I'm still running my P3 600, but I upped the ram to half a gig. I've also got the rare (and quite special) 512kb version of the chip. It still retails for around $200, and I bought mine two years ago when it wasn't much more than that. It's rock solid, and until I have a need for the extra processor speed, I'm sticking with what I've got.

RAM quantity and disk I/O are the important ones for just about anything these days. The speed of your hard drive is currently the slowest link, and running our of physical memory just SUCKS.

If I ever get to the point of using my computer to make a profit, I might replace it. But for now, I just make sure the asthetics are in line. Phat monitors with dual vid-card, nice keyboard and mouse, and a pimp sound. It's all about the interface, baby.

One hundred and six 900Mhz 64bit Processors (8mb of cache each)

Not that it actually functions this way, but that's 95.4 GHz of 64bit processing power. That gives you more power in a single box than anything ever created before. And the power of 64bit over 32bit is incredible.

It also has more than 512GB of RAM. I think the actual figure is 712GB. That's more RAM than both of my file servers at work have in disk space put together (but just barely).

No I don't actually own a 5 million dollar computer, but I have gotten to witness a few of its pretossors in action. They're the size of a regular refridgerator and about 20% of the case is just power management stuff. I think they have something like 16 individual 220 volt power supplies. That's not all for the computer though, it's mostly just for the cooling (:

hey Loud, you ever think about overclocking? that could push off an upgrade for a while. and as for it shortening the lifespan of the CPU, i have 3 cpu's that i currently o/c.

1. Pentium 133 o/c 166MHz
2. Celeron 300A o/c 450MHz
3. Pentium 3 800EB o/c 900MHz (need a better fan n heatsink)

you might want to give it a try. it's like a free upgrade :D i'd recommend you read up on it quite a bit before you fool around with it though. if you don't know wut your doing, you can *** **** up 😈

Overclocking isn't that big of a deal for me. The computer is still faster than I am, so what's the point? (:

P4 1.6
80 gig hd
512 mb ram
52x cd rom
24x10x40 cd-rw
geforce 2 400 with 64 meg ram and tv in/out

fancy smanchy joystick (dunno what kind, was a birthday prezzie)
5 speaker surround sound (2x230watt 4way rear, 2x300watt 4way front, 1 12 inch 500 watt subwoofer) some may call it overkill but i live games to be ****ing loud.

its a half decent pc for today. will upgrade to an athlon in a few months.

My Hewlett-Packard (the model was recently discontinued as HP stopped making those mini mini towers) is meant for getting the job done and little else (I'm almost exclusively a console gamer), and the specs will show that...

800 mhz Celeron processor
30 gigabyte hard drive
128 megabytes SD-RAM
HP CD-Writer (CD-Rewritable)
Pavilion M50 monitor (a mere 15 incher)

The mouse they provided doesn't even have a wheel! Woe is me! ;) I can't find HP mice in real-world stores, so I'll probably go for a Microsoft model this summer. Whoever said that HP sucks is overstating it a bit, but isn't far off. HP's gotta work on it.
