, and that end is not your personal happiness. So just give them feedback, say what you like and what you don't like, is a civil manner, regardless of whether it was free or not. In the end, Polyphony is here to do business with us and we should always remember that.

Well, I have thought all along that I had to have the subscription to do anything online. Oops!

Nope. Although on the other hand, there is the very valid question of what happens once the servers are shut off, as a huge chunk of the game is inaccessible when it doesn't sense a connection.

Counterpoint is that those who bought the game knew what was included and what wasn't. If they didnt bother looking that up on google that's not on the developer.

That's an oversimplification and assumption rolled into one. It also doesn't tend to the mixed messaging from around the game's release: there was the "burn it to the ground" ad which mocked car collecting (yet that seems to be a major focus on the post-launch content front), there was the "online is only 15% of the experience" comment, there was the "GT Sport will have more features than any previous GT game" comment, and there was the comment about there not being any microtransactions.

Counterpoint is that those who bought the game knew what was included and what wasn't. If they didnt bother looking that up on google that's not on the developer.
Which is why I waited a year later to get the game I been playing since Late November '18 and I'm having so much fun earning credits through GT League and buying the cars I like/want

The problem with this line of thinking of 'you should be glad that this content is free!' is that it breaks apart the minute you begin to look at the deeper numbers: the vast majority of the 'new' content added into GT Sport is content that should have been in the game at release, considering it was literally just 4K upscales of various tracks and cars from GT6. In fact - the Monza update was all rehashed content. Very little of what has been pushed out the door for post launch content is truly new to the series content. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say 65% of the content released post launch for GT Sport has been upscaled GT6 content, and it has only been recently that the trend has shifted towards new to the series content. And it's incredibly likely that if the backlash against the lack of content from the start wasn't so strong - they'd be selling this content, both new and old, as DLC packs, and had left the big GT League update as an expansion. At that point, should we really be celebrating if it's content that should have been in the game at the start, and was likely going to be sold as DLC anyway?

Counter that with Forza Horizon 4 and how it has dealt with returning vehicles from mainly Forza 4 and the first Horizon - most of it has been free cars added via Forzathon, and while some of these cars have been in the DLC packs and in the first expansion car roster (Something that could be problematic in the long run, but at the moment isn't that big of an issue) I'd say more then 50% of the post launch content has been new to the series, or at least, new to Horizon, vehicles, with the rest being free vehicles that either didn't make the jump from FM7 to FH4 originally, or was vehicles that still hadn't made the generational jump from FH1/FM4 to now.

Ultimately, yeah sure it's free content, but what matters is how it is balanced out with actually new content that is worthwhile. It's nice to have free content, but if it's stuff that should have been in the game at launch, and was present in most regards in the previous game, does it really matter? Especially when one considers that if there wasn't a backlash to how little GT Sport launched with content wise, it would have been sold as DLC? For the most part, the post launch content in GT Sport has been in the way of trying to upscale tracks and vehicles that were present in GT6, instead of the other way around like in Forza Horizon 4, which does it right in my mind.

As much as I like PD and many of us have deep affection for PD going back decades, I feel like these developers probably have a long term game plan they developed from before the release.

I suspect both PD and Turn10 have content they produced months and months back and are slowly dribbling it out as needed... they have war plan to maintain interest and perhaps a monetary stream into their game.

Think of it like this.. does it take one month to come up with 9 cars and a track?

Of course not, it takes longer. They would have the easter DLC planned out and they know exactly what mix of cars and tracks are coming down the line.

In the Forza world, six months of DLC is 42 cars. In a game with 700 cars that isnt much. But hey, its $45usd car pass to get it.

PD are much less mercenary or actually, completely not mercenary barring that sub $2 mil mtx thing.

They would already have a funeral plan for this that probably entails the game dowloading a final patch that puts online features into offline mode.

These projects cost upwards of $50 mil. They MUST have a war plan that they follow if the game is a smashing success or if it goes the way of GT6 and they know they cant support it, then they have a death certificate.

Ok, so you got this game during the nice price offensive for 29 €/$/£, or even 19.

And you are constantly showered with more free cars and updates. It’s not always your dream come true, but bitching about it, REALLY?

Just look at iracing: Wanna compete in this series? Need the car and the tracks, bro. It’s 12$ per car and just 15$ per track, by the way. Oh and the subscription, by the way, too.

Be grateful for once that we’re getting new stuff to try out every month! And one day the White Elephant may even come (anyone say Spa??)

I'm a bit confused.
Youre german. We germans like to complain. Why dont you.....oh wait, you already complained about people complaining. Nice job :P:lol:

If Sony had been smart GT6 would have been launched on PS4 rather than PS3. FM5 was a launch game for XB1 but suffered with much reduced content and generally being rushed to meet it’s release date. It was only until FM7 did they really get back upto speed.

PD where supporting GT6 for the first 2 years of PS4’s life. While concurrently developing GT Sport. With the, IMO, correct decision to start from scratch with PS4 quality cars/tracks, it meant content was light at launch. A little over a year on I’ve enjoyed the updates. It’s now a pretty beefy title and would have been great to launch in this state.

The likelihood is GT Sport will be the only GT on PS4. By the end of support we should have north of 400 cars and doubled the track roster. With all these assets carrying over to the next GT on PS5 we should get a very healthy 500+ cars and a plethora of tracks. Likewise, with the online mode now extremely solid, they can concentrate on refinements, with most development resources going toward the CaRPG elements we missed this time over.

As for DLC, I understand tastes differ, but I can’t point to a poor car pack yet. Some have heavily focused on much needed road cars. But equally, in the coming months, we could quite easily get another dozen or more race cars. The Group C and GT500 cars all arrived in packs of three. So if we get more race cars there’s a high chance they’ll come in a themed pack. With tracks I’m very pleased. I didn’t think PD had it in them to release so many, so promptly. Unsure what we’ll get this month, given the disruption of the Christmas break. But it seems pretty likely favourites such as Spa, Silverstone and Laguna are coming.

I have no idea what iracing is nor do I care. You're comparing a milk bar hamburger to wagyu steak.

Both are food.

Also I feel like Gran Turismo is a "loss leader" - its the premiere piece of software that is mandatory with this console.

I'm happy they are giving us a break on the price unlike the other mob. It's their business decision on however they want to price it.

Iracing is a small company's own thing I have no interested in learning about.

If I would have known it was going to drop to $29 I would have waited the month or two, there isn't enough content in the game for the original price I paid.

Also, comparing this to iRacing is absurd. BTW, the guy who owns iRacing has more money than PD so can't really call it a small company either.

This is probably true. We've all criticized PD for having a slow production pipeline in the past but you're absolutely right. They've practically hit their content deadline every single month without delay. Each deadline being a possible 10 to 12 months in the making to hit, yet each one hits right on time.

I can understand complaining if the content selection is genuinely bad or unnecessary or could've been something far more appealing... but like... almost all of it hasn't been that way. Personally I feel the most egregious content in that regard has really only been that '16 Clio duplicate and the BRZ*. The Tesla and several other cars may be put in Gr. X and don't have a lot of ways to be utilized (comparatively) with other content, but that's a result of poor game design - the cars themselves generally are genuinely very good.

*I don't know how significant a difference there is between the GT86 and BRZ in GTS, but it would seem there's at least a hundred better cars they could've picked from the GT6 premium catalog that would've at least diversified the car list a little more. Even with just picking from the Subaru brand one of the other WRX premiums probably would've been better.

That's been one of my biggest complaints... we have some amazing cars and we have a smattering of tracks.

So a few of these cars cost like $1.8 to $3.6 mil. - surely you would make me buy these cars if you introduced events both single player and offline that uses them?

The Zonda R is an ultimate track hero car. So why arent they putting it into stuff we can do? Besides custom races.

The game was very much complete when it launched. It didn’t have any sort of game-breaking issues when it launched and everything worked as it should. Sure, content was heavily cut from what we used to have, but that doesn’t make it incomplete... Even if it had only 3 tracks and 10 cars...

People complaining about the price of games astounds me. Go to a movie for two people and it's $50 easily, a $70 game has given me 3 to 4 hours a week of enjoyment for 52 weeks and counting. Jeeeeeepers.

It’s just that most games these days release with little content and are still priced at 79.99 just for the base game. Then some of those same games have the audacity to charge another 60 for a season pass or whatever.

The gaming industry is going down the toilet.
