Off topic, but Lotus done well in todays F1 qualifying with Romain Grosjean getting 3rd on the grid:tup:. Just a shame that Kimi Raikkonen messed it up.👎 But for Grosjean to get a third in amongst 6 world champions, and other seasoned F1 drivers, must say how good the Lotus is this year.

I thought of Dowlin too, but what is it? It looks like an Alfa Romeo 33 or 75 until you look at the front grille. and when you do look at the front grille it looks like a Talbot Sunbeam.

Aye,was struggling myself.

I had to "view image info" them go sniffing through the uploaders photobucket albums. :sly:

The first two pictures made it look like he fixed the fender with the cardboard box -_-

I'm definitely in for next week as well on that note. Somehow can't get enough of racing lately...

I was about to post what the car was, but lost my internet for a bit :indiff:

Plus.... I couldn't help myself

Grrr, you got me thinking about cars from yesteryear now. In 1989 I worked at a second hand car centre, and had a company car. It was a 1981 BMW 323i E21. Polaris silver with dog leg gearbox and LSD. It was the dogs rollox. The wheels were the same as the pic, BBS X spokes, but the spokes were gold and the outer rims silver. I want it back.

I know what you mean! It must happen to every generation of petrol heads.

You remember cars that you have fond memories of, and think, as good as some cars are now, they still don't 'capture' that feel of a retro car :)

Like this....

or this...for me :)

This is going to sound slightly odd, but I got rid of my car about 3 years ago! Running costs/fuel/government you get the picture 👎:grumpy::irked:🤬

This was my last car (from new) photo from about 9 years ago  (the one I ended up scrapping - sad day I guess)

Vectra5.png

Its away to the great scrap yard in the sky :ouch:

Thats quite a 'hot' diesel by my reckoning? 2.4 20v?

At least my wife's car is in the game (which when it popped up I had to get one, even if it was only to max tune it  ) the tenacious Ford Ka!

Omnius, pure beaut of a Vectra, bro. Was it the V6? I'm seeing petrol exhaust tips, but I'm not seeing GSi wheels.... SRi 150??? Was that a 2.0 petrol? I have a 2.2 DTI SRi 130 Vectra estate and my exhaust tips are the two squares rather than the rounder ones showing in your shot. And I have the same wheels.

It was the 'facelift' '98 SRi, the 2.0 140, when Vauxhall had improved the spec somewhat of the original '96 Vectra SRi

They then facelifted the whole Vectra B model in 2000 with the squared off bumpers and introduced the 2.2 150 SRi

I noticed the black plastic bumper insert on the rear bumper after I had commented. Mine is the very last of the B before they started making the C which is the later facelift you're on about there, with all body-coloured bumpers and no inserts. Did yours have the chrome V-grill on the front or not? How did you find it to drive? I adore it. I throw it into corners on country roads and she just smiles back at me. Had to replace a broken spring in her a couple of years back for the test - couldn't get the OEM spring (or springS that should be as they only sold them in pairs...) so put a full Koni set in instead - hasn't seemed to upset the handling that much.

Thats what I mean't the C, mine was a B :dunce:

Had 2 lots of front coil springs snap on mine, add to the fact the actual VX dealer put the wrong springs on it the first time! It looked like a off-roader!!! Got it sorted in the end, but it took a phone call to the HQ in Luton

One thing for me was, it was a pig in the damp for understeer, then towards the end of its life, I started getting oversteer on roundabouts! Not good, and this was with new shocks and springs! The the costs started adding up - Air Con went, brake pipes, rear trailing arm bushes....then the dreaded rust bug around rear wing and arches....by this time (13 years) enough was enough!

never had a vectra but had a v6 calibra whitch did the same.turned out to be the rear trailing arm bushes so i replaced them with polybushes and uprated shocks and springs ,drove like on rails in the dry but was woefull in the wet .gave the car to my daughter and she killed it

My AC has been done the last two summers - keep meaning to leave her in to get charged again but never bothered my ass. I always needed droplinks each year for the test coz the roads round here are woeful and the car is that low and that hard. This year I didn't need them, but my ABS pump went - apparently its a fault with them and it's nigh on impossible to get a replacement part. And half the ones on the road at the minute are faulty as well....

Jamesy - if I can be so rude, and ask what age you are that you have a daughter old enough to drive round in a V6 Calibra with the price of insurance over here in Norn Iron.......!
