Thing is, we know they're trying to fix the problem, we're not stupid! How about they actualy tell us the cause and a genuine expected time rather than just leading us all on and wondering when it could possibly be?

Because they open themselves up to a whole new can of worms if they make a statement with a due date and THEN don't reach it.

its a basic rule of business - don't issue yourself a deadline unless you are SURE you can reach it

Can't give a date if you dont know it.

Hope my credit card details are safe. I no longer feel secure on this network.

If they are totally rebuilding it. It must have had some serious security breech.

It seems almost cynical that MS are making Xbox Live free for our extended weekend...

I mean as of now.

Oh about 5 days total then.

I see what you mean. What are you thinking of doing if its not back on tomorrow night? Just curious.

Been reading rumours around the net.
Some are speculating Portal being responsible allowing PC and PS3 to play each other.

Ironic that a game involving finding access to secret areas via portals could be to blame.

I'm still worried about credit card details TBH. Sony's silence in all this just doesn't fill me with confidence.

did the network go down last Wednesday (i.e. 4/20) - anyone think that is coincidental?

eta - not implying/promoting anything or trying to get a laugh. just still bummed about the network being down.

Not sure mate. Must have been close to that time. I haven't been online in awhile.

Why the coincidence? What respect?

To be safe, I'd say google the significance. Not the birthday but the other thing (unsure of if that date is treated the same way in the UK).

Just seems that pranks/jokes/other crap sometimes gets pulled on this date.

420 day? Now that is the best theory yet

I ran a series race from 10:00PM to 11:45PM EDT last Wednesday (4/20) which included GTP members in eastern U.S., western U.S., and Canada. The problem didn't start occurring until after that. So unless it happened in different places at different times, the starting time was no earlier than 4/21.

this is what I was referring to. Carries some significance here in the States, didn't know it that was going to be taboo on the forum.

Wow, that date doesn't mean anything here.

Hope it is those guys. At least if they had my bank details they would have forgotten them by now.

This has me very worried. Seen other sites in which the article is written to indicate that Sony does not know if anything was stolen (that however it not quoted). As far as I am concerned that would raise all kinds of red flags.

Maybe Sony took the site down to support Kate and Willie(the English royals, not the parents from Alf)

I hope it comes on soon. I miss my Bobs. I'll never thrash all 6 online for days again. Maybe Sony have been running a massive Bspec enduro. If my 6 come back with 20mil each it will almost be worth it.

Please hurry Sony, I'm going a little silly.

i read somewhere on ps3tribe.it a post from eu playstation which said that for europe and us they think psn will be ok on 27/ 28 april.. maybe for japan tomorrow. Don't know if it's true or not, just reporting it here.

Stoners have better memories than you think they do. ;) Not to mention they don't just think outside the box, they draw on the outside of the box too with all your credit card details. :P

Hey everyone. Here's the real reason PSN's down (if you're invested enough I guess):
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/gx6o4/im_a_moderator_over_at_psxscenecom_the_real/

So it's not because of hacker attacks as we assumed. But continuous hacker/modder exploitation which Playstation had semi-control of but simply fumbled the ball on defense and decided to shut everything down Madagascar style only to re-build the entire network infrastructure. Pretty impressive and epic story as it seems at the moment in my view. We really can't blame anyone but a few of the network heads at Sony deciding to release the new dev console converter firmware.

btw if anyone here's a Redditor give me a shout, I use the same name.

Anyone else noticed that you now get 'Playstation Network is currently undergoing maintenance' when you attempt to sign in.

It's been that way for me since last Wednesday.

I saw that the Amazon Steam-Cloud was hacked prior to the PSN outage, so, my guess is that Sony is overhauling their save-cloud before the "worst" happens as well as a general "network" overhaul....

If this is true then I guess props go to Sony for fixing before it got out of hand and peoples' cc info was stolen - that is if I understood the article right. Then like you said the firmware shouldn't have been released in the first place. Again, that is if I understood everything.

What you're doing is essentially crying over spilt milk. Whatever the problem with PSN is, it's obviously serious. And it's quit clear that Sony are doing everything in their power to fix it as soon as humanly possible, though it's fairly obvious some of you seem to think they're just sitting around laughing at you. What isn't helping the situation is the way everyone is bitching and moaning about it, issuing ultimatums and threatening to defect to another console platform if Sony don't magically fix the problem. Especially since they don't come here (and if they did, you'd all be pointing out the way the time would be better spent finding a solution). You demand answers but offer no solutions, so what you're effectively doing is moaning for the sake of moaning. PSN is down. It's a serious problem. They're dealing with it. The last thing they need is a bunch of internet warriors declaring jihad. If you can't be a problem, be a part of the solution. And if you want something else to do, go and read a good book.

Amen brother 👍

... and to think, they are also bitching and moaning about something that is FREE 💡. Unlike another gaming console which charges you to play. Then you would have a legitimate reason to bitch and moan.

Deal with it,let Sony work on a solution.

Honestly, these people complaining don't remember the old days of network play. Before Steam even, where you had to sift through server lists to find populated ones, then make sure the admins weren't tools, and so on. And even with Steam, the first couple of years of that were a nightmare.

Given how long PSN has been around, it really hasn't had much issue with down time for a free service. And then seeing grown mean act like toddlers that had their binky taken away, or even wanting to physically hurt people - pretty damn hilarious, the man children these days.
