Amazing really how people hate nerds but their lives revolve around things they've created.

Taking down the PSN to make a pseudo-political point... quite a feat of creation indeed. đź‘Ť

You could rephrase your quote as:

Amazing really how nerds hate 'big greedy corporations' but their lives revolve around things they've created.

..and it would also be true.

I hope they find these 'hackers' and make an example out of them.

Hackers always claim they're some kind of rebel vigilant heroes for the people, doing Robin-Hoodesque things for the greater good, but I feel they're just a bunch of spotty spoilt brats with too much time doing nerdy, yet illegal things in their mom's basement.

They can go play in traffic for all I'm concerned. That Geohot loser can go first.

Dear Sir,
please get some education and manner up.
Gather informations on this topic and refrain from posting "BS".

PS: You gotta wait for 1-6 days more^^

The message is good news:

A real bad news sent Sony Playstation talking to an independent site from the site USA.Die allegedly brought in a direct conversation learned that the PSN at the earliest as of Tuesday evening, so tomorrow, again available, it also last until next weekend can be accessed through the PS3 on the PlayStation Network is back. In terms of numbers are the following one to six Tage.Die statements from Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media by Sony Computer Entertainment America, suggest that the downtime wird.Laut stop probably even longer than a day Patrick Seybold has the PSN to be rebuilt. Seybold also talks of "rebuilding the system," the "further consolidation of network infrastructure," and "the fitting of additional security measures for the system." According to him they were working around the clock because the PSN as soon as possible and running again.

But what if? All of our accounts have been wiped? That would mean that we would have to create new accounts and everything that you have done in GT5 (or any other game) up to this point would not exist in the eyes of the PSN. That would be a real bummer. Remember that your games and their saves are directly tied to your user account.

I still can't believe that Sony let some CFW smacktards hack their admin dev accounts.

Here are some news, that my German friend found, but dont know where...
its in german language, so for those wich dont know german just put it in google translator.....

Can I ask, are sony putting up PSN, translated it says yes. Can you tell me if it is

And the best part is, it isn't the hackers, it is the developer stuff.

Please, read people.

Sort of. If we are to believe these stories then the loophole allowed hackers (and/or pirates, but we'll lump them together just for fun ;)) to get in to the dev network and pirate PSN content and un-ban (and presumably access to ban as well) accounts.

I'm still completely meh over the whole thing. Loopholes will always be found, if what we're reading is true, then Sony had no choice to take it down, so I really couldn't care less. It happens.

Though I do want to do some MW2 killing, plenty of other things to do on the PS3 without PSN.

It's saying that PSN could come back online as soon as today evening, but it might take until the weekend before we can access it.

Like the article on IGN says, the fact that Sony hasn't commented on whether credit card info has been compromised is startling. This is the number 1 worrying thing for PS3 customers. Thankfully I never put my card details in there because there was no option to delete it afterwards.

I don't have any sympathy for Sony themselves though. The PS3 is a very fragile system that doesn't last more than a year if you're unlucky and Sony used to be known for durable quality products.

Before any fanboys get on my back, let me say that criticizing Sony doesn't automatically make me a hacker or a supporter of hacking.

Here's what I heard.... This morning I read an article on the guardian via google about that hackers had kept the servers down for another day and that playstation had lost some details about people and that they had to rebuild the system and THEN I come on here and you say that it was something else..... CONFUSED

More news from my German friend....

Zitat:
“The only change the consumer may see is to the way we log in to PSN.”
Zitat:
"The main thing Sony will be doing now is taking the original server code and they will be rebuilding it using new login keys for their admin side" " We will probably take the chance to change the developers root key that was recently leaked, which tellls the PSN that a particular piece of software is licensed and allowed to use the PlayStation Network."
Zitat:
"This could mean all previous software will require a patch when it comes back online" "But inconvenience like that will be secondary to the loss of revenue via piracy and loss of security if they don't change it."
Zitat:
"Automated logins may be disabled, which is what a lot of the Distributed Denial of Service attack programs use to strain the servers."

It's a good thing that nothing has come out in the past week or two that had a huge online following wanting to play, as it may be another 2-5 days more before it comes back online (at least that is what I have read elsewhere).

darren200cook, check the post just above your google translation, it is pretty much a word for word translation :) No indication as to the timeline til it is back up.

I bet that's exactly why they decided to do it when they did.

Even though this is off-topic, just wanted to state that ^ is all a matter of opinion. As I have my PS3 which I got a month after release, and it is still working just fine for me. I know several with the old huge, tower ps3's that are functional. I've never owned/used a slim one for extended time but 4.5 years with the original seems pretty durable to me. & my old roommate has had a slim one for 2 years - doing just fine.

Back on topic -
In regards to this issue that is addressed, some time-frame is better than no clue. I will be excited to tandem online again on GT5 but I am in no rush either. Take the time to do it right the first time so you don't have to continually go back and change things later.

Its perfectly possible to remove card details once they have been added, I've done so a number of times.

I think that's more than a slight exaggeration, given that my own launch day PS3 lasted far more than a year and its replacement has been working fine for more than two.

Yes the PS3 (and the 360) both have had issues, but to state they don't last a year is borderline flame-bait, something this thread doesn't need.

No one said it did, but that you feel you need to add this comment speak volumes itself.

You two 'points' were a mixture of downright wrong and highly misleading, and given the AUP states....

AUP

...I would suggest a more cautious approach in future.

Well one thing I can say is that 13 months from the time of purchase and I can no longer watch BD movies on my slim.

BD games all read fine, BD movies which I bought it for mainly just make a tick tick clunk sound and then eject sound but don't eject. If I spend literally 40 minutes ejecting, re-inserting repeatedly it will work sometimes. I'm pissed off about it. Anyway.. it's offtopic but I do see why people say stuff like that. I treat my electronics exceedingly well too.

No downloading Netflix now either though so that kind of ties it into this topic... No movies at all for me on PS3- just cable HD DVR. Paid $300 for my PS3 Blu-Ray player to hook up to my home theater and now my Netflix subscription is precisely worthless to me because of this PSN outage. I have to buy a stand-alone BD player now..

Just want to point out netflix still works fine without PSN, even though it suggests you "must be signed in" to use it. Simply attempt to sign in to PSN and it will load the screen where you can select what you want to watch. Then you can just watch those programs and use the netflix app normally.

This is at least how it works for me. Good to know netflix is lying to us (or Sony is, not sure which). But we kinda figured that from the way they treat PR for this outage :)

EDIT: it's possible my netflix app is glitching and that's why I can use it, but hey it's worth a try.

Agree - have been using Netflix just fine over the past few days, including this morning. Just click okay through all the "you must be signed in..." errors and it will work.
