My connection is perfection.

Well, back then anyway. Is it back to showing maintenance again? Because if its so then your connection just had a bit of downtime for no apparent reason.

I really hope they updrade the software/hardware so we can play gt5 more smothly, i dont care how they will do it, and how much it wil cost for them. I paid 280 dollars for my ps3 slim, and i cant play online, i want some money back, because it is said you are able to play online.

The worst part is, im serious.

Hey, can we change our passwords even if we can't log into the psn? Or do we have to wait another week until we can do so? Also - after reading the new info, all of you out there that have a cc linked, do what I am doing - checking the account every single day.

As a precaution, I have cancelled the card I used to purchase Worms 2. I do not recall saving my card data on my profile, but I'm sure it has been stored elsewhere in the electronic wilderness of PSN.

Scaff mentioned removing credit card details. Anyone know how.

Also, is it too late anyway, do they already have my details?

What a cockup.

PSN Has recently mentioned they are looking into whether personal info might have been compromised.

Remember that doesn't confirm anything was compromised (as it's always POSSIBLE) and the best explanation I have heard makes it seem unlikely any was.

What happened was people with CFW PS3s are always hurting to get online as Sony prevents anything but the latest firwmare from connecting to PSN.

Someone found a CFW that makes your PS3 into essentially a dev console. Being a dev console means if you route through a certain proxy, you are now inside Sony's private network which is limited to Devs and Sony access.

This let the CFW people online again...

Shortly after, someone realized that CC info was not verified with this firwmare. The reason being you are on a Dev machine connecting from inside Sony's private network, you are automatically trusted to make purchases because it's assuming you are just testing and not really buying in the normal sense.

This is obviously horrendously stupid security.

So Sony got hit for lots of downloads that weren't backed by real CC's.

Sony finally had to shut down PSN because they put all their fish (including dev environment) into one bucket - another stupid setup.

They are working to rebuild their security and bring PSN back up, however it's taking a while and I feel they are throwing the personal info out there as a cover for both the time it takes to fix it and it make people forgive them a little ("well it's ok it's down as long as they are protecting my info!").

Also this is the first time Sony has openly mentioned "hackers" in such a way and I think they are using it also as a way to build hatred towards the hacker community (which many people don't realize encompasses both straight up thieves as well as good hombrew people and all in betwee just like they don't realize "muslim" includes good people along with terrorists).

Hackers should be put to good use as mine sweepers or live target practice for our brave soldiers. Bunch of cowardly virgins, they're nothing but oxygen thieves who have nothing to offer the world. A complete waste of skin.

No. :( Have to wait until they restore login access.

I figured as much. I'm checking my account online every single day. I barely use my cc so any purchases at all really will alert me and my bank. Friggin hackers.

I smell a class action lawsuit....IF they knew about a compromise between 4/17 and 4/19 they should have said something back then for legal reasons. I can only imagine how this will infuriate many customers....regardless if any info gets stolen or not, something should have been said earlier if they actually knew about this last week.

This sounds really bad :( I really hope SONY learn from this!

Even though i really miss psn, I hope sony take their time and fix the security problems once and for all..

EDIT: And to be honest, everyone who visit this page regulary probably needs a little break from PSN :sly: (including me) :D

Absolutely appalling, seriously what is with Sony and security, so I guess people are now going to have to sit and wait till they see their credit card getting emptied seeing as no one can get on to remove their passwords and numbers.

BBC News
The blog posting lists the personal information that Sony believes has been taken.

* Name
* Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
* Country
* E-mail address
* Date of birth
* PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login
* Handle/PSN online ID

Mr Caplin added: "It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained".
Credit cards

Sony admitted that credit card information, used to purchase games, films and music, may also have been stolen.

"While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility," Mr Caplin said.
"If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained."

I dont think i would have said anything unless I was sure information was comprimised and to what exent and investigated how.

Maybe a stupid question, but if you cleared out through Sony losing your personal data, does this mean that they are liable under the Data Protection Act 1998? I they are forced to take measures to refund these costs due to a failure on their part, would this not then spell the end for Sony and spark a huge financial crisis for everyone involved with Sony?

in a worst case scenario, maybe.

Well, this kind of thing HAS happened to banks before. It seems people are blowing this out of proportion... Best thing to do is probaly change your password and maybe get a new credit card issued. BTW, if you find and report fraud on your credit card bill as soon as you receive it then you only have to pay $50 maximum, regardless of whether the fraud is $1 or $1,000.

What a mess.

Much as I hate to over-react, even if there is only a potential that partial card details have been compromised I am not taking chances. I think to be safe I will cancel them (unless the issuers say different). Stupidly I can't for the life of me remember which I used so I will have to cancel them all.

Still, stops the mrs caning my amex, for a few days at least. :D

You're under the assumption that the hackers have access to them with PSN down.

People need to quit overreacting. Seriously.

This is probably the only post in this whole thread that comes close to the truth.

I'm sure Sony loves everyone blaming all this on hackers.

Uh oh. Hopefully they didn't empty anyones credit card. (I don't have a card # in my account)

And how does that take away from the fact that Sony still (up until now) hasn't learned anything from the previous security breaches? You're damn right I'm going to overreact. Whether or not I had CC information stored on PSN is irrelevant at this point. Fact of the matter is it took all of this for them to rebuild, and hopefully learn from an already (possibly) done deal? I'm sure as hell not supporting any paid services for PSN now.

That's for damn sure.

This is a good example where system security have failed totaly. The question is what will happen next, and how long it will take to fix this problem, and if they will updrade the server performances as well? If i were Sony, i would try fo fix as much as possible, while the servers are down.

Well, well it all about karma, once again we people have to suffer due to corporate greed. If hackers did this, Sony must have seen this coming. This is a war that never can be wone, by either one of us. Its like the israel/palestina situation.

Discuss this in a calm and reasonable manner or lose the ability to discuss it at all.

This is not the first time the staff have had to mention this, but it may be the last.

Thing is, these hackers obviously aren't dumb, if they did have access to our info they probably had it downloaded before Sony even knew they existed.

All I have to say, is thankfully I don't have a CC on my PSN account, which is really outdated.:lol:

the same hackers have threatened to hack the newzealand government website

http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/4930058/Hackers-threaten-Parliaments-website

This wasn't anon's doing.

Anyway, it kinda sucks my details may be compromised. I remember when Gawker network got hacked it took them 3 days to download just the emails and passwords for not even all the users (they stopped at 1.3m), so it will take weeks and weeks for everyone's data to be compromised so lets hope Sony caught it early.

It's sad, I never used my credit card so I'm not at risk, so now I kinda feel sorry for Sony.

So...hows the weather?
J/K XD

But seriously, whoever hacked PSN has access to peoples credit card?

This is an absolute disgrace by Sony...

Surely there are laws governing the storage of personal information on an accessible network that mean it must be suitably protected/encrypted and that if a breach of that information is suspected then the users must be notified immediately - how come it takes Sony 7 days to let us know, surely they did not just learn that our data had been compromised?

I really am truly disgusted by this clear and blatant incompetence in handling personal information. This is a PR disaster for Sony.
