This thread is kinda getting out of hand with all the arguing.
Remember what they say: "Having an argument on the internet is like the special olympics, even if you win, you're still retarded."
*Hides under chair to protect from getting flamed :S*

Two words, (deleted)(sorry!)

Sorry for the suggestion of strong language. But as GT5 has taught me, that is better than '**** ***'

I have a couple of cards on PSN accounts, since they are always maxed out though am more bothered that somebody may have/has my PSN login details for my main account. Have been playing GTA4 on that since release date, nearly on rank 10 and would be pissed if I had to start that again, also months of hard work on GT5 would be down the pan. I think they could at least give users access to login to the PSN website and change our details if required.

You have a couple of credit cards maxed out, but you were worried someone may mess with your GTA game???

WOW :scared:

This just earned the member in question a three day temp ban.

I strongly suggest that every member posting in this thread takes that on-board should they consider conduct of a similar nature.

We do not care how strongly feelings are running on this matter, you do not address each other or anyone in this manner.

That is not a suggestion, its an instruction.

Okay, if our passwords have leaked out, a good idea is to change passwords for all accounts that had the same password as the PSN account. I will try to use my millitary intelligence to find out ore about this.

I just heard the news and promptly changed all of my online passwords. Now all I can do is wait and see what happens on my credit card. Here's to hoping that whomever did this doesn't use our information in a nefarious way.

An anonymous source close to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today told PSU that the company will not offer any form of compensation to PlayStation Plus subscribers for the recent PlayStation Network downtime.

PSU posted this in their news section a while ago. It is not, however, an official announcement from Sony.

If they succed to dump and encrypt the passwords, you will see information beeing posted on the various "hacker" forums. This is nothing new, its always the same - King Wille Preator 2.

How did you change your password? Are you able to connect on the psn? I was under the assumption that the psn would not recognize a new password unless you could connect to it. Maybe I'm wrong.

Sony would never come out with this statement if the ones who hacked psn didnt get peoples user information.
Well, we can never be sure when it comes to Sony. The question is how they did come over that information? Wonder which type of attack they used, im not suprised if they used sql injection :)

This is an absolute disgrace by Sony...

Surely there are laws governing the storage of personal information on an accessible network that mean it must be suitably protected/encrypted and that if a breach of that information is suspected then the users must be notified immediately - how come it takes Sony 7 days to let us know, surely they did not just learn that our data had been compromised?

I really am truly disgusted by this clear and blatant incompetence in handling personal information. This is a PR disaster for Sony.

Because it isn't always clear what has happened when a system is compromised. They likely notified everyone when they realized the extent of what had happened.

 wut? Military intelligence?

Is it possible to change my password if the PSN and the site are down? Would changing this even matter now?

I'm assuming that this is all redundant now that the network is down.

Lets say, i have one hand in every cookie jar, enough said. I still think Sony wasnt honest with us regarding this problem. They must have figured out that the servers have been under attack for weeks, maybe months, that explain the server issues lately. Second, what stops the "hackers" from doing malicious attacks after the server has been fixed?

I also got a feeling that some people on this forum knew about this attack way before we even thaught about it.

Yeah I'm wondering this too. I guess we could change our password on the ps3 but without being able to connect to the psn and having the network recognize the new password, not sure how much good it would do until the network is back up.

You can be pretty sure that Sony never would give out more information than absolutely necessary. And i think that if Sony wasnt absolutely sure that at least some user information was leaked, they wouldnt come out this way with this statement.

So you spend your time on a video game forum?

And attacked for months?

I think you might be a touch paranoid. Just saying.

Its not only that, the issiue is also that the servers has been under attack for god know how long. Maybe thats why, as i said before the servers was laggy, and overall bad performance. Isnt it strange that they didnt see anything before? How do they analyse server performance on Sony? I knew it was something strange about the servers, i just didnt knew what the reason was.

People need to chill a bit. It's not the end of the world and I am sure you will all eat tonight and have a nice warm place to sleep. Take a reality check please

Anyway,
I can't remember what password I used on PSN, so I too have changed all my NON PSN passwords just in case they were the same. The important ones anyway; Ebay paypal email etc etc.

Do that and you'll have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT

More importantly though, when can we get back for some shuffle racing? My thumbs are starting to sieze

Sorry for the ambiguity -- I changed everything but my PSN information.

This is imporant really, because if people dont think about security, this things happen. You will be amazed how ignorant people are about security. Information is money in our times. Time is also money, if some fun person tries to log in with our details and mess up.

EDIT... I don't want to double post so:

New video from Anon.
Anonymous: Message To All PSN Users 4-23-11
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqO4aOMzv8E#

Woah, my that video spread quite fast...

Anywho, people need to chill. They also need to think a little and use their brains. Firstly, PSN DID NOT go down due to Anonymous this time, I do not know what people are thinking. Secondly, for those people, this war means alot, even if it contains illegal matters. They are fighting for our civil rights, as they have with many other of their battles with big corporations.

Servers don't slow down because people try to hack them. They slow down because of more traffic than they are build to handle.

"Anon" were ddosing the servers some weeks ago, and that slowed them down for some hours, but that has nothing to do with this. Ddosing is something else. They stopped the ddos after a short while when they realized they where hurting the customers and not Sony them selfes.

But, this was discovered two months ago:

http://www.tech-mania.com/2011/psn-hacked-cfw-playstation-3-reveal-credit-card-info/

For two months all the hackers in the world have known that Sony made the net codes in a way that makes them as easy to hack as an atari if you first manage to get in, and that they keep a lot of sensitive information like credit card numbers and such. And i guess someone found a way to get in there finally.

Waiting 1 week to tell us that our information may have been stolen?

Thanks, Sony:tdown:
Maybe OT, but the Japanese govermnent also stated that no radiation had leaked out in Fujikawa power plant. Well, what do you think? Japanese organisation culture is different from ours indeed.

It wouldn't do any good to change your PSN password now, as if the hackers actually acquired you're password, it's already taken.

The best thing to do is change the password to any sites or devices that had the same password as your PSN account, or are based on personal info like your birthday address etc....

I changed a couple of my passwords, and am checking my online banking every couple of hours, but other than that there is nothing else you can do but use some common sense about emails and letters you receive in the next few weeks....
