I think that the NTSC version of GT4 had HD output if you connected it to the HDTV with a composite cable (the one with 5 plugs).

Disclaimer: Do NOT quote me on this as I may absolutely incorrect.

You are correct. GT4 is compatible with the composite cables at a maximum of 1080i resolution. I have lived the dream and it is definitely worth the $15 for the composite cables.
