As soon as his position is confirmed the army will go after him.

I read that he was heading for Ankara. That sounds like a reckless move if the army are controlling the airports.

He'll be arrested upon arrival if not worse.

He indeed is heading for Ankara as I hear.

I'm interested to know what they were firing at, maybe it was just open ground so show authority.

Rumour has it that it was a field full of goats.

Edit.

People in Ankara are going out on the streets.

The country was already at a critical point with his takeover of all the opposition.
The country is already at a critical point. ISIL have stepped up moves to push into Turkey; they've lost a lot of ground in Iraq and Syria, and we know that they will take advantage of any instability to spread their influence. They're wounded, but they are by no means beaten yet. Any instability brought about by a coup will only hand an opportunity to ISIL and could prolong the conflict by years.

The army issued a warning that those who oppose them will be shot.

Apparently he didn't get the message?
When Erdogan does it, he's a tyrant.

When the military do it, it's the guy's fault for not listening.

Haha thats gold. So Erdogan would be a better companion against IS?

Front doors of TRT television channel apparently.

Brian Williams talking to Chuck Todd is probably the least exciting coverage of a coup d'etat i've ever seen.

Yet on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, still no coverage. Guess we don't care too much.

Reports about fights between the intelligence services and the army in Ankara.

Several mosques are also calling for the people to demonstrate.

Did I say that?

No, I did not.

I simply pointed out that any coup will create a period of instability - and if the situation is not managed, it hands an opportunity to ISIL. Overthrowing Erdogan might be a popular outcome, but the world shouldn't lose sight of the actual threat in the region.

Which he was trading oil with supposedly.

Well.

I think **** is going down real fast. A lot of people are going onto the streets now. The airport in Istanbul is now full of protestors. The army is retreating.

Tanks are shooting in Ankara near the parliament.

Big group of people walking towards troops guarding bridge over Bosphorous, many shots fired, crowd hit the deck, many crawl away, some helped away appearing to be injured by the gun shots. Incredible scenes, this could get very serious, very quickly.

...Indeed. But I'm more worried about the leaders of the coup itself - maybe it's just me, but I can't see an altruistic side to a group of men who decide to abandon what little rule of law there is when things don't go the way they've liked.

Who says these guys have the best intentions for the people of Turkey? No guarantees there.

I hope so, though mostly general purpose 30mm ammunition is some form of HEI, which is high explosive incendiary. It would be extremely dangerous to fire that stuff in a city.

Also, according to my local news the explosion happened in the state news building.

From what i gather from most live images i see, people are out celebrating!

Indeed. Apparently most of them are cheering that the Turkish army is the greatest army.

There are also plenty of Erdy fans in the streets.

Civil war in the making.

I hope these coup's aren't going to spread to other countries.... like the UK

What would be the point in the UK? Get rid of the buffoons in power then when it all settles down the public vote in another walking talking baboons ass. There is no one worthy of running this country in charge of a party at the minute.
Nominations are welcome with a brief reason why.
May be Jonathon Ross he fits the buffoon mode but everything he gets involved in turns out golden.

More people shot I believe confronting troops blocking bridge over Bosphorous. This time live on Sky news.

Edit: yep, live pictures on Sky news now showing the crowd carrying away those who have been shot. This is the military shooting civilians on the streets. Crazy!

A coup held by Prince Charles to make himself King. :odd:
