I think the ALMS car will actually look pretty good... as long as it has flared arches (rear especially).

2014 season sould be using the C7 Z06 body, because this year they are still using the C6.R, and by next year the C7 Z06 should be out.

Wow, it's like an SRT Viper, only 10000x better. It looks incredible... I never thought I'd want an American car so much. Simply love it.

I feel dumb now lol
Quite. The control arms are double wishbones. The spring has nothing to do with control arms. Instead of a coilover spring and damper as most double-wishbone suspensions have which resides inside the double wishbone control arms...

...the Corvette has a lateral leaf spring which spans across the car and mounts to the frame in the middle...

That's an example from a 70s model. Here's a newer one...

The spring is mounted rigid near the center, thus isolating either side of it to act independently with each wheel. As you can see, all the spring's mass is very low in the chassis. A coilover design has a higher center of gravity and coil springs aren't very light either, especially considering there's two of them.

I'd like to take to stab at explaining why GM has had so much trouble making the rear end of the Vette feel planted. I think the problem is the dampers, and it's caused by poor packaging. Because the rear dampers are mounted at such an extreme sideways angle and have no pushrod mechanism to redirect the load, the dampers simply aren't effective no matter how well they're tuned. It's like putting normal springs on a raked motorcycle fork - the springs won't spring, they'll just bend because of the lever force on them. I think because of that angle the damper is basically binding up more than it is damping and that makes for a sketchy ride at the limit.

Not necessarily poor packaging by itself so much as poor parts on top of that. Most of the time when Corvette guys switch to coilovers for track use (it's a very easy mod, because since the leaf isn't used for any role typically associated with leaf springs other than providing spring resistance, all of the required pieces are in place to swap to coils) and talk about how much more stable their car is at the back, it is constantly pointed out that when they swapped out the OEM leaf spring they also swapped out the crappy OEM shocks for much better ones.

How about Polo White with a red interior?

They've done that with every iteration of the car. I'm talking about colors that have been popular over time, outside of the basic schemes...

Or better yet, use my favorite color (ever) from the GM catalog:

It does come in dark green, though it's not exactly the same colour.

Really? I missed that I think, although I haven't had a chance to look at the website since its been slammed. I might have suddenly become slightly interested in the car.

I know this doesn't matter to alot of people but the rear quarter glass is structural but useless. I think they should have kept the tear drop rear window.

Lime Rock Green

It's a good color, and they seem to have more choices than what I originally remember, but it still isn't that many. Living in the "future," our color choices are terrible. Not a whole lot of imagination to anything.

Also surprising, the lack of a bronze or orange color option.

I agree 100%.
The back half of the car just ruins the whole thing for me. Shoulda stuck with the old style rear window, and round tail lights.

Now it just looks like a 599 and a new camaro had a love affair.
Front end doesn't look quite as nice as I had hoped, but it's light years ahead of the rear in terms of style.

Kinda disappointed with GM's styling lately. But oh well.

I love the rear glass. The constant 599 comparisons though, I understand the comparison. Both are front mid-engine 2 seaters, however as an artist, they are not that similar. The basic shapes don't like up. The distance between the wheels, cockpit, and rear do not match up with each car. And the shapes of the two are quite different. They aren't that similar at all.

The new Corvette still looks like a Corvette.

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that this is vastly superior in design and function to the old 10 year old out going model. I don't even want to look back, anymore. lol

I'm absolutely loving the front/side design. The rear is still growing on me, at first I absolutely hated it. For the entry level base model, the exterior looks very mean compared to the base model C6 which was too plain and anemic in my opinion. Cannot wait to see the C7 Z06.

I also love the look of the taillights at night when illuminated.

Just for comparison (599 GTO). They just aren't the same. The Corvette has a longer, flatter front end. The 599 is just rounder all around, with more curves, etc.

They are both sports cars, that can be bought in red, however.

Just skimming over some of that mega-photo post, 1 G in cornering, wow haha... and 450 HP Standard is awesome. Not that it really matters but I'm curious as to how good the mileage will be.
