And even if there is a river linking Ankara to the Mediterranean or the Black Sea, good luck getting a submarine up it.
No rivers, but submarines have been going through the Marmara and the Black Sea for almost a century now. In fact, there was one infamous British Sub that was tooken down by the Turkish Navy that's still there.

Some Arab and Iranian media say that Erdogan was warned by Russia about the upcoming coup. Like, Russian base in Latakia (Syria) has an intel center providing data about Turkish army and they knew the storm is coming.

If this is true, this isn't supposed to mean Erdogan is Russia's friend again. Pretty likely that RF basically chose the lesser of two evils. The Turkish PM later said that the faction who's behind the coup is responsible for downing the Russian bomber - no idea, how true is this, but who knew what would happen if they succeded...

You're talking about Istanbul, but we mean Ankara here.
Dude. Seriously. What's so hard to understand?

The whole point of why I wrote what I wrote about in relation to "Ankara being landlocked" is, that it seemed like people were expressing sentiments on Turkey not being able to bring their Military/supplies/goods etc etc to Ankara.

I UNDERSTAND you're not talking about Istanbul, but Istanbul needed to be brought up, because Turkey uses the Bosphor (which is in Istanbul) to get to the Black Sea, north of Ankara. Then, it's interstate to Ankara, and no, it's not 150km.

Also, I may be an American, but I have excellent geography.

True. We do have bad geography skills (I don't think I do).

Many Americans don't even understand the difference between England, the UK, and Great Britain.

That's the bit English use when all our sportsmen and women are crap and the good ones come from Scotland Wales or Ireland. "look the british are great. If they were awful he would be a useless Scottish Irish or Welsh tosser.
Only british when there good, Andy Murray perfect example.

On a more serious note I read somewhere Americans have the worst geography skills in the civilised world!!!
Is this true of the US and why if it is? Do they not teach geography in schools?

It is a pretty true stereotype. I don't think it's that we don't understand, it's that we don't care to understand. We all learn geography at some point (I know this in New York, because New York has the same curriculum state-wide, but I have no idea about the other 49 states...our education isn't anywhere near nationalized, and some states hardly even control their education and just leave it up to the schools.).

Wow it's mind boggling what students are being taught if schools are left to there own devices in some states.
I honestly thought the education system would be nationalised and then colleges after that with specialist subjects to be learnt. We learn something new everyday.

Not 100% sure on that state thing. Maybe true in Texas.

I think we're beginning to move towards nationalized education though.
