Course Maker in GT6?

I'll probably spend the first few hours like this:

And then I'll make a realistic countryside road.

Hopefully there'll be some landmarks in the area, such as hills, rivers, lakes...

Pretty much how I am going to react too. Also the autobahn replica and Pikes Peak replica ideas would be so :drool:.

I might just make a really, really long countryside road to cruise all of my favorite Corvette models. Hell, I plan on maybe creating my own Corvette club for cruising and racing. Oh, the possibilities.

I don't know, because we still have no idea how much control we have over it specifically other than a vague it'll be "fundamentally different" and we'll be able to “lay out our [custom] tracks freely”. What does this mean exactly? Some people are thinking this is going to be Minecraft with cars but I'm not getting excited until I have GT6 in my PS3 so I can see this feature with my own two eyes.

Well what we do know is that "fundamentally different" means its basically remade from the ground up so i'm not expecting it to be anything like gt5 course maker, will it be better? I don't know, I don't see any reason it wouldn't be.But I just want to know if we will have more freedom and customization.

If the roads are already modeled and you can only simply choose which ones to make a circuit with, that might be good. Some of the greatest circuits in the real world were made this way, like Reims, Spa, Pescara, Le Mans, Rouen... It's where the term "road racing" comes from after all.

Would like to make tracks like Reims and Pescara in particular, hopefully there will enough straight roads to make something like those. I don't expect it to be exact of course, but the main reason I want these in GT is because they offer something a bit different than the modern, safe, and complex circuits that GT5 was full of. We need some more tracks with long straights, fast and treacherous corners, and beautiful scenery to spice things up a bit. :sly:

So true!

And with Ronda we might be able to create a track which is similar to Cita di Aria!

Hmmm, a great feature. Was it mentioned that we could share the tracks online for others to download?

I don't think so, but this is something to be concerned about, because the way you had to share custom tracks in GT5 was a bit, um, crap really. They need some kind of place where people can upload their tracks and anyone can download it, not just people on your PSN friends list. A lot of times when I wanted to share a track with someone they couldn't even find the damn thing, and you could only upload one at a time. So if you wanted a share a bunch of tracks, it was a very tedious process.

Though we won't have this type of freedom, it would be amazing to see someone find a way to link together as many GT tracks as possible, into one massive course. Obviously this would be tough since most are circuits to begin with, but maybe cut them each into their sectors, then reassemble in an order that would make the ultimate course. The obvious hurdle would be accuracy and elevation, but it would be quite a feat!

I think getting these massive landscapes to work with should open the door to another feature that allows us to browse and share custom courses easily. We need an online feature that allows us to review and rate certain layouts that we've tried, so we can find the ones we want to enjoy. If we can sort them by length, rating, # of corners, difficulty, elevation change, type of surface, location, I think the online experience would drastically improve. I for one would be more likely to play online if we had such a feature.

I'm thinking a lot of space will be scenery, obviously.

But at any rate, hopefully we can manipulate the dimensions better. GT5's course creator was really a course generator. GT6's course creator should take it a step further. I expect a full course editor by GT7, though.

The beauty of this as opposed to Horizon, is the number of 'ordinary' cars to just drive around in.

Perhaps when he was talking about "10 Nurburgrings" he was referring to track length? Assuming he was referring to the Nordscheliefe, that would be a total track length of about 200km. Not quite Mille Miglia, it's a fair bit over 1/10th of it in fact, but to put that into perspective... The original circuit layout for the Targa Florio race, used from 1906-1911 (also used in 1931), was about 148km long.

Certainly a long enough track for most people.

10 Nurburgring GP Circuit lengths would be about 45km long in total, still pretty impressive. Of course I could be off my rocker and Kaz really did mean 10 Nurburgrings in square area.

The course creator file and sharing interface needs to be dramatically improved along the lines you suggested. Imagine how much potential will be left unfulfilled if we have to store and share courses the way we did in GT5 which was cumbersome at best and downright frustrating at times. As I believe someone mentioned earlier, a separate online course sharing function would be wonderful.

It would be cool if we could upload our tracks to an online track thing and vote on and download recreation tracks... Maybe the online races could even search the name of the most popular tracks?

Am I the only one that thinks what they meant by the 2500 square kilometers area is that out of that total area you can only choose a particular square/portion of it to actually make the track, but you have 2500 square kilometers total? Like a grid? That way the huge 2500 square area can contain mountains, desert, rivers, beach side, etc and you select which area you want to make your track in, not the full 2500 square kilometers. Comments?

That's what I was thinking, something like Sim City 4 where you have an entire world but you select different sections of it to make your city.

I'll make my own Special Stage Route 12.

I'll try to make it harder than SSR11 was in GT1.

It would seem odd if that was the case not to make it specifically clear. If you give anyone a massive map, one of the first half dozen things they'll think is "how long a track can I make?"

If what you're saying is true, it would be a massive PR cockup.

I could easily see PD restraining what you could do with a course editor, especially with all of the posts in this thread already. How many people would recreate a real world track and name it exactly that? They better get their lawyers to write up a pretty good disclaimer.

As far as PD is concerned, the tracks will be "Andalucia" or "Toscana" or "Eifel", and what the users chose to name their content is probably irrelevant to the legal situation.

If there's no Bump Map value (10 = bumpy road & 1 = dead flat) I won't be using it at all, as there are too many unrealistically smooth tracks in GT already. But if it does have a slider to increase the road surface bump map, then oh my days! Happy times! :D

That would be great 👍

We still don't know how the course maker will work, but if it lets us do whatever we want I will replicate a point to point race in my entire city.

Point is that you can create many tracks and change them just by driving to new location :) Of course you always be able to skip to starting line.

I agree. I think this is how it will be. If we can make epic long drives (30 miles +) that will be cool for some things but I want to be able to create a range of tracks in a variety of locations more.

I also can not see them allowing us to change things like elevation/contours in a way that will allow us to recreate real tracks.

Lets just patiently wait for someone to bring up Hot Wheels tracks in an interview with Kaz. He'll probably say "We're looking into giant rings and loop-de-loops."

First, I was not expecting this thread to escalate this quickly, and I can now see that point to points will become very popular. If you have this much space to work with, there will no doubt be a point to point feature.
