Still, they can't hold a candle to Jair Bolsonaro, who has explicitly threatened state leaders in Brazil with the withdrawal of emergency funds if they do not lift restrictions. The guy is a menace.
Yikes. And here he's made the front of Reddit today with this report.
“Enough fussing and whining. How much longer will the crying go on?” Bolsonaro told a crowd at an event. “How much longer will you stay at home and close everything? No one can stand it anymore. We regret the deaths, again, but we need a solution.”

He's not wrong, but opening everything up and forgoing safety measures just because we're tired of all of this is obviously not the answer. The virus doesn't care that you're tired of it. If anything, now is the time to be even more diligent in keeping yourself safe.

Bolsonaro is a disgusting person.

"We need a solution"...? Then why does his administration still have no plan as to how to deal with COVID? Bolsonaro has openly mocked measures that can minimise transmission risk, and has repeatedly denounced the risks posed by the virus - it is not a surprise that he has no plan, and yet somehow now he is frustrated that there isn't a plan?!

If anyone can be directly blamed for Brazil's COVID problems, it is Bolsonaro himself. And indeed, he is now threatening to penalise state governments who refuse to lift restrictions.

This is catastrophic mismanagement of an already dire situation, and it could (and to some extent already has in Manaus, for example) lead to a worst-case scenario where the government refuses to lock down even as the number of cases sky-rockets, and the health provisions in the country will collapse completely. That is a nightmare scenario, but Bolsonaro is not only risking it, he appears to be doing everything in his power to make it happen.

Why do you keep spelling "Donald Trump" "Bolsonaro"? Is this a code word or something?

So when is Brazil's next election so Bolsonaro goes full Trump?

2 people that I know for certain tested positive for covid this week just walked past my house unmasked. Unbelievable.

Instead of receiving the Moderna vaccine yesterday, I received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Other than really noticing the shot and shoulder soreness, I have not had any other side effects. Hopefully that continues to hold true.

I have been starting to think I prefer the J&J shot (not that I'll get a choice). The J&J shot had a better initial immune response, which is why it was originally tested as a single shot rather than needing a booster. I think that we'll all get boosters. So you get to consider yourself having "completed" your vaccination schedule sooner, don't have to return right away for the booster, and will just end up getting a booster later that covers variants.

The person that administered my shot let me know there might be a second round later on, but they did not know for sure. Fortunately if there is, either they will contact me about it or I will be able to follow up with them and pretty easily schedule the second round.

So our useless and desperate government started to extort employees to submit to mandatory testing, because otherwise employer can't allow them on the workplace and you get fired and all that jazz. Government allowed self-testing with selected non-invasive tests, but of course that cost money and most employers will not buy it and brain scrubs are "free" (paid from healthcare system).

My employer, as a prime example of cronyism and nepotism, doesn't allow self-testing (even if we buy tests individually) because one of company owners also owns doctor's office so he wants brain scrubs for all.

I'm following higher safety standards than most and now I have to submit to invasive test every week. I'm beyond mad.

And all of that could have been avoided if our incompetent government kept borders closed for tourism after hard lockdown in spring 2020.

Sorry for the rant.

Meanwhile, in Arizona...

Arizona Daily Independent
Rep. Chaplik, however, argued the mandates are an overreaction and society has managed to survive other viral outbreaks without masks.

For example, he cited HIV “that was going to wipe our global destruction of human bodies with AIDS.”
“We heard about that in the 80s,” Rep. Chaplik said. “Yet no masks were required.”

It seems the worst side effect I have had was a sore shoulder. I still have a touch of soreness in the shoulder, but it is not something I really notice or would complain about.

Yes they were, just not on your face....

Apparently you still had to make sure they covered your nose...

Just did my first covid test, that does not feel nice.

There was an outbreak at my work, now we have to do two quick tests before we can return to the site.

Don't be mad at me for posting this. Maybe it has already been posted. I don't know what to make of it. Make up your own mind and decide if you want to believe this guy or not.

This guy, like others in the UK, has been peddling nonsense about COVID since the start of the pandemic.

He says cancer deaths are plummeting and COVID deaths are being over counted... so what? Excess deaths are excess deaths, period. If someone who is dying with cancer also has COVID, their death is still counted - it doesn't matter whether it's counted as a cancer death or a COVID death, what matters is how many people are dying compared to what is normal for this time of year.

These people are great at asking questions and casting doubt, but when it comes to actually explaining what is going on, they have nothing useful to say.

Funny, my work just sends out an email saying one or multiple people tested positive and that their work area has been sanitized while they quarantine. No other actions. Hell someone in my department supposedly tested positive and I heard it through the grapevine, no announcements were made.

They're running an hour behind but my first dose is coursing through me. Just waiting the 15 minutes before I'm no longer held against my will.

Let us know if you turn into a zombie and/or if your wife gets mad at you for something you did.

The observation was just literally sitting in a room on my phone. No different than what I did on the train.

If I posted each time that happened, that's all I'd ever post about.

One of those is in a semi-controlled environment under the care of people that can take care of you should you have a reaction. The train not so much.

Not a zombie yet but I am starting to have an odd craving.

Might be unrelated but 4 hours post and out of nowhere, mid-bite of supper (not brains) I got super nauseous.

Calling it a slightly early night and I have a containment receptacle by the bed should I need it. :ill:
